They have more than one set of doors facing different direction. The inside is like an estate.

Color matters as well:
Yellow: the Emperor
Red: high ranking officials / the rich
Black: common people

At first, I wanted to explain Siheyuan (四合院) starting from its basic units, & then elaborate these huge structures in Siheyuan's terms
But then the front door took all the focus

So... perhaps the inner structure would be another story 😅

This is definitely not an exhaustive list of all rain gears at the old times. There were development throughout history, from tung-oiled rain clothes to these capes. There were also different materials and styles for the hats but this is the general idea.

The hat and rain cape set (蓑笠) exist in many ancient poems, e.g. ❄️"River Snow" (江雪) by the poet Liu Zongyuan (柳宗元) from the Tang Dynasty

Xiao CeAn as the Head of the Imperial Army at the beginning, was 2nd grade military officer. He might look like this. ☝🏻
Above these civil and military officials’ ranking, the patches for nobilities are Qirin (麒麟) and BaiZe (白澤).

As for our LanZhou, there is another co-existing set of attire that is only for the Imperial Bodyguards (錦衣衛). It is quite splendid and out of this court uniform system.
