Also, something I've been meaning to address:
A question people often ask beaders: "why is it so expensive"?
Honestly, I myself undercharge for my work. If I actually priced all materials and labor and expertise, etc, some of my work would be in the 100's. But I don't feel comfortable charging that much since I do this for fun. So I try to at least price where I'd feel comfortable at letting them go, often without actually making a profit. I basically sell just to fund buying new materials. 😅 I often gift/trade more pairs than I actually sell and I love it! So it saddens me when people feel like the work I do sell is too expensive for them. That's also why I started making simple pairs that are more affordable, and actually sell well.

Here is a sample breakdown:
1 pair of rhinestone hoops:
Materials: ~$10-15 (depending on the beads and stones used)
Labor: between 3-6+ hours (depending on size)
Packaging: ~$3 + time to package and print labels and gas to drop off at USPS

If I paid myself $10/hr, the most simple/small pair I should charge:
$10 (materials) + $30 (labor) + $6 (packaging/labor/gas) = $46 (bare minimum without profit).
But those pairs I typically charge around $30.

I hope that helps explain why beadwork may seem expensive. Also, when you see very inexpensive hand made pieces (not including the labor exploited ones sold in stores), just know they are usually not making a profit and have to undercharge just to skirt along. If you cannot afford it, that's fine, just don't ask artists to lower their prices, or say it's too expensive (happens more often than you think). Maybe save a few dollars a week, and so the next craft fair, powwow, etc you attend, you'll have enough to buy a really nice lovingly made piece! We love what we do, which is why many crafters/artists are willing to undercharge, which isn't really fair. How else would the "broke artist" become a stereotype?
