This is Benny! Benny’s story is short, but sweet! Just the way we like them in rehab! One of my mentors received a call about a misplaced bunny in a shopping center near a dog grooming store front. I jumped right in to the rescue! Little Benny was very scared but super sweet. He was healthy by all accounts. We aren’t sure if he was dropped by a predator, or just ventured off and found himself far away from home! There was no chance in finding momma, so I took him in and checked for injuries, warmed him, gave him a nice, dark, quiet corner of the house and gave him time to settle. Benny wasn’t excited about his new digs. He wanted nothing to do with me or my attempts at hydration. Bunny’s are the most fragile of all rehab creatures. Their best chance of survival is with mom. PUT THE BUNNY BACK! As we always say! (I’ll always be happy to guide you in how to do that safely) I decided to go a little different route in this case, I just needed to be sure he was able to survive on his own, because healthy, wild bunnies don’t do well in captivity. I provided him with fresh wet greens I gathered from the yard (no worries of chemicals!) provided him a tiny dish of water, and some “bunny crack” with probiotics for his fragile gut and put on some weight and kept an eye on him. He was the sweetest bun! After a couple days of eating VERY well and healthy pee’s and poops, a few extra grans of weight, I decided Benny would be in much better hands with momma nature. A little smaller, but not by much, then my rehab bunnies would normally release at, but this guy had real bunny life experience! And he was ready for the world! I took him to my favorite bunny spot…surround by thick brush (I’m still picking thistle and pickers off everything) an abundance of fresh water and greens, plenty of bunny friends to give him a family ♥️🙏🏼🐰🙏🏼

Good luck my sweet beautiful Benny! It was truly my pleasure to know you! Don’t squander this second chance my sweet friend!! ♥️BE FREE BENNY!♥️ I love you 🥹

Little Lily in a milk comma ♥️🐿️♥️

Thank you to the finders who make every attempt to do what’s best for these babies and turning them over to a rehabber so they can get proper care and released back to nature. THANK YOU TO THE LITTLE GIRLS WHO FOUND AND NAMED THESE BABIES. I always give the finders the option to name them and give updates up to release. A day in the trees is better then a lifetime in a cage ♥️ waiting and trying to care for these guys is very expensive and hard work and could jeopardize their health. The internet likes to paint a picture of cuteness and wonderfulness, and it can be! But these are wild animals. They grow up to be adult wild squirrels. Squirrels do not make good pets. They deserve their freedom and deserve proper care from experienced rehabbers ♥️please reach out if you find yourself in a situation to help these littles and get them the proper care needed immediately. Do not attempt to feed. Find a rehabber for guidance! 🙏🏼

It’s been a while, I know! Still out here saving babies. Welcome Lily and Louie! Their tree was chopped down sending momma running. After several attempts to reunite, I adopted them as my own. The goal is always to get them back into the loving arms of momma nature. These siblings are doing very well and growing like little weeds. Welcome babies. I gotchu!

Today was release day for my sweet little Eevee!!! Playfully named by the son of the finder, who stumbled upon the grizzly seen of his ill fated sibling who wasn’t as lucky as our little Eevee. Little Eevee was found huddling against a tree frozen in fear. Unable to find the nest or momma, the finder was afraid that whatever got his brother may come back for him and took him home and made the call. I welcomed this little guy with open arms. Bun buns are the most difficult to rehab, but my love for these little creatures has made me educate myself in every aspect so that I may give them the best care I know how. Every life matters ♥️ little Eevee was released in a large wooded area with lots of cover, plenty of water sources and ample food. When scouting out his new home we spotted several bunnies in the area. So bittersweet to watch your babies go off into the world. Eevee started his new life today. He was cautious, curious, and brave, and excited to finally be free of the cage that held him. I’m so very excited and proud of my little baby bun bun Eevee!!! Run free little Eevee! Run FREE! ♥️💔♥️💔♥️🐇♥️♥️♥️♥️

What a difference a few weeks can make!! These little brothers were brought to me when their nest was discovered in a tree that was chopped down. I was told attempts to reunite with momma were unsuccessful, my gut tells me they were probably baby-napped. ☹️ Regardless of their sad beginnings, It’s my job to ensure a happy ending. It’s always a little scary when babies are brought to you fragile, scared, eyes closed, poor diet, diarrhea, and screaming for momma. Then one day, after many sleepless nights of hydrating and feedings, an eye pops open, then the next! I’m not sure exactly how to describe the elation and relief that only rehabbers will truly understand. It is in that moment that I feel honored and blessed that universe has trusted me with this tiny life. Life is truly an adventure!! ♥️🐿♥️

Please, scrap the trap!!! ♥️🦝♥️

As always, I’m always willing to walk you through the process. Myself or a rehabber in your area will come help you. Please consider this before contacting pest control…and we work for FREE!!!!

Left on the ground at a park for three days…Edin and Borough are lucky to be alive.

