GEOGRAPHIC HISTORY:

GEOGRAPHY:
-Guayabal is located on the slopes of the Miravalles volcano between the towns of Aguas Claras de Upala and Guayabo de Bagaces.
-To the south, approximately 1 km from the school, the border between the provinces of Alajuela and Guanacaste is marked.
-It is a rural town, with a geographical extension of 15 km and a height of 600 m. s. no. m.
-The amount of current population is approximately 400 people.

HISTORY:
-Guayabal was founded around the year 1950, previously it was the northern limit of a hacienda where there were vacant lands.
- Around this time the first settlers began to arrive, who were the families: Silvestre Marchena, Contreras López, Zúñiga Contreras and Gonzales Soto.
-In the beginning, a gentleman from the town named Víctor Lacayo baptized the community with the name of Guayabal, due to the abundance of guavas that characterized the area. This gentleman lived in this community for many years. In those years, Don Víctor lived by raising pigs and farming.
-In 1959, Silvestre Salazar, an inhabitant of the town, donated the land to build the school and the town circle.
-Later, Mr. Silvestre Salazar considered changing the name to Carmen Guayabal, which is the name the town currently has.

Language:
In this area, it is common to hear certain expressions that give a distinctive identity to the place, whether they are popular words or phrases. As for example "Caray", which is used to express surprise; "Naide", as a synonym for "nobody"; and "Nomásitico", which means "close here". In Guanacaste, bagged ice creams are known as "chirisvicos", while in this place they are called "apretados". Also, when going out to look for beers, the expression "go for some frosty" is used. On the other hand, when night falls, the expression "the mantle fell" is used to refer to darkness.

ART;
In this town people perform different types of food, dances and traditions that are native to the area.

MUSIC:
Don Juan López López was not one of the first inhabitants of the town, he liked to sit in a corner of the school to play the guitar to delight the citizens with his songs. He died at the age of 98 according to the date of birth of the civil registry, but relatives indicate that he really was between 105 and 110 years old when he died.

FOODS:
The pinto or gallo pinto is the most consumed food of the population, they could eat pinto for breakfast, lunch and dinner. On weekends they have a tradition to do something different to eat like chicken rice, corn rice and beef soup.
Every December 24, families get together to make pork and chicken tamales. Also, since it is a dairy farming area, some families make curds, cheese, and custard for their consumption. Also during Easter they make donuts and tanelas.

DANCES:
On some occasions they perform dances in the community hall and in school activities the children dress in typical costumes there are dances, some typical food.

RELIGION:
If you are in Guayabal we can tell you that in the town there is only one temple which is the Catholic temple whose name is El Carmen Church, whose patron saint is the Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint festivities for a long time were not celebrated again, as In most communities there are different branches of the Christian religion, which families attend. Among these branches we can find Catholicism, Evangelicals and Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the other religions don't have a temple so they go to the surrounding villages.

ECONOMY:
The population obtains its economic income mainly from activities related to agriculture, where they mainly produce sweet chili, beans, cucumber and tomato; and livestock, both in the production of meat and milk. There are also people who work in commerce, buying and selling agricultural products, grocery stores, as well as the tourist area, where tours to the Miravalles volcano stand out. In addition, some people work in the Miravalles Geothermal project, developed by the I.C.E.

POLICY:
In 1959, Mr. Silvestre Zalazar donated the land to build the school and the arena, they also have several associations such as the DINAECO development board that provides resources for the development of the community, they also have the association board of the school, where it administers the care and maintenance of the facilities and the duty to ensure that the institution is fully developed as well as possible.
Also, they have a sports board where it is in charge of holding championships and food sales to generate income, in addition the development board donates the cleaning of the square, not least to mention that they do not have a camera of tourism, it is worth mentioning that this community belongs to the municipality of Upala.
Finally, the community belongs to the Red Cross of Guayabo, by means of an agreement what was done with this community of Guayabal, since it is closer than Upala, it should be noted that it takes approximately 20 minutes for the ambulance to arrive in the event of an emergency, as well They have an ASADA as a water supply system, taking into account that it was founded in 2009, before to date there was a rural aqueduct.
