You've heard of S.M.A.R.T goals but have you ever M.A.P -ed out your dreams to confirm if what's on your vision board honestly represents your true self? How do we know if our goals are for clout or purpose? It's impossible to know exactly how any new endeavor will pan out, but I believe there are some questions we can ask ourselves to ensure we're on the right track. M.A.P it out! Are your goals:

Meaningful: Do they have value beneath the surface? It's ok to do things just for the experience, but when you're investing the bulk of your time and resources into a project, you may want to pick one with deep roots that can withstand the inevitable challenges we all face. Know your values and evaluate the mark you'd like to leave behind.

Attractive: Do you want this for yourself? Are you picking a path that lights you up? Even if it looks good on paper, you deserve to have joy and passion in your life. Even a weight loss or credit repair journey can be joyful if you hold that intention.

Personal: Yes, you want to leave a legacy behind, but your life cannot be all about pleasing others. Take some time to discover which voice in your head is your own. Through the objectives you set for yourself, you design your life. Don't use someone else's blueprint to create the life you'll have to live.

Have you ever caught yourself in a mental spiral? It can start with one negative thought like, "I haven't been to the gym in a while." Before you know it, the anxiety department in your brain is sharing a PowerPoint called, "How I Ended up 50 and Alone because I Ate Too Many Doritos and Didn't Go to Spin Class".

Our unchecked mental chatter can quickly lead to an all-out breakdown: the spiral. Thankfully, we can usually tell when a spiral is on its way and reverse it by interrupting the monkey mind with a flurry of positive thoughts. Turn your stress spiral into a Success Spiral!

If you ever catch yourself ruminating - try this: STOP the spiral and push it in the other direction with five positive ideas (even if it feels silly at first). For example, "I never work out anymore. I'm so lazy!"

STOP the negative thought and reflect on the positive:
I haven't worked out in a while, but I know what routines work for me, and when I do exercise, I know it will be productive.
If I go to the gym twice this week, that's significant progress toward my goal!
I have a friend that might like to go for a run with me. I'll give them a call.
I'm proud of myself for recognizing the areas of my life that could use some improvement.
I'm grateful for this opportunity to start a new productive habit.
You can generate as many positive thoughts and affirmations as you need. The point is to charge yourself up to take action! Anxiety spirals paralyze us and leave us feeling helpless, while Success Spirals remind us of what we can do with what we have. Take back control of your mind. It's YOUR mind! What success spirals are you starting today?

“Spiritual Hygiene” – it’s a thing. You wouldn’t leave your house in the morning without a good shower and deodorant, but so often we set out into the world with the residue of anger, stress, and other negative emotions that happen while we’re human-ing. Emotional energy can be felt by those around us. Just like you don’t want to smell your coworker, no one wants to wade through the funk of your bad mood. Dirty mouth? Clean it up! (Insert lint licker meme here).
Having great spiritual hygiene doesn’t mean that you won’t ever have a low mood, but it does require you to take responsibility for the impact your mood has on your environment. Here are some tips to stay fresh:
1. Clean up your morning routine. Try staying away from social media for the first 30 minutes after you wake up. Start your day with something energizing like a gratitude practice or quick yoga session before tackling the demands of the day. Make time for you!
2. Open up and communicate! If you know you’re not feeling your best, share that with the people who are closest to you. A quick, “Sorry I’ve been distant lately. My week has been so chaotic” can save you so many misunderstandings and give others an opportunity to support you emotionally.
3. Check in with yourself. If you don’t know how you’re feeling, you can’t let stay ahead of how your emotions influence your behavior. Take time to meditate or journal. Schedule some quiet time into your week to reflect on your inner experience.
A little self-awareness and intention setting can help us infuse positivity into any setting. What are your spiritual hygiene tips?
