"Reciprocal inhibition describes the relaxation of muscles on one side of a joint to accommodate contraction on the other side".
To put this process into good use to help reduce neck and shoulder blade tightness, gently lower your shoulders during repetitive tasks like computer work, gardening or carrying heavy loads.
Hi guys, I'm excited to be starting my next physio adventure with 'Integrate Physiotherapy' next week at the North Lakes and Aspley clinics.
🏃♂️ Planning on starting up or getting back into running? 🏃♂️
Here are some helpful tips from the team at Integrate Physiotherapy to get you started on your journey.
Tip 1: 🥇 Start Slow and Steady; Running is a marathon not a race, so take it slow and steady from the start. A common injury seen in runners new and old is overuse injuries such as Shin Splits. By slowly increasing the distance you run by 10% per week you can see continual improvements and continue to run with a decreased likelihood of experiencing overuse injuries.
Tip 2: 💧 Cool Downs; It's important to perform proper cool downs following your run, this helps to improve recovery following your run, and keep you flexible and nimble. Hydration is an important factor following a run as well to ensure that you restore the fluid lost from sweating. 💧
Tip 3: Not Over-Striding: A common mistake new runners make is landing with their foot in front of their body. This slows down their stride and increases the load experienced through the lower limb. By foot striking under the body this helps with maintaining speed and decreasing impact loads.
If you have any issues with your running, or want a comprehensive screen in preparation for your return to running, contact us for a consultation and we can help you become a fitter and healthier you.

Levator scapulae muscles can get tight, tired and weak easily when they're used incorrectly. This can cause headaches and neck pain, particularly for office workers after long hours at the desk.
Keep a lookout for my instructional video on how you can self treat this little gem at home.
Happy Belated New Year !!
Keep an eye out for my 'Stretch, Treat & Stengthen' video series coming this month.

Happy New Year Team.
Merry Christmas everybody !!
Thanks, and welcome everyone.
Glutes guys !! I see so many patients with low back pain because of lazy glutes.
Practice activating them while sitting down to get them started, then continue to squeeze as you're standing.
