Wampum is considered invaluable to some Indigenous nations, such as the Haudenosaunee. It was used in trades and as currency. It is one of the most precious materials to have, use, and/or wear. Just thought I'd share a tidbit to the ones who aren't sure what wampum is or why it's important.

Truth and Reconciliation Orange ring

I chose to use an orange background and white for the children because I see them as pure, innocent, little angel souls 💖

I wanted to make something to commemorate this day, remember the history, and also to reclaim who I am as ukwehuwe. The Residential School legacy is NOT in the past. It lives on through the survivors and non-survivors, their families, their stories, and the generations to come. This is a part of our lives and history, and I don't only mean Indigenous people. It includes everyone who lives in Canada and the US! I encourage everyone to learn about this day and what it truly means. Ukwehuwe - keep learning and reclaiming your identity! Non-Indigenous - educate yourself and become an honest ally. Please do it for the right reasons!

I worked on this piece as much as I could, and I did my best to finish it before meeting one of my fave scream queens! I gifted this to her because she's the star of that particular Halloween that this picture is based on, which you see on the last pic.

Full disclosure: This is NOT my original design. Although this design is technically the original movie poster made by their artist, I used beadwork design to help make this, and I only made tiny changes to it. Thank you! If there is an issue, please let me know, and I will take it down.
