Hope to see you there!
In honor of Mental Health Month, and in the name of healing for the Black community, we are excited to announce our first 6-week Introduction to Mindfulness series, starting this Thursday, May 16. This series will be offered by our Founder and Executive Director, Dr. Shacunda Rodgers, who has been a mindfulness practitioner for the last 18 years.
We will cover the foundational principles of mindfulness & meditation, practice within the safety of community, and learn how these strategies can help manage stress, ease overwhelm, strengthen resilience, and most importantly, support your healing journey.
This Intro to Mindfulness course for the Black community has been a dream for many years, and it is such a joy to see it come to fruition! If you're interested in learning more, feel free to connect with us here:

Thanks to 116 total donors, we were able to raise $17,888 during the Big Day of Giving! Because of this incredible community, we will be able to continue the work of providing a space for our people to heal. Thanks to each and every one of you who supported us. We really appreciate your generosity of heart.
Big Day of Giving is just two days away!
Since last May, we used Big Day of Giving funding to host 5 community healing events that served over 250 members of the Black community in Sacramento. We want to share some quotes from participants about the impact that these healing events have had, all thanks to donors like you!
"I gained joy in movement. I love this community. I always leave better than I came. The Holding Space Team shows us so much care, even down to the food they serve us. This space is a healing space for us to just be black without apology and in our full self.
“I left the retreat feeling free, light, feeling valued, seen and comfortable, confident in my own skin and how I move. I feel proud…and I feel peace and joy…Thank you for creating this opportunity and space to just be!”
"The program allowed each participant to share the deepest and suppressed feelings in an environment that was loving and understanding—one must experience the significance of this gathering to realize the power it holds to help our community heal the wounds of years of suppressed pain."
“I gained my power and belief in myself back.”
“I feel like it was an awakening in my soul. I was empowered to own my super power of love and kindness again.”
This healing is only possible because of you.
Our goal this year is to raise $50,000 to go toward our community healing offerings, and to expand our capacity to provide 1:1 mental health support. These are both big goals, but our desire is to provide culturally competent care for Black people, and it will take resources to meet these needs. We're gonna do all we can to show up for our people, and would be grateful for your support along the way.

Thanks, y'all, and please spread the word!
At Holding Space, we want to make healing accessible for all Black people in Sacramento. That's the only way healing is possible--together.
And you can help.
By supporting Holding Space during the Big Day of Giving, you will enable us to continue hosting these community-based healing offerings which directly improve the mental health, physical health, and spiritual wellbeing of the Black community in Sacramento. Our goal is to expand our work in order to reach more communities and touch more lives in the process. We hope you'll join us in our commitment to doing the work of healing generational trauma.
Big Day of Giving is on Thursday, May 2. You can support at any time between now and then. Click the link below to go on this healing journey with us:

LET'S SLOW THINGS DOWN. We are so excited to announce our next community offering. As summer begins to wind down, let's also slow down our minds, hearts, and bodies, and rest as we begin to usher in a new season. On Friday, September 1, we'll gather together in community as we reflect on our intentions for this next chapter ahead of us. We're also thrilled to be partnering with the talented and amazing Kemiko Tolon of , who will be leading us through a soulful sound bath by candlelight. Click the link in our bio to reserve your spot. Due to the size of the venue, seating is limited, as we are planning for a small and intimate circle for this gathering. We can't wait to hold space for you and with you.
All sold out for Sunday's gathering. Thanks to everyone who registered. We're so grateful for you.
A DAY OF REST + STILLNESS. Join us for our first in-person offering, where we will gather in community, take a collective pause, and create space to rest and restore our minds, hearts, and bodies. Together, we'll heal through the restorative practices of music, mindfulness, meditation, gentle stretching, journaling, and sound healing. This event is free of charge and open to persons of African Descent. A nourishing lunch will also be provided. Spots are limited, so reserve your space by clicking this link:
