Last year I made a Mrs. Potato Head costume to wear to school, and when the preschoolers saw me, their jaws dropped. "Mrs. Potato Head??” It melted my heart every time.

As I'm missing the kiddos, I decided to make clip art of something near and dear to my heart - to all of our hearts really - the Potato Heads😊 Build a Potato Friend clip art is in the works, coming to you soon!!

Here is my newest resource! Final Consonant Deletion Minimal Pairs Clipart, which is 50% OFF right now!

I work with preschoolers, so when I started my TpT store back in April, some of my first resources used minimal pairs to target various phonological processes. While creating those resources, I spent a significant amount of time searching for the clipart that I needed. I had so many ideas of resources to create and incorporate into my own students' teletherapy, but the search for clipart added quite a bit of time to the process.

On top of the already busy schedule of an SLP, I know that some of you also choose to create resources for your own caseloads or to sell resources on TpT. I created this Final Consonant Deletion Minimal Pairs Clipart so that you are able to spend more time brainstorming and creating your resources and less time looking for just the right clipart to include! Click on the link in my bio to go to my store and to get this clipart while it's on sale!

This will end up becoming part of a bundle of Minimal Pairs Clipart, and I plan to create other speech-language-specific clipart bundles. Is there any specific clipart that you would like to see?

Let’s talk GIVEAWAY!! Today is the last day to enter the /Fun/ctional Speech giveaway for a chance to win ANY resource in my store! The 3 winners can choose an individual resource, a bundle, a growing bundle, clipart - truly ANY resource in my TpT store! (An off topic but kinda on topic note: I’ll be adding Final Consonant Deletion Minimal Pairs Clipart to my store in the next couple days, so you won’t see it in my store but it’s fair game for the giveaway!)

Here is a final reminder of how to enter into the giveaway:

1. Make sure to follow me and like any one of my giveaway posts
2. Share the post on your story so that your other speechie friends can enter too!
3. Click on the link in my bio to be taken to my store. Look around to find the resource that is perfect for you and tell me in the comments! I would also love to hear your ideas on how you would use the resource with your students - but that part isn’t required for the giveaway so it’s up to you. (Commenting a specific resource doesn’t lock you in, so if you win you can feel free to choose a different resource!)

Tomorrow I will randomly choose 3 winners after the giveaway ends and message them to figure out specifics! I’m eager to see which resources you guys are excited about!!

What do you get if you win? Glad you asked! The 3 winners can go to my store and choose ANY resource and I will email it to them. That’s all there is to it! By ANY I mean that you can choose an individual resource, a bundle, a growing bundle, clipart - if you see it in my store, then it’s fair game!!! YOU are the only one who knows the needs of your caseload. I recognize that and don’t want to limit the usefulness of a giveaway by choosing a resource that would only benefit a portion of you.

1. Make sure to follow me and like this post
2. Share it so that your other speechie friends can enter too!

We all think differently, so it makes sense that we all plan differently as well! If you’re like me, you'll love having the plans, student goals, and data collection all in one place!

I have discovered that color coding helps to keep things organized, so I like to assign a different color of paper to each day of the school week! Whatever planning system you use, you should try it out to see if it works for you!

Day 6 of the Summer Lovin’ Sale ☀️

Today’s 50% resource is my “Hello! From your Child’s SLP” Parent Letter Template in English & Spanish! This letter template is easy to personalize and make your own. My favorite part included in the full template is the "Why I Love Speech Therapy" section. Parents are entrusting us with their child's communication, and that's a big deal! That is why I believe that it is incredibly important for parents to understand our heart and passion for what we do!

You’ll receive my example letter in English and Spanish, a full template that is divided into sections, and a stripped-down template consisting of only the border and the "Hello! From Your Child's Speech Therapist" heading. The full template includes space for your note to parents, your email, a picture, and an explanation of why you love speech therapy.

Click on the link in my bio to get my “Hello! From your Child’s SLP” Parent Letter Template in English & Spanish for only $0.93! And don’t forget that the rest of my store is 20% off!!

