“What kind of monster do you think it will be!?” You look over to see Eva overcome with joy and excitement. Back when father was around she would love to watch him come home with a new specimen after every hunt. He would always bring her some new trinket from the journey, and she would line her room with them.
The skin and the fur just evaporate right off the bone and disappear. The hunter takes advantage of your bewilderment and jabs you in the stomach. You topple over and see him run off into the forest. You look back at the animal to see nothing but bone piled into a heap on the ground.
“What the hell is going on…”
PROLOGUE
It was the age of the beast. Lands far and wide were covered with all sorts of wild creatures. The Black Winter took a lot from Mohr, and left us to survive some harsh conditions. Thankfully everyone pulled together to make sure that there was plenty of food to go around. That winter was the worst that I can recall but it brought out the best in people. Most of the time. Now everywhere you go there are people claiming to have captured another exotic creature. It is a marvelous sight to see. People are happy again. Just a short time ago they were scavenging and starving to death. With the good is always the bad I suppose. War is inevitable when people disagree about things. Some of the bigger villages have started attacking the smaller ones to take their land and hunt their beasts. Some see them as trophies, others see them as threats. The people of Mohr have changed quite dramatically recently. Time is a tricky thing…
