Lauryn and Starr just finished eating dinner. Starr is mad that Lauryn was late to pick her up. She finished her food and went to bed.

"goodnight mommy" Starr said and left

"starshine!!" Lauryn called but she just walked

"oh God" Lauryn said and sips her wine.

Escobar's mansion📍

"f**k that was nice" Trinity said laying her head in Marco's chest

"I think we should take our relationship to another level" Trinity said

"meaning?" Marco asked

"I mean let's make it official" Trinity said

"I don't date" Marco said

"but I love you!!" trinity said and Marco stood from bed

"leave, I need to do some paperwork" Marco said

"Marco!!" Trinity shouted

"it's Mr Escobar to you" Marco said

"close the door on your way out" Marco said and got in the shower

After the shower, Trinity was gone. She couldn't risk getting fired at the spot. Marco pulled his drawer and came across a smartphone. He switched it on and Starr was on the wallpaper. It was Lauryn's phone

"what a cute baby" Marco said and smiled.

He put the phone back in the drawer and wore some clothes. He sat in his office and started getting busy. His eyes landed on a portrait on the wall. It was him, his late wife and a kid.

"I miss you honey" he said and eventually stopped what he was doing

Lunch📍

Lauryn went to join them for lunch. They were all talking and laughing

"oh you came" Kevin said

"yes" Lauryn said

"come, let me introduce you to others" Kevin said and they went to the others

"guys, this is Lauryn. She's the new receptionist" Kevin said

"wow, you're pretty" one lady said

"thank you" Lauryn adjusted her glasses

"don't worry, you will know them as time goes by" Kevin said and Lauryn nodded

"okay, let's grab lunch" they grabbed their takeaways and walked to another room

They sat down

"so, miss Lauryn..."

"just Lauryn please" Lauryn interrupted

"okay, just Lauryn, do you mind sharing about Lauryn? Who is Lauryn, why did you even end up here?" Kevin said

"well, If you must know, I have a degree but no job. That's why I ended up here. To take care of my child" Lauryn said

"wow, you have a child?"

"Starr, that's her name. I named her that because she was the light in my darkest hours and always made my days so bright. Without her I'm literally nothing" Lauryn said and Kevin kept quiet

"I talk too much don't I?" Lauryn felt embarrassed

"oh no. I love it when you talk" Kevin said

"anyway, enough about me. Tell me about yourself" Lauryn said

"well, I'm the CA here. Nothing much, just graduated and found a job here. I've been working here for almost five years" Kevin said

"wow, that's awesome"

"yeah I guess, it taught me to never give up on my dreams no matter what. And you should not do that too." Kevin said

"I guess you're right" Lauryn said and Kevin smiled

"oh no, lunch is almost over" Lauryn said

"we still have time to take a few bites" Kevin said and Lauryn chuckled

"not to be forward but can I have your numbers, just so you know, we're co-workers and..."

"I'm so sorry I can't do that" Lauryn said

"it's okay, no pressure" Kevin said

"no I mean, I don't have a phone that's why I cannot give you my number" Lauryn said

"oh, that makes sense" Kevin said and they both laughed.

"miss webbers!!" Trinity shouted

"I'm so sorry, I'll get another one" Lauryn said trying to clean up the mess

"leave it!!out, now!!" Trinity shouted and Lauryn got out immediately

"sorry, that's our new receptionist" Trinity said to Marco

"oh, nice" Marco said

"hey!! She's new. Don't get any ideas" Trinity said

"what ideas"

"never mind. So when am I going to see you?" Trinity said

"tonight, my place" Marco said

"I'll be there" trinity said

She tried to kiss him but he shifted. She ended up kissing his cheek

"bye" she said and got out

"receptionist?" Marco asked no one in particular

Lunch time📍

"sorry for calling you with this phone, I lost mine" Lauryn said

"so how's work?" minnie asked

"friend, there's a lot I need to tell you. I'll just come over after my shift."lauryn said

" cool" minnie said and Lauryn hung up

Lauryn cleaned up her desk before going to lunch. Marco came down with four bodyguards and Trinity. The bodyguards were surrounding him like he's the president or something. Lauryn pretended as if she was working

"please arrange all my meetings for the day to my house" Marco said to Trinity and she noted it down.

He finally went out of sight. Lauryn echaled and rested her head on the table.

"uhm, excuse me" a voice said and Lauryn lifted her head

"uhmmm, not to be forward or anything but it's lunch time" the guy said

"oh, I didn't check the time" Lauryn said

"if you okay with it, you can join us, me and the staff" the guy said

"oh really?"

