Sunshine Coast family of four living full time in our ZoneRV caravan travelling around this awesome
Well that’s a wrap for our drive around this great country of ours.... this year. We arrived back on the Sunshine Coast to surprise some friends and family at a 40th Birthday. It was a great weekend and we are now easing back into a stationary life by spending a few weeks in another caravan park😜 What a year we have had!! We are looking forward to some more trips to the Cape and NT chasing barra in 2022!
Some good rain falls of 100mm+ out here in central Qld and the green shoots are starting to sprout up!!
We took a sharp right hand turn after Townsville and decided to head into our fave place, the Qld Outback!!! Can you guess where we are??
Pink Hollywood💞💞 Raising money for Breast Cancer Research and wishing I was with my tribe Thankyou so much to for the ripper sessions this week🤙🏻 **kcancer🎀
I love this time of day!! Everyone is outside cooking their dinners, the kids are all playing together and the adults are sharing a drink and a yarn! Ya can’t beat it👌
Ripper Sunday sesh yesty at The Lions Den hotel🍻🍻 We spent the day alternating between floundering in the cool waters of the creek and listening to the live music up at the bar while knocking the froth off a few🍻 Lucky there is a campground out the back as we’d all had quite a few🤣 Great to catch up with ‘Mustang’ Sally and her partner Stan👍🏼 Have you even been to TNQ if you don’t stop here?🤙🏻
Luckily I heard this start to whack away in the chassis rail before it totally let go! We had just finished a couple of hundred km of terrible gravel roads and not sure if we cut the sidewall or it had just had enough. 40,000km around oz and the first bit of tyre damage. Let’s see if will stand by their warranty!
If you’re travelling across the Savannah Way keep an eye out for our mate Anthony Hill or Ant for short😜 He’s somewhere between Hells Gate and Normanton👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers to Aaron and Rodney at Arnhem Autos for fitting the cruiser in for a service while we are here in Nhulunbuy!! Couple of Sunny Coast lads and they done a great job👍🏼 Look up if you need work done up here! Complimentary stubby holder for the win🍻🍻Arnhem Autos
Riley’s turn today to catch dinner! He had a busy morning landing a small mackerel and a small coral trout. The cod gave him a good fight and then we thought he had a nice barra on but it was a filthy big barracuda!! 4 crab pots destroyed as well🤬
Today we took a drive out to the Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Centre. It is the Indigenous community controlled art centre of Northeast Arnhem Land located in Yirrkala, a small Aboriginal community, approximately 15km east of Nhulunbuy and 700km east of Darwin. The centre doesn’t look like much from the outside but once you enter, holy wow!!The detail in these artworks is phenomenal and there were some paintings underway while we were there which was cool to see. The last two pics are actually air cell foil insulation that has been cut to make the design!!!
Fresh Merch!!!
Thanks to Dane the legend for hooking the whole fam up with some cool new fishing shirts, stubby holders & stickers🤙🏻Just in time for Arnhem Land🍻 If ya looking for a Father’s Day pressie for ya fishing Dad, have a look at these guys site👍🏼
Where ya been?? *toutofem
My first Barra!!!! Today was all about getting Riley is first ever Barra. 10 years old and he ticked it off the list at Shady Camp NT🤙🏻 Caught on a dirty old drop bear slick rig too😂 He then went on to land his first threadfin salmon as well!! Dad dropped 2 barra one of which was a good one😢 Stoked to be there with him and it’s something he will never forget🤙🏻
I always give a shout out to good gear and service!! Boomerangz🤙🏻🤙🏻 Hands down the best thongs i have had. I bought a pair at Christmas time and the straps finally let go last week. I glued them back together and jumped online to order some more and found they have a lifetime warranty on the straps!! I ordered another pair of thongs and Brad the legend threw in 3 extra pairs of straps so I should be good for at least the next 3-4 years🤙🏻🤙🏻Check em out if you are sick of busting pluggers🤙🏻🤙🏻
Road Trip!!
We decided on a road trip from Kununurra over the weekend which turned into a 1250km round trip😯 We had been warned away from the bungles due to the road in being super rough but we’ve never shied away from a challenge💪🏼and once again the grader had been busy smoothing the corrugations before us👌🏻We did echidna and mini palm on the first day before setting up the swags and heading up to the lookout to catch the epic sunset and full moon rise😍 Next day we attacked cathedral gorge and couldn’t resist a chopper flight over the whole area. Just wicked🙌🏾 We then headed south through Halls Creek😳and hit the Tanami road for 137km of mostly smooth gravel. Wolfe creek was a 300,000 year old hole in the ground and although awesome to see didn’t exactly get the heart racing! The movie however😬
Today we said goodbye to Western Australia and hello again Northern Territory!! We crossed the SA/WA border way back in March and have had an absolute blast doing the entire WA coast from Margaret River to Honeymoon Bay. Way too many highlights to list and sooo many fellow travellers we have crossed paths with👍🏻 Now to explore the entire top end and catch a barra or two🤙🏻🍻
Wyndham to Kununurra
Leaving El Questro we headed up Wyndham way stopping in to have a look at the Grotto and the Prison BOAB tree. We decided to just stick up on food and beer at Wyndham and not stay in town so headed out to Parry Creek farm. Great choice, with some grass sites, a pool and a billabong holding a few crocs. I found a couple of rat Barra in here on a surface frog. It was a great place to unwind and sit still after the rattling we endured on the Gibb road. Nice drive down the dirt into Kununurra with the token shots of the rig going over Ivanhoe Crossing👌🏻👌🏻
El Questro - El Questro gorge.
