UBE Launches Lenten-based Easter Appeal
The Union of Black Episcopalians is pleased to announce a new Lenten reflection and response series created by UBE’s Fundraising and Development Committee. Entitled “Digging Deep … Rising High”, this series invites us to look deeply inward and see how the work and ministry of UBE has and is helping The Episcopal Church to rise to higher heights.
As we prepare for the annual celebration of the resurrection of our Lord, each week we will share a scripture lesson and guided reflection from the journey of Jesus to Calvary. Each week, the series also will focus on a branch of the work of UBE.
According to the Rev. Canon Wilmot Merchant, II, UBE Fundraising Committee Chair, “This Lenten-based Easter Appeal will ask readers to consider the ways in which your own life responds to the way, truth and life of Jesus and will share the ways in which UBE has and is responding as well.”
Each week ends by asking the UBE family and friends to make or set aside a Lenten offering to donate to the continued work of UBE when the Easter Appeal concludes on Holy Saturday.
How to keep up with the monies you will set aside? You can do so by writing a figure on a piece of paper each week and placing those pieces of paper in a jar to be “cashed in” or redeemed on Holy Saturday. You could write a check each week and hold onto those checks until Holy Saturday when you would then place all the checks in an envelope and mail to UBE’s headquarters. You can even write down a figure each week and wait until Holy Saturday when you would make an online donation reflecting the combined total of your weekly set asides. We envision Digging Deep to Rise High as a weekly discipline of reflection, repentance, and the sacrifice of giving.
Weekly reflections and responses can be found on UBE’s website at https://www.ube.org/Resources/easter-appeal-2023.html.
Join us, won’t you, as we dig deep that we might rise even higher in our service to God, The Episcopal Church, and all oppressed and disenfranchised people, especially those of brown and black hue.
Expectantly yours,
UBE Fundraising Committee
