I typically schedule new clients for at least 3 sessions and most of my clients respond very well to hypnosis starting with the first one.

Be sure to schedule your online session at a time when you can be alone in your home or in another safe, quiet, private place.

Before your session, you will want to make sure you are in an environment that is conducive to relaxation and free of any disturbances. You can be resting in a comfortable chair or you may like to be able to lay down once the session begins.

Make sure you have a comfortable pair of ear buds or head phones that will allow you an immersive experience.

Once you are all settled and we connect in the meeting, we will discuss your goals. After we reach an understanding of the subject to be covered during the session, I will guide you through a relaxing experience of creative problem-solving and learning. Sometimes you will be simply relaxing and receiving, sometimes you may want to communicate. Both are welcome aspects of the experience.

Many clients find closing their eyes to be the easiest way to relax, but you are free to have your eyes open and gently focused in front of you if that feels more comfortable. Either approach can be equally effective.

After spending about 30-45 minutes in hypnosis, I will gently guide you back to normal waking consciousness. We have a brief conversation about your experience, if you wish, and you're on your way!

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. It is a myth to think that someone else can hypnotize you. A skilled hypnotherapist simply guides you on your natural journey to self-hypnosis.

Because hypnosis is simply a process of learning through relaxation, everyone can be hypnotized. Everyone has the ability to relax, let go, learn, and be creative.

Sometimes, however, distractions or concerns come up that prevent you from using these skills in the moment. If this happens, just let your hypnotherapist know and they will talk it through with you, adjusting the process in a way that will feel more comfortable and secure.

Another very common question about hypnosis!

Hypnosis works by reprogramming the subconscious mind through positive suggestion while you are in a state of comfortable, focused relaxation.

Here are a few reasons why hypnosis works so well:

First, through the process of hypnosis you learn skills to become more aware of your bodyโ€™s internal response to your environment, so you can catch and manage those responses before they become overwhelming. This is the difference between reacting (and reverting to ingrained negative habits) and responding (or carefully choosing how to think or behave based on the highest good of the situation).

Second, when you are in hypnosis, your subconscious mind becomes 200x more receptive to suggestion. This means you can learn new, positive ways of thinking and behaving much faster than you can when in your normal waking consciousness.

Over the years, your subconscious mind has most likely picked up negative behaviors. While it took many years to develop these behaviors, they can be overcome in just a few short weeks with hypnosis.

For example, after 15 years at your job you have trained yourself to check email first thing in the morning, putting yourself into reactive mode by responding to other people's concerns. Now you'd like to change this habit and focus on a morning routine to set yourself up for success. Hypnosis can help you change a 15-year pattern in a matter of weeks.

Or letโ€™s say that when you're working on a big project, you have trained yourself to stay up into all hours of the morning, despite the fact that you find yourself foggy and not at your best the next day. These harmful behavioral patterns can be eliminated and healthy alternatives instilled in the process of hypnosis.

Finally, good hypnotists foster accountability, assist you in reaching your goals, and help you feel supported in your decision to make positive changes. You can't get that with a generic hypnosis video or recording.

Does hypnosis work?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions about hypnosis. There is too much research to show the efficacy of hypnosis to list it all here.

For instance, an article posted in Stanford Medicine described hypnotherapy this way: "...hypnosis sessions have been shown to be effective in lessening chronic pain, the pain of childbirth and other medical procedures; treating smoking addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder; and easing anxiety or phobias. "

Hypnosis has also been demonstrated to be an effective tool in assisting with reaching personal goals like improving performance on tests, in sports, and in social and business situations. Furthermore, hypnosis has been shown to enhance our ability to change our habits and make positive strides in any area of our lives. It also helps train us in how to relax, decrease our stress, and overcome fears and phobias.

In addition to all these benefits, hypnosis can help in the area of emotional health by improving our ability to manage depression, anger, or anxiety. If that wasnโ€™t enough, we can also work on relationship issues with hypnosis, increasing our capacity for intimacy and improving our communication skills.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Let's keep this simple. Hypnosis is a state of calm, yet focused, relaxation.

Hypnosis feels like daydreaming while resting in comfortable chair.

Have you ever found yourself just staring off into space for a few moments, not thinking about anything? That is similar to hypnosis.

Have you ever gone to the couch after a hard day of work and just sat there, letting yourself feel a little rest and relaxation? That is similar to hypnosis.

Have you ever woken up in the morning, but kept your eyes closed to rest just a little while longer? That is similar to hypnosis.

In the process of clinical hypnosis we will gently move the level of alertness to a more relaxed frame of mind. There is no out of body experience or going to some alternate dimension. It is only relaxation, something you may not get much of these days, but that you've experienced many times before.
