One thing that’s helped me withstand the hardships in my life was a mental shift I made from seeking happiness to seeking meaning. When I based my decisions upon my happiness I continually found myself disappointed. It took me years to realize that it is not possible to be “happy” 100% of the time and if that’s what I was looking for I would never find it.

By striving for meaning I’ve learned that it allows me to withstand what ever life throws at me because I understand that the end result means more than momentary pain and suffering. This mental shift has allowed me to become more self aware of the emotions I am feeling which has made me better able to analyze why I feel the way I feel so I could fix it, as opposed to trying to convince myself that I am happy.

One thing in particular that is more meaningful to me than anything is being able to spend time with my close friends and family; they always seem to put life in perspective.

One thing I’ve come to realize is that where you are, doesn’t matter nearly as much as who you are there with. Blessed I have the friends and family I do. 🙏🏻🙌🏻

Back when I had hourly jobs I dreaded the monotony of going to work a 9-5 everyday. These last few years I’ve realized that I only enjoy work if I’m continually learning and perfecting my craft. As a result of this mindset, the money came naturally. This is why progression is the first priority on my team. Since we emphasize growth and progression as a region, the job becomes more of a game than an obligation. This is why we brought out Parker Langeveld, the number one rep in the pest control industry, to train our team. To put that in perspective for those who aren’t familiar with D2D sales, he made 200k his first summer as a college freshman and changed his career path from bio tech to sales as a result.

As much as I love to flex, (which is a lot) I’ve come to realize the type of car I drive or the amount of money I make does not matter.

When I worked as a lifeguard making $15 an hour, all my decisions revolved around the amount of my paycheck. Where I could eat, where I could live, when I could surf, how much time I could spend with friends were all determined by how much I got paid every two weeks.

Now, after reaping the rewards of pounding the pavement for thousands of hours, I’m in complete control of my life. I get to choose how much time I spend with friends, I choose when I want to take time off, I choose where I want to eat, and I chose what the *% #¥ I want to do.

I’m sure .ss , who was working at Starbucks, and who was working at an accounting firm, would both agree that it’s not the money that matters it’s the time and freedom it gives you to be the person you want to be.  

I have a long way to go but the path ahead of me is leading towards financial freedom and living my life on my own terms. In short, I’ve come to realize that time and freedom are the real flex.
