Pope Francis' Gospel Reflections
Jesus rejoices in his spirit because he knows and feels that his Father is the God of the Universe, and vice versa, the Lord of all that exists is the Father, “My Father”. Praise springs from this experience of feeling that he is “Son of the Most High”. Jesus feels he is Son of the Most High. And then Jesus praises the Father for favouring the little ones. It is what he himself experiences, preaching in the villages: the “learned” and the “wise” remain suspicious and closed; they make calculations; while the “little ones” open themselves and welcome his message. This can only be the will of the Father, and Jesus rejoices in this. We too must rejoice and praise God because humble and simple people welcome the Gospel. (…) To whom is praise helpful? To us or to God? A text of the Eucharistic liturgy invites us to pray to God in this way, it says this: “Although you have no need of our praise, yet our thanksgiving is itself your gift, since our praises add nothing to your greatness, but profit us for salvation” (Roman Missal , Common Preface IV). By giving praise, we are saved. (…) Giving praise is like breathing pure oxygen: it purifies the soul, it makes you look far ahead, it does not leave you imprisoned in the difficult and dark moment of hardship. Pope Francis' Gospel Reflections
New wine into old wineskins. Thus “for new wine, new wineskins”. This “is the newness of the Gospel”. Francis then asked, “what does the Gospel bring us? Joy and newness”. However, he continued, “these doctors of the law were locked up in their commandments, in their rules. (…) “One of you may tell me: but father, don’t Christians have laws? Yes! Jesus said: I have not come to abolish the law but to fulfil it”. And the “fullness of the law, for example are the Beatitudes, the law of love, total love, as He, Jesus, has loved us”. (…) This is why “the Church asks us, all of us, for a few changes. She asks us to leave aside fleeting structures; they aren’t necessary! And get new wineskins, those of the Gospel”. “It is not possible to understand the mentality, for example, of these doctors of the law, these Pharisee theologians, with the spirit of the Gospel. They are different things”. In fact, “the Gospel’s approach is a different approach, which leads to the fulfillment of the law”. But “in a new way: it is the new wine in new wineskins”. At St Joseph Parish Edward Nnaji this morning, the Members of CASANSJP and I had our Saturday cleanup we washed the sacred linens and vessels, washed the vestments, weeded the front of the sacristy, and Practiced for Mass tomorrow.
This initiative ( A weekend with the President) introduced by me in the Region is aimed at:
1. To nurture the younger brothers with the presence and interaction with an Elder Brother like me. The presence of Greatness they say, inspires Greatness.
2. As President of the Region, it gives me the opportunity to interact on a more personal level with them,
Hear from them and them from me. And try to help out everyone out in both their personal life and in their Ministries as Altar servers.
3. Practicing for Mass with them will ensure that they learn better patterns of Serving Mass and hopefully have a uniform pattern for serving Mass in the Region.
4. Serving Mass with them will motivate them to be better than perfect their service with time.
Another weekend, I'll pick another Parish and spend my weekend with them.
Tomorrow I'll serve both of their Masses with them- 6 am and 8:30 am. I pray the time we spend with each other will rub off on us and bear fruits that will last.

Gospel of the Day (John 20,24-29)
Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.
So the other disciples said to him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe."
Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you."
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe."
Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
Jesus said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."