A homeowner was hearing noises in their attic and in their walls for at least a week. One day, they looked behind the washing machine in their basement and found two baby raccoons. They hired a pest control company and somehow the decision was made to put the two baby raccoons outside on the ground at a nearby park. When the homeowner reached out to us, we immediately asked them to go get those babies. We explained that they cannot regulate their own body temperature and that they will die of hypothermia, starvation/dehydration, or be eaten by predators, whichever comes first. The homeowner walked over to the park and found one baby breathing heavily but the other was nowhere to be found. We instructed her to take that baby back home and to put it on heat and then go back and search thoroughly for the second baby. Luckily, after some time, she was able to find the second baby. It is truly a miracle that these raccoons are still alive. In fact, they’re only alive because they are around 5-6 weeks old and because they have a guardian angel. They are still very far from being able to survive on their own but if these raccoon kits were any younger they would have been dead much sooner.

Now, here’s the hard part…as much as this situation shakes us to our core, we understand and accept that these homeowners thought that they were doing the right thing. This is why it’s so important to reach out to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator if you need help evicting a mom and babies; please, skip the pest control company and .

So, how do you properly and humanely evict a raccoon and her family? First, try humane eviction methods such as a bright light pointed at the nest, a radio set to a talk channel 24/7, coyote urine, male raccoon urine, moth balls, lavender oil, etc. Use as many of these in conjunction as you can. The idea is to make the area uninviting so that mom hates her neighbors and decides to break the lease immediately.

Second, if those methods do not work or if you are skipping humane eviction methods for whatever reason (which we strongly advise against), you need to catch mom first. You should be setting traps near the babies and/or near the point of access where mom is gaining entry. If you take the babies first, you significantly decrease the chances that mom will be caught and you will therefore increase the chances of the babies becoming orphans. Please repeat this…Catch. Mom. First.

THEN, and only then, grab the babies. And perhaps the most important part….contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator who will guide you on what to do next. Mom and babies should go directly to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. DO NOT SIMPLY DUMP THEM IN THE WOODS. They will not survive. We have a process by which mom and babies go into an outdoor release enclosure long enough for mom to become familiar with her surroundings, and then we slowly create openings for mom to come and go as she normally would out in the wild.

The best way to evict a mom and babies is through humane eviction methods. The moment humans get involved, that’s when things go awry. Pest control companies usually operate in one of two ways… They either kill mom and babies or they simply kidnap the babies, seal up the access point(s) so that mom is locked out, and then they either kill the babies or dump them on a wildlife rehabilitator who now bears the significant burden of raising them. Don’t get me wrong, our job is to help wildlife; But we prefer to focus our energy and efforts on wildlife that is truly displaced versus being kidnapped and intentionally orphaned by companies who profit from engaging in these activities.

Please, we MUST coexist ♥️🙏🏼🐇🙏🏼♥️

Come on humans, I’m losing faith!!! Help me, help them!!!’

Yep it’s me again. Time for another talk. And I say all of this with kindness and compassion and many many thanks to all out there who bring me little baby things that need help. Thank you for your compassion.

If you would - please just text me at 940-442-8289 for a very speedy response.

Your dogs. Let’s have a chat.
I will not take the babies from their mother unless none of these work:

1. Leave them be and keep your dogs away. They have to stay with their mom until they are 10 days old unless there are extenuating circumstances. I mean it.

2. If I take them you will promise me that you will secure your fenceline so that no more rabbits can get in your yard. I understand that this isn’t always possible but we can still work with it.

3. Teach your lovely dog to LEAVE IT. There are some hilarious videos on how to teach your dog to leave it. Train your dog. Everyone will be much happier.

So how to keep them safe? Here’s how:

1. Shoebox lined with a T-shirt placed on a heating pad set on low/medium;
2. Bring babies in and keep them inside until 6pm. ;
3. Put something heavy over the nest (remember babies are inside in their shoebox) so that the dogs can’t destroy the nest;
4. Put babies back in their nest around 6-10pm for mom to feed;
5. If you have an extra Ring camera put it out by the nest so that you can monitor when she comes and goes;
6. Bring babies back inside and replace whatever it was you put over the nest to protect it;
7. Rinse and repeat until their eyes open.

No they don’t carry diseases
Yes you can touch them with your bare hands
No leave the nesting material in the nest

Because those mama rabbits miss their babies. They mourn when they can’t find them. They will continue to come back and look for them. And then since Nature hates a void she will come back and have another litter right in the exact same spot.

Co-exist.

As I prepare to release my overwintered crew, these little babes showed up to ensure I don’t get bored and have no money in my pockets. These little guys were deep in a tree that was cut down. I’m still trying to locate four of their siblings who have gone off to what I pray is someone with experience. The finders of these littles, fed them goat milk mixed with peanut butter. Although the intention was good, I’ve been spending their first hours with me hydrating and flushing their systems so I can get them going on a proper diet.

