June is National Pet Preparedness Month
What you should know about Pet Preparedness? Here are a few things from https://www.ready.gov/pet-toolkit (an official website of the United States government):
Include your pets in your emergency plans
Build a separate emergency kit for your pets
Make sure and keep digital records and/or pictures to identify your pet after a disaster in case you become separated
Create a list of places that accept pets if an emergency happens
We'll be posting more tips and tools over the next few weeks that we hope will be helpful to you in preparing your pets for an emergency or natural disaster.

April is National Pet First Aid Awareness Month. This is a great opportunity to brush up on or take the first step in learning what to do in case of a pet emergency. We recommend the basic pet first aid class offered by The American Red Cross. It is an online course that costs $25 and lasts 35-minutes, where you can work at your own pace and receive a digital certification upon completion.
https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/classes/cat-and-dog-first-aid-online/a6R0V0000015EUf.html
In addition to the education component, we also recommend a pet first aid kit. These are typically inexpensive and small enough to store in your vehicle, backpack or disaster preparedness bag. If you are unsure how to build a pet first aid kit, we offer one that is ready to go with everything you need.

Do you take a canine first aid kit or IFAK with you when you are out working your dog? On hikes, camping or other adventures? Why or why not?
When humans fight or argue around dogs, it can make dogs very anxious. Like children, they're not sure if they are in trouble or what! Obviously, highly trained military/law enforcement dogs are able to handle confrontations better....but other types of dogs are not. For working dogs, this can be even more problematic because it may affect their work performance. Hey, we all have our moments! But to get the best out of your working dog, take the fight somewhere away from your canine companion.
Enjoy your weekend!

Have you ever wondered how to measure your dog so its harness will fit properly?
1. Use a flexible fabric measuring tape.
2. Be sure your dog is standing straight and level with head up, looking forward and legs square. Your dog should not be hunched over, in a crouching position or sitting down.
3. Measure the dog, not the fur. Be sure to pull the measuring tape snug against your dogās body, particularly with dogs with heavy coats.
4. Take neck and girth measurements:
Neck ā Measure from top of breastbone in front (broadest point of chest), to the point of the withers at the base of neck (back, where shoulder blades come together). Measure one side only and double it for the most accurate measurement.
Girth ā Measure around the widest part of your dogās mid-section (torso). Depending on the breed, sometimes this will be close to its front legs (arm pits).
Easy peasy, right?

"Australian cattle dogs, are not like Labradors, where they just like to just sit around by the fire and get petted. They're working dogs, so they have a lot of energy, and they can drive you crazy." - Owen Wilson
