Thanks to all who contributed to the Rivalry Week Food Drive! Although SHS lost to THS in the food totals (14,013 to 17,838), TOGETHER we donated over 30,000 food items to the district food pantry! Definitely a win!

The SHS PTSA is once again sponsoring the Reflections arts program for all SHS students. The theme this year is "LOOK WITHIN." They can enter in seven categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, 2-D art, and 3-D art. Students can enter in every category (one entry per category) and every entry wins a $5 Sinclair gift card (limit 3 per student). The deadline for entries is October 29/30 (before school either day). Students can look up official rules for each category and print a registration form on www.utahpta.org/reflections. Please contact Michelle Ricks, Reflections coordinator, with any questions. (email [email protected]). We have had entries of past students from SHS advance to the State Reflections competition and earn prizes! We know our Stallion students have amazing talents and encourage them to "LOOK WITHIN" and share them through Reflections!

Only three more days left for the food drive! You can drop off donations at Stansbury High School (box outside the from office) and at the football game against Tooele Friday night-but only until halftime! Help the Stallions beat the Buffs on and off the field!

Calling all Stallions! Please support our food drive which benefits students throughout the Tooele County School District. We are competing with Tooele High School to see who can donate the most food items to the weekend meal kit pantry at the district. Every week students in our district dread the weekend because they know there might not be enough to eat in their homes. They can go to their school counselors and get a weekend meal kit to take home. We want to pack the pantry with plenty of supplies for the year! So please donate! You can drop off food at SHS anytime between now and the rivalry football game on Friday, September 13. We will also be collecting during the first half of the game and will announce the winner during halftime. Please see the flyer for more details about the kind of food we are hoping to collect. Thanks!

(the following is an email going to all SHS parents)
Hello parents,

Welcome back to SHS for another great school year! We hope you are already familiar with the PTSA, but if you are new to the Stallion community, please keep reading and learn about us! Stansbury High School is the only high school in the district that has a PTSA (Parent-Teacher-Student Association). This allows us to involve Stansbury High School students in state and national programs such as Reflections and Battle of the Bands. We are proud to offer these opportunities for our students to grow, excel and compete in some non-traditional areas. We are also proud of our role at Stansbury High as a resource for administration and teachers. With help from administration and parents, we provide dinners for the teachers at Parent-Teacher Conferences as well as support for counseling office programs. We realize that you AND your students are busy and involved in many worthwhile activities and we really try to prioritize and focus our resources in ways that make a difference.

You may have noticed a page on your online registration through the school district that allowed you to sign up for PTSA on the district website and pay dues ($6 per person) through the school fees link. We want to let you know that there is also the option to signup and pay for your dues on our website, www.stallionsptsa.memberhub.com. If you have already paid your fees and forgot to add PTSA, this is a great option. We hope you will check out the website anyway, since we have great content about our upcoming programs at SHS and links to other resources. When you sign up and pay your dues, you will receive a great bonus--a local discount card that you can use throughout the school year at many great Tooele County businesses. You will easily recoup your $6 membership fee with this card in your wallet. When you complete your membership, we will send the discount card home with your SHS student. Please consider a membership for you, your spouse, and your high school students. You will receive a discount card for every membership!

If any of you are thinking, "I am so DONE with PTA now that my kids are in high school," "I am burned out on PTA" "I don't want to do field day anymore"--

we completely understand--and encourage you to join anyway! Joining PTSA does NOT equal signing up for a committee. Joining PTSA DOES show your support for our programs and SHS students and faculty. Joining PTSA also supports advocacy for all students at the state and national level. SHS PTSA will email you only occasionally with updates on what is happening at SHS and our programs. We hope you will look at our communication with you as a valuable way to keep tabs on what is happening at the school (just in case your high-school student is less than reliable at keeping you up-to-date). And yes, of course we hope that some of you will be willing to help provide food for teachers, judges for Reflections, and musicians and audience members at Battle of the Bands!
