The Mino (our mothers) or Ahosi (king’s wives) while European observers called them the Dahomey Amazons were founded by the king Houegbadja. They were corps of elephant hunters called the Gbeto and the became a Fon all-female military regiment of the Kingdom of Dahomey in the present-day Republic of Benin which lasted until 1904.

Others claimed that Houegbadja’s daughter Queen Hangbe established a group of female royal bodyguards.
So we will never know for sure their origin but one sure thing is that They’re remembered of as fearless women.