Friends, I can not express enough how important it is to try to reunite babies with their momma. Momma’s want their babies and will go through exceptional lengths to get them back. They usually have several nests and can relocate them in an instant. I’ve witnessed this beautiful and remarkable reunion. I can walk you through the process or come and assist if possible/necessary. Don’t give up on momma, if she can come back, she will!!
If momma met her fate and they need help, PLEASE, PLEASE REACH OUT TO A LICENSED AND EXPERIENCED REHABBER!!! Wildlife is so fragile and the best intentions can lead to death. Raising babies is challenging, expensive, and rarely how the internet would lead you to believe how wonderful having a wild squirrel is. They are destructive, can become aggressive, and bite HARD!!!! I have the scars to prove it!!! If you can not find help or need advice in getting a newly found baby the help it needs, please reach out. I have a wonderful life line of experienced rehabbers, vets, and professional squirrel raisers who will do everything in their power to assist you to get these babies healthy and back in the arms of momma nature. Always accepting donations for the care of my littles!

Rest In Peace my beautiful Little Buddy 💔

It’s been a tough couple days here at Rocky’s Rescue. A strange illness swept across the littles sparing a few but infecting several others and taking out my sweet little girl. I’ve been working closely with several veteran rehabbers and my vet and we’ve been able to stabilize the others and they are making a strong come back. It’s been an absolute mystery and I’ve tapped every single resource to nurse them back to health. This precious baby was too sick and succumb to this perplexing illness. I did everything in my power to save her, including CPR when she stopping breathing…her little heart fought like hell. She’s been a fighter from the beginning and she fought until the very end. She was such a lover and held onto me so tight until her very last breath 💔 rehabbing is so very rewarding!!! But it can be absolutely devastating and heartbreaking. You pour every ounce of your extra time, energy, money and heart into getting these babies back to the wild, and when you lose one before they get the opportunity to swing from the trees, it’s complete devastation. I know many will never understand, but for those of you who do, know this feeling all to well and I salute you for your labor of unconditional love, sleepless nights, endless education and research and empty pockets. This could quite possibly be the most difficult venture I have ever taken on. I will say that the rewards far out weigh the loss as these creatures are very misunderstood. I’ve been completely intrigued by their intelligence, their ability to show love and loyalty, their tight family ties with their siblings and their ability to understand and appreciate you are there to help and show complete gratitude. They are incredible, but I also respect that they are wild animals and they will quickly remind you.

I continue to monitor the others and they are on the mend. I can not thank my fellow veteran rehabbers and my outstanding vet enough, who have walked with me, and never left my side doing all we could to help my littles. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ♥️

It’s giving Tuesday!!! I know there are many, many deserving charities out there worthy of your hard earned cash. Im just one girl out here trying to save as many wilds as I can. I’ve never been comfortable asking for money or donations. But without them, I’m going to have to put a second mortgage on my house! ☺️ As a rehabber, every dime that goes to to my babies, with the exception of my previous fund raiser is out of pocket. My weekly grocery bill for the wilds alone is over $60 and that does not include the necessary rodent blocks vital for their diet. All vet costs ($260 this morning for two baby squirrels who have become very sick, praying it doesn’t spread to the others) supplies, food and shelter are expenses I take on willingly in the truest labor of love. For those of you who would rather contribute to care without the worry of where your hard earned dollars go, I have an Amazon page set up with the very necessary supplies to keep them happy and healthy. If you’re looking for a charity to support, won’t you consider helping these beautiful babies?!?

Good morning friends!!! I’m in need of natural treats for the babies. This should be easy but I don’t want to just go on someone’s property and start chopping on trees. If you have any of these things to donate and located in the downriver area (Lincoln Park) I would love to swing by and grab some!!! Inbox me!!! 🙏🏼♥️🐿♥️🙏🏼

What a beauty this little girl is! Welcome Zoey! She’s quite the stunner! She’s still a bit nervous, and trying to get used to her new bigger digs, but she absolutely loves love and will snuggle up nice and tight and take all the rubs you will give her. ♥️

This!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

My thoughts when I see an injured animal and someone tells me to “let nature take its course”…

It’s not natural for an animal to be hit by a car going 70 miles an hour on a road dividing its natural eco system.

Birds of prey dying after eating poisoned rodents isn’t exactly what Mother Nature had intended.

It’s not a force of nature when an animal loses its home due to trees being cut down or a parking lot being paved.

All the animals paying the ultimate price for the pollution we have put on this planet isn’t natural selection.

I think it’s only “natural” that some of us want to help those whose lives we have made more difficult due to our existence.

One could say it’s our nature to help…

and we are going to let that “nature” run its course…

My phone is always sharing memories of my little guy, reminding me when things get tough, and I’m tired and don’t wanna get up and feed the monsters, or clean cages, or chop vegetables, why I do this. Man, how I miss him. There hasn’t been another remotely close to the character, gentleness, love, gratefulness, personality and silliness this little guy displayed. He was truly one of a kind and the reason I’ve been able to help so many creatures since. I’m honored and blessed he touched my life. Even with a room full of littles my heart still aches for this little dude. He is sorely missed. There will always be a hole in my heart where this little squirrel once resided and a wilderness full of babies that this guy inspired me to save. Thank you my beautiful Rocky for choosing me 🙏🏼♥️🐿♥️🙏🏼
