What HORRIBLE NEWS!!! One of my favorite guitar players of all time has left us!!! REST IN POWER GEORDIE WALKER!!! One of the biggest influences on me musically and vibe wise… UNMISTAKABLE SOUND and taste. Unforgettable Riffs for YEARS…I’m gutted. So lucky to have seen KJ so many times. UGH.

Titolo piu che mai esauriente per un bel vinile colorato in cui sono raccontate in musica le vicende della prima scena oscura di NYC. Storie di cassette, di sogni infranti, di suoni bui come quelli degli anfratti piu pericolosi della metropolitana della Grande Mela cosi come emerge sin dai vagiti delle tre canzoni proposte dagli SCARECROW (gruppo con voce femminile la cui ritmica spezzata mi ha ricordato soprattutto i primi X-Mal Deutschland). Notevole il salto di qualita proposto dalle due band successive, OF A MESH e THE NAKED AND THE DEAD. Entrambi "sinistrissimi," i primi (peraltro l'unico gruppo qui testimoniato che ai tempi riusci a pubblicare due EP in vinile) offrono un suono gotico molto vicino a quello di altre band americane dell'epoca (come Kommunity FK e Christian Death) ma diversificato da un uso malato del violino di gusto decisamente S*x Gang Children. I THE NAKED AND THE DEAD, tra i miei preferiti del sampler, sono il tipico esempio di un grande gruppo goth mancato: voce femminile, melodie macabre in bilico tra il goth di "Only Theatre of Pain" e il punk-dark degli Ausgang....stupendi! Ancora Ausgang (e di conseguenza Birthday Party) nelle influenze di base di THE CHILDREN'S ZOO e THE OCHRANA, mentre nei CONCRETE WITCHDOCTORS (dei pazzi!) si puo ascoltare tutto quello che va dal punk al post-punk, dal goth allo psychobilly. Un vinile unico, preziosissimo, tra l'altro arricchito da un booklet con la storia di tutte le band presentate, che non puo mancare nella discografia del "vero collezionista ed archeologo del goth." - Alex Daniele

"The opening track is Scarecrow’s “Blood in My Dreams,” an atmospheric gothic rock song that recalls Join Hands-era Siouxsie and the Banshees. The second track is a heavier, stompier number also by Scarecrow, a kind of strange cross between Siouxsie’s “Spellbound” and the UK gothy postpunk (or so-called “positive punk”) of bands like Brigandage or Blood and Roses. Lots of flanger effects on the guitar and tribal, heavy-on-the-toms drumming, as was common in the UK’s dark postpunk scene at the time."