Today’s 50% resource is one of my favorites to use with older students who are working on context clues and vocabulary! No Print Video Games Context Clues for Older Students uses fun facts about the history of video games and the video games that students play today to practice context clues and to build vocabulary. Students are highly engaged when talking about video games that they enjoy, which sets them up for success! In this resource, you will find plenty of evidence-based methods that promote the learning of Tier 2 vocabulary, video game-themed visuals to teach context clues, and explanations of the types of context clues.

Click on the link in my bio to get No Print Video Games Context Clues for Older Students for only $4.98! There is also a free sample in my store so that you can determine if this resource meets the needs for you and your caseload.

Day 3 of the Summer Lovin’ Sale ☀️
And the sale continues! Today’s 50% off product is my Speech Mouth Clipart that features lateral views of tongue placement for each sound. This clipart is great to use when teaching placement of sounds or when sending home articulation practice. We can’t actually show students or parents what our tongue looks like for each sound (unless you have some fancy machine I guess), so these visuals are super helpful when you are wanting to increase parents’ and students’ understanding of tongue placement for targeted sounds.

To get my Speech Mouth Clipart for $4.43, simply click on the link in my bio. And don’t forget, all other resources in my store are 20% off right now!

Do justly. In order to do justly, we must also seek justice. ‘To do’ and ‘to seek’ requires action - they do not settle for passivity. They go beyond simple recognition and acknowledgement of injustice. They require action.

To my marginalized and oppressed brothers and sisters, I can never fully understand the injustices that you face daily. But I am seeking to understand them more. I am researching and educating myself on social justice and, ultimately, biblical justice. It has been humbling. And as I’ve been turning to the Bible to gain a better understanding of what it means to ‘do justly,’ it has become more and more apparent that justice for the oppressed is at the heart of God.

As I was researching social justice through the eyes of Jesus, I came across a call for action that I wanted to share: “Fueled by the compassion of Christ, we engage in issues of injustice – protecting the vulnerable, fighting for those held in oppression, walking alongside the wounded and pointing them to the One who heals, restores and redeems.

Pursuing justice starts and continues with a foundation of prayer, because we know it is His battle not our own. It involves time and sacrifice. It means stepping out of our comfort zone and persevering with patience. It means walking in wisdom and not jumping in haphazardly or foolishly. Our just God leads and we follow as He empowers us through the Holy Spirit. So, let’s go. Let’s engage in the fight for biblical justice.” (Christine Erickson, Biblical Justice and Social Justice)

I promise to be active in the fight for social and biblical justice - whatever its form. To strive for understanding and to advocate for all people to be viewed and valued as they are - created in the image of God. And above all else, I promise to be fervent in prayer, going to the One who is faithful and just.

This is my husband, Chase. As of today (yesterday?), we have been married for 3 years! Although, since we have been together 24/7 these past few months, we considered jumping right to the 3.25 year mark. •

Here is a little bit about Chase. He is a medical student at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and he is almost finished with his first year! He is also a coffee enthusiast, so much so that it is on his resume. He hasn’t shaved since the quarantine started and his beard is coming in strong. He loves God and people a whole lot, and he loves and cares for me well... even when I’m laser-focused while creating one of my resources ;)

I’m grateful that he’s my guy.

“Mama, can I take this with me to the babysitters’?!” When I create and use a material with a high-energy 5 year old during teletherapy, it keeps him engaged, and it gets a lot of productions, I call that a success. When I create and use a material with a high-energy 5 year and he wants me to send it to his mom so that he can play it at home, I silently jump up and down on the inside. When I create and use a material with a high-energy 5 year old, he wants me to send it to his mom, AND he wants to take it with him to his babysitter’s house — well, then I’m speechless (pun intended). Kids are loving these final consonant deletion puzzles — and that means that I’m loving them too! These puzzles facilitate a lot of productions, a lot of fun, and a lot of laughter. The silly tails are a hit every time! I plan to send this resource to my students’ parents for summer practice, since this interactive PDF can be opened on a laptop, a tablet, or a smart phone. I am grateful to work with parents who are dedicated to their child’s speech therapy and eager to be involved.

