Tonight at 9:00 CST I will debut the title track from my forthcoming album, The Renaissance Is Over. It’s a ten and a half minute epic, so bring some popcorn.

Icymi, my next album, The Renaissance is Over, will be released February 14, 2024. If you like my heavier, proggier side, then this one’s for you.

What’s up, everyone. I’m still here…lurking. Been taking a break from social media after finishing initial recording of my next album. There is still quite a bit of work to be done, but I’m excited for you all to hear it! Stay tuned.

Currently working on my next project. Thinking sometime early next year.

Neil Howell, rocker sortant de nulle part qui publie son 8e album depuis 2020, le 11e en tout; un son couvrant le rock-stades des 80, le prog 70, le death metal et le folk; musique d’art pour puristes, son futuriste, creuset musical à part pour fans d’Opeth, Devin Townsend entre autres.
«Welcome to the Desert»: rock grunge, hard country sur fond de vent, distorsion musicale intensive. «The Cruellest Month»: intro minimaliste, mélancolique sur un Nick Cave avec violon sombre; riff et batterie puis break pour te tirer l’oreille comme au sortir d’un col; un metal rock moderne agrémenté de growl opéthien final. «Handful of Dust»: arpège glacé monolithique, percus jazzy à la Leonard Cohen, à écouter seul au bord d’un lac comme un titre de Jeff Buckley. «Clairvoyant»: intro progressive ouf, non ça part d’un coup sur du hard heavy death ou speed; pauvres progueux qui vont écouter; ah jazzy à la Zappa puis Opeth, Mr. Bungle vitaminé, le riff bien violent. «Winter Dawn»: pour la ballade chaleureuse, latente, d’où l’on attend une envolée heavy à la Devin qui ne viendra pas. «Nothing» me renvoie aux White Stripes, à Nirvana pour l’accroche violente de l’air rock épuré, consensuel au départ; étonnant.
«Hurry Up»: entame à la Alice In Chains en plus d’un riff Megadeth, solo des 80 vif et usité, désopilant où la voix est presque oubliée. «Unreal City»: rock mélodique censé calmer les étriers et autres enclumes puis «Entering the Whirlpool» ambiance progressive ouf, musique de chambre, riff des Metallica secouez-vous! Un instrumental caché progressiste immense qui sème le doute favorablement. «With Like Patience»: retour au country désespérément beau, solitaire, tourmenté. «Falling Towers» rechange de braquet avec un growl digne d’Opeth sur un volcan en ébullition; riff aride venant d’outre-tombe, sur la voix mâle d’Epica très expressive; la folie de Devin Townsend n’est pas loin. «Upon the Shore»: plus doux, aérien, ballade romantique-dépressive, vocal d’Angela son épouse, arpège guitare éthéré et «The Fisher King» final troublant, mélange de tous les genres amplifiant la progression avec un riff vitaminé; metal rock alternatif diffus.
Neil Howell a donc sorti un best of sur un album, mélangeant du vent musical de sonorités extrêmes, folk, metal, alternatif et rock; passages d’acoustique au riff metal puis mélodie à la brutalité death; des textes inspirés d’Eliot traitant l’isolement, l’impuissance pour une fin meilleure; mélodies envoûtantes bourrées d’émotion sur l’esprit rock. Singulier, inclassable.
