Where are hydrocarbons found?

Almost all hydrocarbons occur naturally in crude oils, like petroleum and natural gas. Since crude oil is made of decomposed organic matter, it is abundant in hydrogen and carbon atoms. They are also present in different trees and plants, and form a natural pigment called carotene, that can be found in carrots and green leaves. The majority of natural crude rubber, 98%, is made of a hydrocarbon polymer; this is formed when a chainlike, molecule forms, consisting of many units linked together.

Some hydrocarbons can cause other effects, including coma, seizures, irregular heart rhythms or damage to the kidneys or liver. Examples of products that contain dangerous hydrocarbons include some solvents used in paints and dry cleaning and household cleaning chemicals.if it enters the lungs, it can cause a pneumonia-like condition; irreversible, permanent lung damage; and even death.

Hydrocarbons

A hydrocarbon is any of a class of organic chemicals made up of only the elements carbon (C) and hydrogen (H). The carbon atoms join together to form the framework of the compound, and the hydrogen atoms attach to them in many different configurations.

Aliphatic hydrocarbons are divided into three main groups according to the types of bonds they contain: alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes. Alkanes have only single bonds, alkenes contain a carbon-carbon double bond, and alkynes contain a carbon-carbon triple bond.