What a way to finish our epic Gibb River journey! I have wanted to come to El Questro since I was a teenager and it was a good feeling driving in here! Although it was super busy compared to our previous couple of weeks there was plenty of space and lots to see and do. This was probably the trickiest hike we have done so far. Non stop rock hopping and scrambling over large boulders for the entire 7.6km round trip. A few falls had to be overcome to reach the Ferny pool and stunning falls at the finish🤙🏻who else loves the sound of running water?
Honeymoon Bay- Part 2
The second half of our epic journey up to this Kimberley Paradise! Enjoy🤙🏻
Part 1 of our adventure up through Kalumburu to the very tip of the north west Kimberley.
What can I say!!! We found paradise. The road up from King Edward camp to Kalumburu had only opened to high clearance 4wd towing a couple of weeks earlier. Permits were required and so was a quality car and caravan as the road was in pretty bad shape. We passed broken down cars and camper trailers that had been left until tow trucks could be organised. Quotes of $3-$5k to get you out of there if your insurance wouldn’t!! We had planned to stay 4 nights here but ended up staying 8 and if we didn’t run out of food and beer😆 we would still be there. I have vowed to go back again next year for longer! Who’s tagging along?🤙🏻
Gibb River 3rd stop- We packed up early and hit the driveway out which seemed to have deteriorated in the 2 days we had been there. It took nearly 2hrs to do the 45km back to the main road! The creeks also seemed a little deeper when crossing. Plenty of traffic! Once back on the Gibb we pointed Migaloo towards Silent Grove camp ground which gives access to the amazing Dalmanyi(Bell Gorge) This area is in the middle of the King Leopold Ranges and is simply stunning! We quickly unhitched and after 10km of more corrugations we were on the 2km hike down to Bell Gorge! This waterfall drops 150m over sandstone rocks and is a magnificent sight while taking a dip in the cool waters below. This is another must do along the Gibb 👌🏿 Another night around the fire stargazing and eating toasties from the jaffle iron🤙🏾
We packed up and headed for Mount Hart wilderness lodge. We tagged along with . This station stay is in the heart of the King Leopold Ranges. The driveway in off the Gibb is approx 45km of winding, rocky, corrugated road with a dozen or so creek crossings. It took a bit over an hour to arrive at the homestead and we had no problems towing our 20.6 off-road van in. The homestead offers a bush bar and restaurant with pizzas or fish and chips on the menu. Coffees in the morning too but people just remember where you are! When you can’t get your double shot almond milk piccolo, don’t abuse the staff and leave a bad review! You can use the free washing machines and $5 for some dial up speed wifi😝
After a quick run along the airstrip and back we spent the entire day exploring the gorges and swimming holes around the property. The 3 main ones are all worth a swim and Dollerite Gorge was our favourite. In hindsight the swimming holes weren’t worth the long drive in. We cut a large pile of firewood and had a great sunset with a few tins next to the fire while the Steers damper baked away. There’s no besting a fresh damper in the bush👌🏻 No surprises everyone was in bed early🥱
Here we go!!!
Boab Prison Tree and the Longest cattle trough. Quick stop to check this out before we hit the Gibb🤙🏻
What could possibly go wrong😳😳
Here we are again!!! Never get tired of these sunsets🤙🏻🤙🏻
This happened today!!! So now we are getting up barra country I thought it time we got ourselves a tinny to take on the top end!! Luckily for us the are heading home and wanted to offload their near new setup! Even better that their Ute is exactly the same as mine🤙🏻 The barra aren’t gonna know what’s hit them now🎣🤙🏻🤙🏻
Riley came out chasing a mackerel today and ended up in the fight of his life! With a little bit of help from Dad and some good driving by Dan he landed his biggest fish to date. Father and son both stoked🤙🏻🤙🏻
This place😍😍
D and B had a day out exploring the bay at Gumbanan. Plenty of undersize coral trout and cod plus a beautiful eating platinum snapper for Dan. 🤙🏻
I’m not gonna lie, it wasn’t easy getting these rigs out onto the beach at Barred Creek but they performed faultlessly!! We have some fancy new pinstriping but mate it was worth it to spend a few nights in paradise🤙🏻
Few muddies in the bucket today!! @ Barred Creek
This is what it’s all about!! Have a look at the lineup of families all enjoying an epic arvo on the beach!! Kids making friends and memories and adults making life long friends🤙🏻🤙🏻
The first frill neck lizard I’ve ever come across!!! I was too chicken to grab him too😂😂
Arvo’s on Cable Beach!! We are loving the casual catch ups down on the beach in Broome. Park the Ute wherever and watch the waves roll in while the sun sets over drink and a chat with some of the other cool families we have met along the way! Soooo many kids all having a ball🤙🏻🤙🏻
@ Cable Beach
Ya can’t come to Broome without a visit to the great man Malcolm Douglas’ croc farm!!! I grew up watching his documentaries and it is so good to be out here doing, seeing and going to the places I saw him at!! A true Aussie legend🤙🏻 @ Broome, Western Australia
We have certainly covered some territory since we left home in January! We still have some epic country to go yet also👍IMO it only started to get really good when we left Carnarvon. Looking forward to the next couple of months taking in Dampier Peninsula especially barred and willie creek areas with our friends The Websters🤙🏻The Gibb River road and on to Kununurra
Absolute, arrogant people!! And after I have a go at them they tell me to get over it!! I hope they like my n**e singing tonight until 1.30am😜😜