"oh, where are my manners, I'm Kevin" the guy said

"I'm Lauryn and I'd love to join you guys for lunch" Lauryn said

"cool" Kevin said and walked away

Lauryn continued to clean up the table and she went to join the stuff. Since the company is huge, the staff get their own special lunch. No need for them to spend their money on lunch

Next day
05:30📍

The first alarm rang but Lauryn didn't hear it. The second one rang again abs she switched it off. She woke up with a banging headache.

"ouch" she said when touching her head

"what actually happened yesterday? How did I get here? Where is my phone?" Lauryn adkec herself a lot of questions

She went to the kitchen and made something for her hangover. After that she prepared breakfast. By 6am,she went to wake up Starr.

"Starr wake up and let's get ready for school" Lauryn said

"urhh I'm sleepy" Starr said

"you'll sleep when you come back. Wake up!!" Lauryn said

"arhhh fine" Starr said and woke up

She went to brush her teeth and took of her clothes to get her bath.

"mommy, that man is really nice" Starr said

"what man?" Lauryn asked

"the one that brought you home. It is the same man that tried to but me teddy bear remember. Now he brought you home safely. I'm glad that you gave him a second chance" Starr said

"Starr, what are you talking about?" Lauryn asked

"I'm saying that it is okay if he is my new daddy. I like him" Starr said

"I'm done. Go wear your shoes and stop saying nonsense. And by the way, you are never gonna see that man ever again. And we're fine just us two. We don't need a new dad" Lauryn said and Starr became a little sad

"okay mommy" Starr said and wore her shoes

She went to eat breakfast while Lauryn took a bath. She prepared for work but she still didn't find her phone.

"maybe I lost it" she said and walked over to Starr

"let's go, we will be late" Lauryn said to Starr

"aren't you eating mommy?" Starr asked

"no baby, I'll get something on the way" Lauryn said and Starr stood up. They left.

7am
New Heights Company📍

Lauryn arrived 10 minutes early. They showed her her table and she already knew what she was supposed to do.
In an hours time, some lady in suits came in.

"you must be the new receptionist" the lady said

"yes" Lauryn responded

"I'm Trinity, the CEOs PA. The boss will be here any minute and he wants his morning coffee. No sugar, extra milk and honey. And oh, get me one too, a regular coffee." the lady said.

"yes ma'am" Lauryn responded

She went to the coffee room. She did as she was told. No sugar,extra milk and honey. She read somewhere that lemon and honey in coffee are very tasty, so she took the risk trying to make an impression. She also got a Regular for Trinity.

She went to the lift and pressed the last floor. After a few minutes she was there. It was her first time seeing this section of the company. She saw a huge glass door and assumed it was the CEOs office, judging by the beauty. She opened the door and found Trinity with the boss

"uhmm I brought you guys...." before she could finish the guy faced her

It was him!! Marco Escobar. Lauryn couldn't believe her eyes. Before she could even realise, the coffee was on the floor.

Club📍

"I assure you, this will be the best deal ever" one guy said

There were 4 businessemen closing up a deal. Marco was one of them

"yes I agree with you" one guy said

"let's celebrate then. Order anything, it's on me" Marco said and stood up

He walked over to the bathroom and bumped into someone. Her glasses immediately fell.

"I'm sorry" Lauryn said and looked up. She saw a familiar face

"you!!! Why are you always following me!! Are you a stalker?!!" Lauryn shouted

"I'm not..." before he could even finish Lauryn vomitted on the floor

"are you okay..."

"don't touch me!!" Lauryn said and wiped her mouth.

"I'm going to my friend by the bar. Move over" Lauryn said and she suddenly froze. She looked at Marco

"I think I'm going to to pass out" Lauryn said

"wait right now?" Marco asked and Lauryn passed out.

Marco was too fast to catch her.

"okay what now" Marco said and picked her up in bridal style

He walked over to the bar where Minnie is. She was still with the guy.

"excuse me, can you give me a hand" Marco said to Minnie

"oh, Lauryn found herself a hunk. I'm her friend!!" minnie said. She was drunk too

"I see this is not going anywhere. Can you just tell me where she lives?" Marco said

"Grey fields Apartment" minnie said while kissing the guy

Marco walked out of the club with Lauryn on his hands. He laid her in the car and drove away.

Lauryn's place📍

"oh God I hope this is the place. The guy said it's this door" Marco said and attempted to open the door

"they didn't even lock the door, damn" Marco said and got in

He looked for the bedroom and found a little girl sleeping. He put Lauryn to bed and attempted to leave.