Does this sound like a resource that would benefit you and your caseload? If so, you can find my NO PRINT Silly Tail Sounds Final Consonant Deletion Puzzles in my store (link in bio).

Meet little Rachel. Shirley Temple-style curly hair and always cheesin. It was around this age when my mom began to have concerns about my speech.

At age three, I began to receive speech services for Childhood Apraxia of Speech. I was in speech therapy for eight years, both in the school setting and in outpatient clinics. I am blessed to have a mom who was dedicated to my speech therapy and was diligent in working with me throughout the week (which is why I am so passionate about family involvement today). I still remember the joy on my SLP’s face when she told me that I had “graduated” from speech therapy at the end of the fourth grade. That’s when I decided that I wanted to become an SLP. •

Praise God for this story - for my incredible SLPs, for an amazing mom, for a family rooted in prayer, and for instilling a passion for speech path in my heart. The speech services that I received as a child drastically changed the trajectory of my life. My passion is to offer speech-language intervention so that children and their families can have a similar story they can share.

Let me lay out a scenario for you - a scenario that I am quite familiar with. My group of high school boys come in my room for their session, typically talking about video games. We start with our weekly conversation, in which we talk about the best and most “meh” part of our weeks (which I highly suggest if you have middle school and high school students on your caseload - it helps to build rapport, gives you insight into your students’ lives/interests, and is great conversation practice for students). Then I get out this week’s therapy activity and — buhm buhm buhm — suddenly, they aren’t as interested. •

No one likes doing something that is difficult for them. The same goes for our students. I fully believe that students learn best when they are engaged and motivated, which is why I created this resource. I use this resource to target context clues with my high schoolers and middle schoolers who play/are obsessed with video games. And the results speak for themselves! The students are more engaged when talking about the video games that they enjoy, which sets them up for success. In this resource, you will also find evidence-based methods that promote the learning of Tier 2 vocabulary.

The link in my bio will take you to my store, where you can check out my NO PRINT Video Game Context Clues for Older Students — I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback! What are some of your older students’ interests and how do you intertwine them into your therapy sessions?

I packed up my speech room over the weekend. It is officially the end of the school year, which is bittersweet for sure. I have missed my students, my coworkers, and just being at the school in general. And I have been reminded of what a blessing it is to love what I do. •

This school year didn’t end the way I had planned. It didn’t end the way any of us planned. But despite the uncertainties, I am thankful that our God is in control. And because of Him, there is always hope.

Hello!🌻 My name is Rachel, and I am the face behind /Fun/ctional Speech. My store has been up and running for a little over a month now, and I am super happy with the growth I've seen so far. I decided to start on social media to let you all in on my life and to share the resources I am excited about in my store. I also plan to post special promotions, giveaways, tips, and sneak peaks of resources that I’m working on right now. I want this space to be interactive and to hear from you guys how you’ve been implementing my resources into your therapy and any requests for resources that would meet the needs of your caseload. •

Here is a little bit about me. I am a school SLP in Cincinnati, Ohio, where I live with my wonderful husband Chase. I love being a school SLP. There is such a unique opportunity to care for students within the schools, and it is such a joy. I received speech services for years when I was younger. I have wanted to be an SLP since I was in fourth grade. My heart is in the schools.

I get giddy about making new resources for my students (just ask my husband, who’s a trooper and attempts to meet me in my excitement each time I show him what I’m working on). Each one of my resources has been inspired by my own students’ interests, and a lot of them were created with a specific couple of students in mind. Each resource is created to be functional, engaging, and evidence-based.

Lastly, I feel honored that my materials are already being used across the world to facilitate speech and language growth. Thank you for coming alongside me as I begin this journey!
