this design came to me in a dream last year— a dream which i completely forgot. and for weeks i was frustrated trying to recall what it was i dreamt of. because all i could remember was the joy i felt when i dreamt of it, because i was amazed at how ingenious the design was in my opinion 🤣

months later, i was trying to take a nap in broad daylight, so i used our linen face mask to cover my eyes instead— and it finally came back to me! i remember i dreamt of making an eye sleeping mask! and what’s going to set it apart from all the other eye masks in the market would be the integrated 𝙘𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙤𝙣 𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙥𝙨 instead of the usual head strap! because every time i would sleep with a traditional eye mask on, i wake up without it the very next day. it never stays put. crazy how such a simple design choice could make all the difference. ergonomics, yes? 🤣

of course, the fabric of choice would be just as important as the design. i have always wanted to work with a silk fabric, but i knew the procurement of pure mulberry silk would be very costly, so we were so happy to find a 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗸 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱 fabric that had a similar look and feel with mulberry silk. more about this fabric in the coming days!

a client pointing this out as well has prompted me to share this with all of you guys:

this is the first time i’ll be using “i” to refer to KOSTURA instead of “we” because this is a personal letter from me. as i’ve mentioned before on our e-interview with , even before the conception of KOSTURA, i already knew that if i were to ever start a business in the future, while it may not be directly related to saving the planet, i will make sure that it will make a positive impact on both our community and our environment as well.

plastic isn’t evil. it is our never-ending dependence on it that’s causing the problem. i’m not here to demonize the use of plastic because to tell you the truth, plastic is still present at our home. why? because living sustainably is hard and promoting sustainability is even harder. there’s not one organization that has perfected the closed-loop system sustainability is about. but i would still like to try, even in my own little ways, to lessen our waste, especially in an industry that’s notorious for producing 10% of the world’s global carbon dioxide emissions each year.

i also use “i” because i am fully aware that not everyone will share the same ethics as i do. that the simple act of adding another waste on a perfectly well-packed parcel isn’t something worth writing an email for. but KOSTURA is more than just a simple business for me, it is also my way of sharing a small part of myself along with my beliefs, in the hopes that the small act of using alternatives that are better for the environment will encourage people to live more consciously in a world where everything is instant.

something that i have always, always been firm on are my principles. my principles that have been subject for scrutiny since KOSTURA began, but gladly remains intact. it is there because i believe you only deserve my 100%.

had to juggle our minds trying to figure out how we’re going to pack our Monday deliveries.

💡 then we remembered a gift we received last Christmas that was wrapped in a very interesting way.

which leads us to the photo on this post! it’s a three-dimensional honeycomb wrap designed as an alternative to plastic bubble wraps (we don’t use any) so it was also the same material we were looking at for providing cushion for our third-party courier deliveries— this is still up for careful consideration, as the switch to sustainability comes at a hefty price, but we’re really happy to see great progress in sustainable shipping. we’re definitely looking forward to the time where earth-friendly packaging (& everything) is the norm.

we’re still experimenting at this point but we’re hoping it turns out well 🤞🏼 peep our little twist 👀

amount of work we still have to do, someone out there is actually risking their life
so ours could be protected.

it warms our heart to know that we were able to successfully create a product that could help keep them safe in return.

all our exhaustion and anxiousness has been replaced by genuine joy & tranquility.
