As a “veteran” of the UN Climate Talks, and , I have been watching closely what is going on in the news and by eyewitness accounts of friends and colleagues on the ground in Glasgow.

*** Please note these are my personal thoughts which have been informed by my past experiences of COPs and what I have heard from friends and colleagues on the ground in Glasgow.***

🌎 The COPs have notoriously been inclusive, a problem that is only more clear this year at . This is clear with Indigenous communities worldwide that have been ignored and continued to be despite being tokenized.

🌍 Big businesses, ESPECIALLY the oil and gas industries, have a massive influence at these events. Let's take , for example. It was hosted in Poland largest producer of coal in the , and several coal companies sponsored that event.

🌏 Greta is right when she said is a failure. Not much has changed on reducing emissions or bold plans to address . Many of the wealthiest and most powerful nations in the world are in denial of the severity of climate change. Often, they are unwilling to support other countries, usually poorer, dealing with the effects of this crisis, something I witness at . It's just a continuation of the same .

Hi Friends and Listeners!! It's been a WHILE since I shared anything here about Sustaining with Shana (SWS). So if you're new or popping by again, here's a quick introduction before I share some exciting news!

I'm Shana, the face behind the voice you hear on the SWS podcast. After struggling to find my own voice, I started this platform to provide a space for the voiceless in my community around sustainability and climate change. Together we as a community have shared some amazing stories.

But then life got in the way. Season two of the podcast was set to be released earlier this year but got derailed several times. I moved to a new state, started a new job, and began to think critically about the life and longevity of the SWS platform.

After many months of planning and careful thought, SWS is officially in the rebranding phase and will get a complete facelift. The final episode of season 1 will be released in the coming months before a tentative date is announced for the unavailing of the second season and the relaunching of SWS.

I'm excited to see where the podcast and platform are headed, not just in the next few months but in a few years. So stay tuned for more info about the relaunching of Sustaining with Shana!

Glad you're here, and always thanks for listening!!

xo Shana

This afternoon we released our latest episode “How Can Regenerative Agriculture Help Fight the Climate Crisis?”

In the second half of this special two-part series, Shana sat down with Diana Martin. The Rodale Institute’s Director of Communications & Marketing.

In this episode, they dove more into what regenerative agriculture is. Together, they discussed the comprehensive white paper that Rodale published in September 2020 titled “Regenerative Agriculture and the Soil Carbon Solution. The report assessed how the agricultural industry is a part of the problem and solution of the climate crisis. As mentioned in the report, Diana explains how carbon sequestration (the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere) can be a vital tool.
Shana also explored more about the concept of regenerative agriculture with Diana. Diana explained the differences and similarities it has to organic farming and how regenerative agriculture is a new and popular way to approach agriculture. An approach that we hope is here to stay.

If you would like to learn more about the special study that was done on Regenerative Agriculture, you can visit Rodale’s Educational Resources Tab. You can learn more about Rodale by visiting them at RodaleInstitute.org. You can also follow Rodale on Facebook and Instagram.
