The Surviving Through Story team has been quiet on social media as we have been very busy in the background developing our exciting Storysharing Online Practitioner and Tutor courses! More information coming very soon.

In the meantime, do check out Story Makers with Nikki, a fellow Storysharing Practitioner in the making who will be starting very exciting parent/baby classes using sensory story telling and story massage programme techniques here in Bath. Check out the contact details in the post for more information on the Autumn start date!

Hi everyone I’m Nikki and I’d like to tell you a bit about myself. I live in Bath with my family, I have been here for 3 years now and have a 7 yr old son who is great fun and keeps me very busy.

👩🏼‍🎓I trained as a primary school teacher back in 2004 and have been teaching ever since. I work part time in a gorgeous SEN school and will be spending my days off running Story Makers sessions.

🤩I have completed my makaton level 4 and I love the wonderful early interactions signing can bring to babies and young children. I have also completed the story massage course and I’m looking forward to sharing this beautiful approach with you.

🥁 I ran music groups for parents and babies- toddlers for two years and loved every session getting to know the families and seeing the little ones grow and develop.

📚I love running, cycling, music, swimming, reading, cups of tea and chatting!

⭐️ I’m looking forward to sharing stories with you and your families through singing, signing sensory props, massage and having fun with songs and instruments.

Autumn term is now open for bookings. Email me on [email protected] for information and to book your place xx

INVITATION DETAILS:

Surviving through Story: Changing our lives in a global crisis

Please join us at the launch of our website to share the COVID experiences of people with learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders, and of children and young people with special educational needs. So far, their stories have been missing during the pandemic. Their voices have not been heard. Help us to change this.

At the launch you will view the website and hear some short talks about the history of people with learning disabilities, and what is happening in our society now.

Our speakers include:
Baroness Sheila Hollins, Professor of Psychiatry of Learning Disabilities at St. George’s Hospital Medical School.
Pat Charlesworth, Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities, Hackney People First
Dr. Simon Jarrett, Editor Community Living magazine,
Dr. Jan Walmsley, Independent researcher

We need to change by learning from people with different needs and skills. They have so much to teach us about surviving through story.

This event is hosted by the Surviving through Story partnership:
Liz Tilley, Craig Hart and Sue Ledger, The Open University's Social History of Learning Disability Group
Nicola Grove, Independent researcher.
Katrina Arab and Flo Hopwood, Three Ways School
Beverley Dawkins and Kate Tokley, Generate.
It will be recorded so you can view it later if you are unable to attend - details will be on the website.

For today's souvenir, I am posting a link to the Zoom recording to our Multimedia Storytelling webinar with Professor David Messer of the Open University and Mascha Legel of Radboud University Nijmegen.

Professor David Messer showed us how the free app 'Our Story 2' can be used to develop personal stories and incorporate video, photo and sound clips.

Mascha Legel showed us how video recording from first person perspective could be used with personal stories.