"excuse me Mr, are you mommy's friend?" Starr said in a sleepy voice

Marco turned to face her

"uhhh, yeah." Marco said

"wait, I know you. You are the good man that wanted to buy me a teddy bear" Starr said with a smile

"I think you should sleep. It's late" the guy said and walked away

"bye" Starr shouted but Marco already left

"minnie come on, it's been over 30 minutes already" Lauryn said

"almost doooone....... Anddddd, you can open your eyes now" minjie said and Lauryn opened her eyes

"I've never done make up before, this is so cool" Lauryn said

"okay, let's go" minjie said and stood up

"are you sure this dress is not too tight" Lauryn said

"no darling you look fabulous. Let's go" minnie said and stood her up

"oh no darling there's no need, I'll pay for everything. Let's go!!" minnie pulled her hand

Lauryn took her phone and they both go out of the house. They called a cab and it arrived after some time

"this place looks so expensive. There are even st*****rs" Lauryn said

"yeah so. Relax friend. I don't go to cheap places. There are even businessmen here closing deals and stuff. The businessmen you only see on TV. So maybe you can get a hunk who knows" minnie winked

"okay let's get something to drink" minnie said and they sat down

"bartender, 10 shots please!!!" minnie said

"10!!dude, that's a lot of money" Lauryn said

"babe relax, I got this" minnie said and took out her card

2 hours later...

Lauryn and Minnie were drinking cocktails and ciders. They were already drunk asf. They were in the middle of the club dancing to the loud pop music

"I told you that you will enjoy it!!" minnie responded

"I need to p*e, hold this!!" Lauryn gave minnie her drink and walked to the bathroom

Minnie sat down and some guy approached her.

"I'm Kevin" the guy said and kissed her hand

Lauryn was with Star and they were eating dinner. They were having a little chat and making jokes.

"so mommy, how did you do in your homework" Star asked Lauryn

"oh, about that. Mommy did very well. I got a new job!! In a few months we will move to a bigger place and you'll have your own bed, a lot of toys and I'll buy you all the things you need for painting" Lauryn said

"alright!!! I can't wait mommy!! I will paint you first" Star said

"and you are very good my baby. I believe one day you will be a great painter" Lauryn said

"I love you mommy" Star said and went to hug her mom from her chair

"I love you too baby. But now it's late, you have school tomorrow and it's already past your bedtime. Go brush your teeth and get to sleep, I'll join you soon" Lauryn said

"okay mommy, goodnight" Star said and ran to the room

Lauryn clearev up where they were eating and washed the dishes. After she was done, there was a knock on the door

"who is it?" Lauryn asked but the door just opened. It was Minnie with paper bags with designer clothes inside

"Minnie, what are you doing here?" Lauryn asked

"you thought I was joking? We are going out friend" Minnie said

"no can do friend. I have work tomorrow morning" Lauryn said

"okay friend. Just one drink and we come back. Just one" Minnie said

"Minnie...."

"pleeeeeeeeeeeease" Minnie begged and Lauryn thought for a while

"one drink and that's that" Lauryn said and Minnie screamed

"okay friend!!! Let's get dressed" Minnie shouted

"what's wrong with the way I'm dressed?" Lauryn asked

"uh... EVERYTHING!!friend, we're not going out with you dressed like that. So that's why I'm here with all these clothes" Minnie said

"welcome to New Heights Company" the lady said with a smile

"I'm sorry, what" Lauryn said shocked

"you will be starting tomorrow morning. As a receptionist you have to get her before 7,everyday" one guy said

"oh sure, definitely" Lauryn said, finally relaxed

"we will discuss your salary as the leaders here, and we will still need the Chief's thought on that. But for the next three months you will be getting 15k, is that okay Ms Lauryn?" the lady said

"fift... Fifteen?"

"yes fifteen"

"it's perfect. I didn't expect that much" lauryn said with a huge smile

"I guess we're done here. Welcome once again" the lady said and shook Lauryns hand

"thank you guys so much" Lauryn said and got out of the office

She froze for a moment to catch her breath, she then smiled while looking at the ceiling. She then walked out.

