Attention families, we have an INCREDIBLE opportunity to share from the Arizona Department of Education and Arizona Department of Health Services for youth and young adults who have an IEP or 504 plan for the upcoming IDEA conference! Apply for a scholarship today, you will not want to miss this!
Who can apply for a scholarship:
• Youth/young adult between the ages of 14 and 26 who have a documented disability
• Family members of a student with an IEP or 504 Plan
• Personal assistant who attends with a student or family member
Scholarships will cover the conference registration fee for each recipient as well as lodging and mileage for eligible recipients. Additional, important information is listed in the application.

Gloria Vidal is a huge support for families raising children with special needs. As a bilingual Family Support Specialist at Raising Special Kids (RSK) in Yuma, AZ, she brings over a decade of experience to the table. She is a mom of three wonderful children, Bianca, Isaac, and her late son, Joshua, Her journey in the world of disabilities started when her own sons, who were diagnosed with autism. This ignited her mission to navigate the complexities of special education, healthcare, and community services, not just for her family, but for others in Yuma County and across Arizona.
Gloria's dedication led her to create a homeschooling program tailored to her sons' needs, teaching them speech, literacy, and independence. Through her journey, she emerged as a Parent Leader, channeling her passion into supporting families facing similar challenges.
Disabilty Rights Arizona is hosting the 13th annual African American Conference on Disabilities. This in person event has workshops and resources that addresses the intersection of disability and race. There are a few scholarship opportunities for families to attend.

Meet Dolores, our Family Support Specialist - habla español! In her 24 years of experience advocating for Spanish-speaking families, Dolores brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to her role. She has served on various advisory councils and boards, including the Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council and the Arizona Spina Bifida Association's Board of Directors. Dolores is also active in her community, serving as president of a Block Watch Association for eleven years and volunteering with multiple organizations such as the Maryvale Police Department and the Neighborhood Services Department.
In addition to her community involvement, Dolores is a devoted mother of four children, one of whom has Spina Bifida, Chiari Malformation II, Neurogenic Bladder, Hypertension, Hydrocephalus, and ADD. Through her personal experiences and professional expertise, Dolores is passionate about empowering families to advocate for their children. She loves providing valuable information and support to families, knowing that it can have a lasting impact on their lives. Dolores is committed to making a difference and serving as a beacon of support for families.
Registration is open for our 2024 group lessons!
We will add more start dates throughout the week. Currently, we just have lessons starting on 4/22 up on our site. We will post 5/6 and 5/20 sessions this week.
Our current pool location has changed - we are now located at Marcus Pool (near Yuma High). The address is 545 W. 5th St. We will not be using The Complex pool this summer.
Rebecca Treas will be with us this spring to teach lessons. Laiza Smith will also be teaching group and private lessons.
4/22 Start Date Classes:
Coach Rebecca:
3:30-4pm - Big Tots (2-3 year olds)
4-4:30pm - Preschool 1 (3-5 year olds)
4:30-5pm - Class TBD
Coach Laiza:
Learn to Swim Level 1: 3:50-4:20pm (6+ year olds)
Learn to Swim Level 2: 4:25-4:55pm (6+ that have passed LTS1)

Local swim academy offers swim classes for those on the spectrum - KYMA Yuma Aqua Academy has been around for two years and offers swim classes not limited to those on the spectrum saying they felt there was a need in the community.
