Peanut butter, unless there's a known allergy to peanuts, is a favorite among kids that tranfers into adulthood. This readily available sandwich spread is said to be nutritious and loaded with protein, vitamins, minerals, and natural fats, with the exception of some unhealthy sugars and additives that are often mixed into unnatural, commercial peanut butter products.
Though generally a favorite with children, as stated, I hated peanut butter sandwiches as a kid, since it was neither creamy nor pleasant to eat as later versions of the product that came to market. Aside from the lack of creaminess, old fashioned peanut buttter was more of a childhood hazard than a treat, as it would stick to the roof of your mouth and would require a bit a manipulation to dislodge it with the tip of your tongue, to then continue chewing before swallowing the glop while hoping you wouldn't choke on it.
It was only in my teens, therefore, that I finally developed an affinity for peanut butter after watching some convincing television commercials featuring creamy, smooth, easy to eat peanut butter that didn't stick to the roof of your mouth.
As a health conscious adult, I generally read product labels. So when buying peanut butter, I check to see if it's made from just peanuts or peanuts with a minimal amount of added sea salt for flavor. And no added sugars nor oils.
The oil in natural peanut butter after a while tends to separate from the solids and float to the top. It therefore needs to be either mixed back into the product or poured into a jar and kept for cooking purposes, if one so desires.
Unnatural peanut butter, however, does not contain natural peanut oil that separates to the top, since the oil was first removed by the manufacturer, then subjected to hydrogenation where hydrogen gas is pumped into the oil to harden it. The more gas that's pumped into the product, the harder the oil becomes, and the more damaging to one's health. Once hydrogenated, the natural oil is then converted from a healthy, natural, highly fluid, unsaturated, non-transfat oil, to an unhealthy, hardened, saturated, transfat, blood vessel clogging oil. After hardening the oil, the manufacturer mixes it back into the peanut butter product.
Aside from stopping the oil from separating out of the product, the process of hydrogenation or hardening of the natural oil preserves peanut butter oil for an unnatural length of time by preventing it from spoiling or going rancid. But it certainly doesn't preserve good health, since it has been proven that consumed hydrogenated oils increase bad cholesterol in the body and are known to clog up blood vessels, leading to heart attacks, strokes, inflammation, and other health problems, while at the same time decreasing good cholesterol.
Seeing the deleterious, health robbing effects hydrogenated oils have on the body, it's best to avoid fully hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated cooking oils and edible products of any sort containing them, including margerines, shortening, and of course unnatural peanut butter.

In conclusion, when it comes to using either lemons or limes, it depends on the situation at hand.
