Chloe gave him a stern look followed by a pointed one at his left arm and right leg, both of which were in casts. All it took was one misstep for him to fall, which would at the very least cause immense pain and at the very worst, cause even more damage.

“Where’s your wheelchair?”

Evan heaved a noisy breath. “I’m not using one.”

“Crutches then?” Chloe cringed when his response was to hop back a step so she could see beyond his massive frame to the single crutch balanced against the kitchen counter. A kitchen counter that was very far away from the front door.

Launching into caretaker mode, she sidestepped her way between the door frame and his large body, snatched up his crutch and handed it to him.

“Thanks.” He somehow managed to simultaneously accept the crutch and keep the door open with his elbow, as if he didn’t expect her to stay long. Boy, was he in for a surprise. Slipping the crutch under his uninjured arm, he asked, “So Chloe Tidwell, to what do I owe this pleasure?”

“Your sister sent me.”

He frowned. “Why?”

“Apparently you need a maid.”

Evan was absolutely floored. Seeing Chloe again after so many years was like a bucket of ice water to the face, like taking a sucker punch to the stomach. Both would have stolen his breath for less time than the sight of her on his doorstep shooting daggers with her eyes.

Now she stood under his roof, her vulnerability evident in the curve of her shoulders and the way she avoided looking at him with her soft brown eyes. Evan was blindsided all over again by both her body language and by how utterly beautiful she was.

His heart raced as old memories resurfaced, of days when they furtively held hands under his parents’ kitchen table, when they shared long, warm glances in the high school hallways. One question rang out in his head over and over.

*Why? Why? Why?*

But Chloe wasn’t here to talk about the past.

Hoping everyone’s year is off to a fantastic start! Still chipping away at my next book, MAID FOR EVAN. As mentioned before, it’s a second chance romance with a side of enemies to lovers.

How about a teaser?
To set the scene, our heroine has just arrived at Evan’s house for the first time. It has been years since she last saw him, and she is not his biggest fan.

Lifting her chin, Chloe marched up the driveway. She could do this. She would clean Evan’s house from top to bottom. His nasty microwave would shine. The sticky counters would gleam. His neighbors would come knocking at the delicious aromas of her home cooked meals.

And Evan would worship the floor she swept upon. Yes. Evan McMeanie, make way, for your life is about to get a whole lot cleaner.

Hiking up the porch steps, she made a fist and rapped her knuckles against the door. With her feet firmly planted, she waited. And she waited.

And then she waited some more.

A glance at her phone confirmed she had the right address. There was a jeep out front that she assumed belonged to him. There was a light on inside the house too. She lifted her hand, about to knock again, when the door finally eased open.

Chloe’s eyes went wide as she found herself staring at a barrel chest. Looking up, her gaze skirted over well defined pecs and a thick neck before locking onto a face she hardly recognized. Gone was the acne-ridden boy from their youth, and in his place was a man with piercing green eyes.

Ugg, Chloe had to face the facts on this one. Evan had grown up to be an absolute hunk.

Happy New Year!! I’m hard at work on my second book (slated to be Book 4 in the College Station Romance series)! It’s looking like a second chance love story with a dash of enemies-to-lovers. Two tropes I adore.
