Guhit Kontra Droga: Empowering Change through Digital Art
By Reyven Dael

Every year, the third week of November is designated by the government as "Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week" to raise awareness about the harmful effects of illegal drug use. It is an advocacy that promotes and encourages people to maintain a drug-free community. In connection with this, through the collective creativity, the NDEP - Barkada Kontra Droga of Basilan National High School initiated the idea of having a "Guhit Kontra Droga: Digital Art Making". The goal was to support the significance of raising awareness and promoting positive change for young individuals within the community.

Utilizing the unique visual impact of digital art, the "Guhit Kontra Droga" aims to create compelling artworks that convey the harsh realities and consequences of drug abuse on individuals. It is a clear way to better understand what message it wants to convey to those who will see it. Through different colors and designs, it aims to illustrate the aspects of drug abuse that are often overlooked or misunderstood.

Furthermore, making digital art is a platform to convey advocacy and consciousness to more people in a faster way. It also encourages people, particularly the youth, to engage themselves more in doing the said activity. Youths who have an interest in making digital arts regarding the issue can become advocates in their homes and communities. They can also have the opportunity to develop their personal skills regarding this matter.

In conclusion, these are important and meaningful initiatives. By leveraging the medium of digital art, this act is not only raises awareness about the perils of drug abuse but also empowers individuals and communities to take a stand against this pervasive problem. With the potential of wide audience, we can create and have a clear, beautiful, and healthy drug-free life.
