"Astray" will be out in 2 weeks and I can't be more content than ever and so I want to take this moment and talk a little bit about the concept of the album which is substantially biographical.
"Astray" is a tragic tale of a youthful man and his encounter with formidable portions of his own personality which he eventually succumbs to. The man has an inherent tendency to gravitate towards darkness that he explores more and more as we progress through the songs. The central themes are the protagonist’s identity crisis and the need for belonging. Every thought and every motive of the man is subconsciously spurred by that. There is a 'lovecraftian' sense of impending doom throughout which only becomes stronger as the songs become darker.
The album translates motifs of fear, melancholy and escape through a bed of sounds laden with reverbs, echoes, pounding drums, dreamy synths and bold guitar sounds. The songs transition from a happy to a desolate place in a dramatic fashion so it doesn't matter if you listen to/prefer a certain genre of music. This is for each and every ear.
