🎧 At Emerson College, Carolyn Kruse & I hosted a weekly countdown, even got my pal Sunny Joe White (KISS-108) to call in one day. Kruser is retiring after 31 years with the same Boston station, an amazing feat in radio.

🎤 During that time, I happily bounced to 7 stations with "The Lost 45s" and am about to host the 40th annual Labor Day Top 100 as I head into year 43 of the program!

Wayne and Murriane are off, Anita Bonita gave her last words on the air this evening, Steve Scott left last week, so the talent schedule is unclear for tomorrow. I think it’s safe to assume WCBS will be shutting off the lights to the newsroom tomorrow night, the weekend schedule appears to be on tape, as the ol timers would say.

As Howard Stern’s first words after signing off at WXRK rock at Sirius “we are the last of a dying breed” - those words nearly 19 years later ring so true to another ol Infinity station.
After the events today at WCBS Newsradio (tomorrow appears to be a weekend schedule on a Friday) what I heard today has been extremely eerie and sad to hear on the ol 88.

Last weekend I was with a gen Z friend (who relates as a millennial). Heard a song on a terrestrial radio station. Used her app to track the song (had no clue about the RDS feature of which the name appeared) flipped from FM to Spotify

So all those people who claim Gen Z listens to terrestrial radio - bu****it
I don’t find Spotify to be a credible source of SHTF. Radio is sadly dead. And some zoomers are dumb af

Just to make the matters worse at WCBS 880, after the 7:08 traffic and weather update, Wayne said Tom Kaminski is the last radio traffic reporter in a copter. Guess Denver, LA and others have grounded them So, so sad

To add salt to the wounds at WCBS - long time meteorologist Craig Allen said on their other than “s u x” but said many “are not of retirement age” which implies a layoff which means many won’t be on WINS. In short careers are getting laid

: according to WCBS Newsradio 880 and reported by competing sister station 1010 WINS, Newsradio 880 will sign off at the end of the month. Audacy will own the station but will have a 3rd party company program it as ESPN radio. WCBS’ calls will retire.

As a fun fact: The station is legally known as “WCBS New York” not to be confused with channel 2 which is explicitly “WCBS-TV New York” with the FCC

I have an rant against NBC10 Boston’s 7:30 O-Zone special. The Kayla girl has for two straight weeks opened the show as “welcome to the Olympic zone - O Zone” or some variation where it was said in the same breath.

Because the O Zone title for local NBC stations dating back years when the ol affiliate w/ Joe Amrosino would do it on the VizRT chroma key, he was very cash the title if i could remember. Everyone who tuned into 7’s version knew what they’re watching.

This is why local media sucks. We have to assume people can NOT key in context clues and everything has to be explicit for an IQ level of a first graders. I just blame Kayla for being reserved or just dry.

What advice do you have to people wanting to go into journalism?

Don’t!
Your friends will hate you. People would want you dead. your parents would wished they’d about you.

CLAIM: New Hampshire Union Leader vis a vis The Washington Post wires claimed that NBC is tracking the athletes’ parent’s heart rate.

REALITY: FALSE! The bug for the heart reads is actually coming from the Olympic Broadcasting Service, which is the pooled feed where the so called “rights holders” get the coverage. NBC themselves only has a handful of cameras in Paris. The flat graphics comes from OBS while NBC does insert their fancy graphics.

We have this American exceptionalism that NBC does a lot for the Olympics. Perhaps they help OBS a lot - maybe NBC pitched the idea but the pooled organization does virtually 99% of the actual venue’s video and audio coverage

To say It was NBC’s idea, to claim its fully an NBC thing is a flat out lie

End of an era:
Yesterday marked the last day of The View at ABC’s Television Center at West 66th St. they’re moving to the Yards by the Hudson River to the east coast headquarters of the Walt Disney Company. The move for the entire ABC New York operations is scheduled to be completed next year as their 5 year lease expires

I think the New Hampshire Union Leader need to answer this pressing question: why do feel a need to insert the state’s initials as if you’re all about New Hampshire?

The local subscribers freckin know the area you’re serving. Not only that it would save in character spacing in the headlines.

This is how Eric Fisher survives layoffs at V/CBS’ WBZ Weather… gaslights Bostonians at 5:00 last night about this earlier than usual heatwave as it’s completely normal and the reason why it’s hotter is our “bodies are not acclimated”. He didn’t have to admit climate change just had some balls to emphasize its above normal.
