Small Joyful Things
Buying, selling, and learning about history through antique and vintage objects
I love market day :) I’m at the .assembly today from 10-4!
I’m going to call this one the Frozen collection ^_^ this includes all types of glass, like milk glass opaline, opalescent, Victorian, mid century, and even modern cased white glass ^_^ just a sample of the treasures I have for sale.
Sometimes I find things that I have to heavily debate keeping or selling.
yesterday on this quite extraordinary English piece. Although glass is my thing, I do know some stuff about ceramics, and I immediately recognized this as early 19th century bisque porcelain.
I decided to pass on it, because of the repair to the base, but I expect someone else will see it and pick it up ^_^
Rise n shine, kids - it’s market day! Get to the on Main st for the .assembly! I will be there and obviously I will have glass. Doors open at 10.30am!
This is now the record holder for the oldest item I’ve ever found - a Bristol Green vase from 1810! They’re hard to identify - you need to be able to recognize their very particular color - but I knew it as soon as I saw it, that it was something special.
Yesterday it sold to a local antique store for $150.
It is such a good feeling to be proven right.
I don’t always buy early Robert Held pieces, but when I do… :D
Today I’m posting glass on Etsy while dancing around my storage unit and listening to music on the biggest headphones I own, and somehow this is the most purely happy thing I’ve done in at least a week ^_^
I have always been fond of Altaglass and their Gladioli vase, and this is one of them I have on offer right now. It has its original sticker! In person, it looks like caramel, and I think it’d fit right into a retro kitchen.

The life of a glass nerd - spending all your time looking through glass reference databases instead of scrolling Facebook :P
Seriously though, this is really what it takes to be an antiques dealer - hours of research, learning, and building a visual memory bank of your chosen niche. You can’t sell what you don’t know - you can’t recognize what’s going to sell if you don’t know what it is!
And sometimes knowing where to look to get an ID, or knowing who to ask if you don’t know, is just as important.
So go forth and learn, my pretties :D
While moving some glass around today, I managed to drop this nice fruit stand onto a concrete floor. In true EAPG form… it bounced, rolled, and didn’t even get a scratch.
They do not make glass like this anymore.
Not normally into knives but I needed a chef’s knife and I could not resist paying 50 cents for this Finnish knife designed by Tapio Wirkkala!
Getting a photo of this 19 inch tall Isle of Wight Studio Glass “Tortoiseshell” bottle is incredibly hard! It’s from the 1980s, designed and crafted by Michael Harris after his departure from Mdina Glass.
Selling for CAD $100 + shipping, and yes I will ship this in spite of the size!
Empoli bottles aren’t just tall and elegant - they’re also rough and brutalist. This amberina bottle is stamped “Made in Italy” and for sale for CAD $50 plus shipping. Just DM me with inquiries.
This lovely genie bottle is up for grabs :)
13.5” tall x 6” wide at the base, in perfect condition and with its original sticker!

Early 20th century Bohemian tango glass, anyone? I believe this one is by Welz, and it’s up for grabs - CAD$60 plus shipping, measuring 6 inches tall by 4 inches across.
Finally, my top pick from the show: this beautiful iridescent vase, attributed to WMF - Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik. The surface is called MYRA-Kristall, developed by Karl Wiedmann and launched in 1926. It was only produced for about 10 years prior to WWII.
I don’t think it photographs well but it was a sight to behold in person. It shimmered from every angle.
Of course (this being Vancouver) there was a lot of pieces. Nothing of his best work, but certainly one or two I’d never seen before!
Just for fun - a Victorian inkwell with sterling silver top that I swear weighed more than the desk it was sitting on!
Now, when I tell you I was absolutely obsessed with this little blue box…
I don’t know that I’d even keep anything in it! I’d just want to put it on a vanity and stare at it. The enamelling was masterful, the color (in person) was practically glowing. It was a tiny little piece of art!
Having seen quite a few Mary Gregory style vases, and not thinking much of them, I can say that this box has sold me entirely on enamelled decoration. It was just beautiful, one of my favourite pieces I saw on the day.
Where would I be without some Victorian glass? The vanity set was just sublime, but I do have a soft spot for the cranberry pickle castor - I know a lot of EAPG collectors who would have been drooling over it.
Continuing with the European theme - this is a Josef Inwald vase, and I knew it as soon as I picked it up! The fish were absolutely enchanting :)
I think a lot of the best and most interesting European early 20th century pieces will be making a comeback soon :)
This incredible malachite glass vase is attributed to Artur Pleva, designed for Curt Schlevogt as part of the Ingrid collection in the 1930s; I can find out almost nothing about Pleva, but it’s an astonishing piece. So stylish and elegant!
This was the most incredible Victorian sewing set, made from 18kt gold and mother of pearl; I spent a good 10 minutes gushing with the owner over it. It was so dainty!
A delightful vase. The seller claimed it to be French but it’s actually German, by Walterglass, called the Schmetterling vase. It has its original flower frog!
! So much Lalique. It was all quite sublime. I didn’t get a photo of it but there was one golden Lalique dish that just about took my breath away (hence why I didn’t get a photo!)
Scandinavian glass ^_^ and relevant to your interests ?
Photos from the Showpiece Art and Antiques Show I went to yesterday - I saw some incredible pieces! I’ll be posting a lot today!
Exciting times, friends - I may have found a pair of matched Kralik uranium vases from the early 20th century :D
Martini anyone? I have a set of four of these amazing hand blown amberina glasses for $50 plus shipping
I ship all over the world, or I can do local pickup in Vancouver, New West or Richmond ^_^ just drop me a DM.
