Rd 1/2 British Enduro Championship - Lossiemouth

Alfie Davies, Rhydian Rees and Sion Evans made the long trip up to Lossiemouth near Elgin, Scotland this weekend for the first round of this year's BEC.

With Alfie moving into the new Clubman Youth Class and both Sion and Rhydian moving up to Experts class this event would prove to be a great learning experience for all three boys.

Saturday started well for Alf, holding 2nd place at the half way stage but 29 seconds down on class leader Will Barnett. A big shift during the second half of the day saw Alf moving up a gear, clawing time back on Will and overhauling him on the last test of the day to claim a fantastic day win.

In the large and super competitive Experts class it was mixed fortunes for the other two PAR HOMES team riders with Rhyd crashing hard on his first enduro test and knocking himself about a bit, but Sion having a great run through the test and setting top time.
The deep, loose sand of the Dunes test was physically demanding but both boys coped well and attacked the beach side trails with plenty of energy. At the half way point, Sion had opened up a 39 second lead in the Experts E1 class and was sitting 4th overall Expert. Rhyd recovered well from his crash putting in some competitive test times throughout the day to start climbing back up the E1 leaderboard.
Sion then hit problems on test 5 with a persistent bogging issue hampering his progress. With no time at the 'Splash and Dash' service to rectify the problem he soldiered on for the remaining 3 tests nursing the bike home to finish as 3rd E1 Expert for the day.
Rhyd then suffered a similar fate to Sion on his 4th and final lap with a similar carburettor related problem causing the bike to bog and proving frustrating for him. Again he did well to nurse the bike home for a well deserved finish.
At the end of day service the carb issues were found to be a blocked main jet on both bikes with sand having found a way into the float bowl and blocking the main jets on both bikes.
The carbs were cleaned, air filters replaced and both bikes were now sporting fresh new filter skins, and fully prepped for the start of day 2.
All three boys slept well Saturday night!!!!

Three weary looking boys took to the line at the start of day 2 with Alf instantly resuming his weekend long battle with Will. A steady start for Alf however saw him play catch-up for most of the day. Pushing on throughout the day and again closing in on Will towards the last test he just missed out on the day win by 0.59 of a second!!! A great ride by Alf and a big well done to both lads for pushing hard all weekend.

Sion again started well in the Experts class battling for the lead and sitting in 2nd place after two tests, 2 seconds down on the class leader. Rhyd had a much better start to day 2 and was feeling much more at home on the gruelling sandy terrain and posting competitive test times.
On test 3 a big crash for Sion in the deep sand dunes left him stranded in a deep hole and by the time he got going again he was well over a minute off the pace setters and down in 8th place. Trying hard to make up time, some small crashes on the remaining 3 tests halted his aspirations of another top 3 spot. He pushed on though and did make up some places ending the day in a very creditable 6th place E1.
Rhyd was getting to grips with the sandy terrain and was enjoying a far better day on Sunday with his test times consistently improving as the day wore on. Keeping his best until the very last test of the weekend Rhyd finished the day impressively as 11th place Expert E1.

All three boys can be very pleased with their riding over the weekend, especially in the perseverence and resolve that they displayed in very challenging and unfamiliar terrain for them. A great team effort from all three, the experience will stand them in good stead for the future and all will have come away from Scotland as better enduro riders.

A huge thanks to all the Highlands Enduro Club members for a fantastic event and such a warm welcome. Hopefully we can return to Lossie again in the very near future.
A huge thank you also to Paul Rowlands and all our PAR HOMES team sponsors for making this possible for the boys. We truly appreciate all your support.