Minnie's place📍

"what!!" Minnie shouted

"I got the job!!!" Lauryn screamed and they both hugged

"wow wow wow!!! This calls for a celebration" Minnie shouted

"no girl, yk I don't drink much" Lauryn said

"you're right, we have to go out" Minnie said with a smile

"no I'll pass"

"I don't take no for an answer were going out" Minnie said

"I have to go pick up Starr, the driver ditched me" Lauryn said

"okay girl, go fetch your child. But then, we're going out. It's been a while and you need some air. We're both free today so we might as well enjoy" Minnie said

"bye Minnie" Lauryn said and got out

"she's crazy, we're going out tonight" Minnie said and drank some wine

After some minutes, a notification clicked on her phone. *+$150 000 in savings account* it was followed by *I'll be gone for a week, enjoy*
Minnie smiled and dialed that number

"hey sugar plum, thanks" Minnie said, biting her lips

"it's my job to spoil you baby"

"and I'll spoil you when you come back"

Lauryn woke up and bathed Star. She made breakfast and all that. After she was done, she also took a bath. She wore a black skirt with a white shirt. Tied her hair and applied gloss on her lips. It was already 7am by that time.

"okay baby, I think your transport will be here any moment" Lauryn said to Star

"uhhh mommy, there's something I need to tell you" Star said in a scared voice, Lauryn frowned

"the driver said he cannot get me to school anymore, he said you didn't give him money" Star said

"and you're only telling me now!!" Lauryn said

"gosh you can be a problem sometimes Star!!" Lauryn shouted and Star kept quiet

They did their handshake and Star ran into the school. Lauryn checked the time and exhaled

She stopped a cab and got in. Even though she knew it was gon cost her a lot, all she wanted was to get there early. She took that risk.

"miss Lauryn Webbers, please follow me" some lady said after spotting Lauryn

They walked to some room

"please take a seat, they will be ready for you very soon" the lady said and Lauryn dat down

"God be with me" Lauryn said in her breath

"miss Webbers, they are ready for you" another lady said and directed Lauryn in an office

There were three ladies and two men. Lauryn greeted politely and sat down. They asked her some questions and she answered with confidence.

"it seems like you have the correct qualifications for a PA, if only we were looking for a PA. You don't have experience but that's not a problem" one lady said and Lauryn swallowed, her fingers crossed under the table

The Lady smiled.

"welcome to New Heights Company miss Webbers" the lady said and Lauryn almost fainted

"okay I'm done, you can wear your shoes now" Lauryn said after bathing Star

"I'm sorry I was talking to strangers. I just wanted the doll and he wanted to get it for me. I didn't know he was bad" Star said with a sad face

Lauryn exhaled and sat next to her.

"baby, not all people are bad. You just have to know them first before you can get comfortable around them. Some are very bad people, always remember that."Lauryn said and Starr hugged her

"we are from New Heights Company and we would like to inform you that your interview has been organized"

"tomorrow, 9am sharp"

"thank you so much, I'll be there"

"have a nice evening" the caller said and Lauryn hung up

She hugged star again.

"I have a feeling that I'll be buying you that doll" Lauryn said

"but mommy, it has many zeros" Starr said

"mommy got an interview tomorrow morning" Lauryn said

"what is that?" Starr asked

"it's like a homework, if I pass I get a good paying job. And when I do, I'll get you ice cream everyday and we will live in a big house with many dolls" Lauryn said

"and how do you know little miss?" after asking her, they both touched their hearts.

She got out of the room. She went outside. The sky was already filled with stars. She exhaled

"and here's your extra large double chocolate ice cream little one" the guy said giving Star her ice cream

The ice cream guy and Lauryn laughed. Lauryn then paid and they walked to a bench nearby
They ate their ice creams while making jokes and laughing

"mommy" Star called

"yes my superstar"

"they gave us homework to draw our family, and everyone will draw their mommy and daddy"

"oh" Lauryn said

"but mommy, I don't have a daddy. He died in a car accident remember."Star said

" yes. But you can draw me and you. Girl power" Lauryn said with a smile

"yay!!" Star screamed and they did their special handshake

"you done with your ice cream?" lauryn asked

"yes mommy"

"now, let's go buy you all the arts and crafts stuff you need for your homework" lauryn said

"but mommy" Star gave her some puppy eyes

"piggyback ride" Lauryn asked and Star nodded

"argh fine" Lauryn said and star quickly jumped on her mommy's back

Kids Store📍

"okay baby, stay here okay. I'm going to look for your stuff" Lauryn said and Star nodded

Lauryn went to the other side and Star walked around. She spotted a cure big white teddy bear. It caught her eyes.

"you like it" a voice said from behind, star turned. It was a man

"the doll" the man said

"yes, it's pretty. But it has a lot of zeros and mommy said anything with a lot of zeros needs too much money" Star said

"I have the money, but do you want the doll" the man said

"yes!!" Star screamed and they gave her the doll

"Star!Star!" Lauryn screamed

"mommy" Star called too

"I told you to stay in one place" Lauryn said and picked her up

"but mommy, this man here bought me a teddy bear" star said

"what are you doing with my daughter!!" lauryn yelled

"I just thought..."

