Years ago, I always thought healthy eaters were just trying to loose weight. Sure that’s one reason to eat healthy! But there are tons of other reasons to make nutritional changes. After struggling with acne for 15 years and no success in treating it conventionally, I turned to holistic healing for answers. My entire view of healthy eating changed at this point, when I saw my skin transform by simply implementing nutrition and lifestyle changes. As a health and wellness coach, I’m able to work with clients around their specific needs. But my specialization is working with acne clients. The main objective here is focusing on acne as an inflammatory condition that stems from the inside, rather than just a topical issue. For example, your gut and digestive system are strongly linked to the health of your skin. Many people don’t know this! If there’s inflammation in your digestive tract or a problem in your gut, there’s a big chance it will show up in the way of acne. If your gut has a condition that is not allowing nutrients to be absorbed properly, or your gut health is poor and therefore leaking nutrients, bacteria and toxins into the bloodstream- that can absolutely effect the health of your skin, especially if your skin is your vulnerable area (if you’re acne prone, like me!) In my 15 year struggle with breakouts, I never had a doctor ask about my nutrition or lifestyle. It was usually a quick appointment where they examined my skin topically, then wrote me a prescription. I left most appointments in tears not only because of the constant frustration, but because I didn’t feel seen or heard. I knew there was something missing. It took me years to realize that this traditional approach just wasn’t working for me. My acne was chronic, meaning, a long term condition that was stemming from an imbalance within. If your story sounds similar, this is the reason why all of the skincare in the world could not clear your acne. If you have been trying to clear your skin for a while and nothing has worked, it’s likely because there is something in your body that needs to be addressed! Skincare only addresses the inflammation on the OUTSIDE, so that in COMBINATION with the internal work is what will change the health of our skin long term. Does this resonate? ❤️

Have you ever wondered why you breakout when you’re feeling stressed? That’s because we release hormones like cortisol and androgen that create an inflammatory response within our body, leading to excess oil and skin cells at the pore. ✋ I think the key to really reducing stress and anxiety through movement is to choose exercise that you love. Often times we think we need to do this intense workout or go on a run. And maybe for some of us, that feels good. For me personally, that can create more anxiety because it doesn’t feel right. It actually creates more of an adrenaline rush when I’m already feeling like I’m on speed. 🤸♀️ So for me, lowering my stress level through a workout means doing lighter exercise or going on a good walk. Forcing ourselves into this intense workout or putting pressure on ourselves will only create more anxiety in the long run. Does this make sense? I enjoy walking through my neighborhood or searching up a you tube workout at home that aligns with my mood that day. If we find enjoyment the process and look forward to exercise, this will keeps us motivated! So excited to try this fresh juice today, inspired by a recent recipe I learned about through IIN 🙌

This combination is great for skin health, boosting hydration + electrolytes, plus gives your body a ton of vitamins and minerals.

🥒 1 chopped cucumber
🥝 1 kiwi peeled and chopped
🌱 1 inch fresh ginger
💧 2 cups coconut water (be sure to get one that is pure and LOW IN SUGAR!)
🥬 1 handful of spinach (optional)
🧊 Handful of ice

Use a juicer or high powered blender to blend until smooth! This makes about 3 cups of juice and will last in your refrigerator for a few days! 🙌