"you thought what!! This is my child!! I can take care of my own child do you hear me!!" Lauryn yelled and walked away

The guy paid for some toys and some guy with black suits came in.

"sir are you okay? I heard yelling" the guy asked

"I'm fine Tom. Get this toys in the car and let's go" the guy said

"yes boss"

"thank you for shopping at our store Mr Escobar, it's such an honor" The attendant said and the guy only nodded.

Later that day...

It was already past Lauryn's time and she was supposed to be at home. Instead she was still working. A car pulled over and Star appeared. She got in the Cafe and started searching for her mother. Minnie saw and went to her

"hey angel, how are you doing" Minnie said

"hi aunt Minnie mouse, is mommy here? Star asked like a matured person.

"just wait here okay" Minnie said and walked over to Lauryn who was busy with customers

"uhmm Lauryn..."

"there's someone here to see you" Minnie said and pointed at star

Lauryn's eyes fell on her daughter. What an angel she has given birth to.

"Star" she said and walked over to her to hug her

"what are you doing here baby" Lauryn asked

"I went home and you wasn't there. So I asked my driver to drop me here" Star said

"plus, you promised me ice cream. And I'm hungry" Star grumbled

"oh okay baby, give me a sec" Lauryn said and walked over to Minnie

"friend can you..."

"it's okay babe, go" Minnie replied

"thank you my friend" Lauryn said and handed her an apron and walked over to her daughter

"so, what flavor do you want" Lauryn asked while there were on their way out

"chocolate!!" Star screamed

"okay, I guess we will have chocolate" Lauryn said and Star smiled.

Lauryn arrived late at work. She missed her train and had to wait for a bus. She got in and tried to go to the changing room without being seen

"miss Webbers" the manager said and Lauryn stopped and slowly turned

"yes boss" she said with a nervous smile

"I thought your shift was supposed to start at 7am and it's past 9 now" the manager said

"you see, I had some tr..."

"this is your last warning Lauryn" the manager said and walked away

Lauryn exhaled and went to the dressing room. She got in and found Minnie, her only best friend.

"late again?" Minnie asked without looking at her. She was on her phone

"I missed my train" Lauryn said and started to change

"how's everything at home? How's Star?" Minnie asked putting her phone down

"she's fine. Michael is still not talking to me" Lauryn said

"it's been years and I've been telling you the same thing. Forget about Michael. If he wanted to be part of Star's life he would have been here."minnie said and Lauryn exhaled

She walked closer to her and tapped her shoulder

" you're better off without him. And besides, you done a great job with Star " Minnie said and Lauryn smiled

Soon, a message clicked on Lauryn's phone. It was her landlord.

"oh gosh" she said after seeing the message

"what is it?" Minnie asked

"it's my landlord. I missed 3 months payment" Lauryn said

"I guess I'll have to work extra hours" she added.

Minnie looked at her before pulling her bag. She took out a couple of notes.

"here friend" Minnie said

"oh no I can't do that... It's fine I can..."

"don't worry friend. You need it more than me" minnie said

"I can't take it I'm sorry" Lauryn said

"okay, I'm doing this for Star. I don't want her to be homeless. So take this money and go pay the rent" minnie said

"I promise I'll pay it back very soon" Lauryn said

"no need. It's yours. Like I said, you need it more" minnie smiled

"thank you friend" Lauryn said and hugged her

"that's what friends are for" minnie said and they broke the hug

"now go start your shift before “you know who” comes in here" minnie said and they laughed

"you're right, let me get going" Lauryn took her apron and ran out of the dressing room

Minnie smiled and went to where she was sitting, and started pressing her phone.

"Starr!!" that was Lauryn calling her daughter

"I'm coming mommy!!" Starr responded

"hurry up" Lauryn said in a low voice and Starr came down

"bye" Starr went out and the driver got in the house

She took a shower, wore some normal clothes to go to work. She works at a Cafe and a night club. Waitress at day, bartender at night.

She took her phone and dialed a certain number. The person picked up at the third ring

"hello, who's this" it was a man

"Michael, it's me. Lauryn" Lauryn said

"I told you to stop calling me!!" Michael shouted

"but Michael, our child..."

"I don't have a child, I told you to abort that baby since high school and no, you kept it. So that's your problem not mine!!" Michael said

"but...." before she could even finish the call was cut
