Must visit fall national park!

At the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway is our favorite fall national park on the east coast, Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

🍁 The Smokey Mountains are incredible all year but really come alive with color in the fall.

🏔 The best view in the national park just happens to be the highest point, Clingman’s Dome.

⛅️ In fact, Clingman’s Dome isn’t just a high point but also a lookout tower that often puts you above the clouds.

It’s incredible and just perfect to enjoy the fall foliage.

❓Anyone else drawn to lookout towers? We love them and seem to have to go no matter WHAT they are looking out over. 😂

A can’t-miss stop when you visit Shenandoah National Park is Mount Vernon!

Mount Vernon is George Washington’s home and an incredible living history tour.

❤️ We love visiting historical sites during our travels and this mansion was one of our favorites.

It really feels like you are stepping back into time. A favorite exhibit is a set of his teeth. I won’t blow the secret of what they are really made of. 😂

😮 Did you know that George Washington also ran one of the largest whiskey distilleries in the country in 1799? You can also tour the distillery.

Also not too far away is Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s mansion. We didn’t get a chance to visit it.

😮 Don’t miss this epic cave near Shenandoah National Park!

Luray Caverns is our favorite cave in the whole country and a must-see in this area.

🥰 The formations in this cave are just out of this world and it is usually ranked near the top of other cave lover’s lists.

📸 Cave photography is tricky and these aren’t the greatest photos but I really wanted to share the beauty of this place with you so you can see why we love it so much!

This is so cool! Way more exciting than the ducks.😍🤣

This is the first time I’ve noticed these trail badges on a jeep. Apparently these are called Badges of Honor and it’s an ever-expanding program put together by Jeep. Each state has different trails and Utah has the most, of course, with ten.

Currently, the BOH program comprises 68 trails across 25 states and this guy has put 22 of them under his tires. This is a pretty neat program and I’m surprised I haven’t noticed these before. I’ve seen the cute little rubber ducks, but this is even cooler

When you are visiting West Virginia, don’t miss out on visiting the coal mining town of Beckley, WV.

⚒️ The mining history in this area is fascinating and you can even take a guided history tour through the mines!

Visit the Beckley Exhibition Coal mine to learn what life was like for miners. Then hop aboard a mine car to go into the mines.

😍 Our tour guide was a coal miner his whole life and told us the most incredible mining stories!!!

Out of all of our travels, this is still one of our favorite tours. We learned so much!

Where is your fall camping spot?

Fall is just the best! The gorgeous fall foliage and crisp air make spending time outdoors so enjoyable.

If I had to pick a place it may be tied between Gatlinburg, TN and Branson, MO.

⛰ We love the mountains in the fall and the fun activities that both of those towns have. Both Dollywood and Silver Dollar City are a blast in the fall.

Harper’s Ferry National Historic Park is another fall stop in the national parks system in West Virginia that you just have to see.

🍁 This stunning Civil War historical park sits on a river surrounded by mountains and a cool old train tunnel. It would be even more beautiful in the fall.

This site used to be a US armory and is now set up as a town full of historic buildings that tell the story of that time.

🍭 One of our favorite buildings was an antique candy store that had candy displays from all the years. It felt like a candy museum but it was all for sale to try.

This place was a blast to explore and extremely educational!

One of the most surprising national parks on our favorite fall list is in West Virginia!

😍 New River Gorge National Park is a recent addition to the national park system and truly a hidden gem.

🥾 It is popular for whitewater rafting and hiking. The scenery is just gorgeous!

We didn’t catch the leaves change in this park but fell in love with it and will definitely be back!

No one will ever forget what they were doing and the way they felt when they heard the news on September 11th.

😢 I will also never forget the look on my daughter’s face visiting the memorial and explaining the 2 enormous holes with lists of names to my 6 year old.

Innocence, sadness, confusion.

💯 The magnitude of seeing the site in person is hard to explain. We were thankful for the opportunity to both see it, and to educate our girl about 911 in person.

We will never forget! 🇺🇸

Love mountain lakes?

🍁 I think that is what makes Rocky Mountain National Park such a fall favorite.

It’s truly gorgeous and top on our list of fall parks!

Don’t miss a trip up to the Alpine Visitor Center for a completely different view of the park.

❄️ But bundle up! It was 70 degrees down in Estes Park but windy and snowing the day we visited the Alpine Visitor Center.

It was so cold that we had to purchase sweatshirts!🤣

😬Weather changes rapidly RVing. Here are some tips to stay safe on the road.

We have been through some insane weather and fire events while FT RV living.

We have had to evacuate, reroute, or wait it out.

📌 Here are some tips to stay weather prepared in your RV:

1️⃣ Download weather apps and turn on alerts.⚡️
2️⃣ Know the wind forecast and avoid travel on high wind advisory days or if a sand storm is forecasted. 💨
3️⃣ Find the tornado shelter in each campground. (Usually the bathhouse) A tornado WARNING means to take cover. A watch just means the conditions are right for a tornado to form. 🌪
4️⃣ Get an app for wildfires and consider a small air purifier to keep smoke out of your rig. 🔥
5️⃣ Don’t wait until the last minute to evacuate for hurricanes. If you can’t evacuate for a hurricane, consider putting your slides in. 🛣
6️⃣ Be on alert of flooding if camping near any body of water. It comes up extremely fast! 💦
7️⃣ Make sure you have good RV insurance. 🚐

Best secret sunset spot in Acadia NP Schoodic Peninsula section.

The best spot to catch a sunset is by far the Raven’s Nest.

❗️This spot has been removed from the park map because it is steep and there have been some incidents. So use extreme caution.

🌅 It is a little past Frazer Point Picnic Area where this is a tiny pull off parallel to the road on the left hand side. Cross and carefully walk out into the cliff.

Another great area (and safer) to watch the sunset is from Schoodic Point.

🌈 Have you ever seen a fogbow?

It’s a rainbow in the fog and is just beautiful to see. It’s foggy often in Acadia NP and we got the chance to see one.

📌 The best place to go tide pooling in Acadia NP is Schoodic Point.

Schoodic Point at low tide has incredible tide pools among the flat sheets of granite rock. It is so beautiful there.

Another great place to explore at low tide is the Frazer Picnic Area. There are tons of sea snails there to explore.

It’s National Dog Day! Do you RV with pets?

This is Oliver. He loves RV living, although he has never experienced any other lifestyle.🤣

What pets do you travel with?

The best place to watch waves crash on the Schoodic Peninsula of Acadia NP is Schoodic Point.

🌊 The massive granite rocks put on quite the show when the tide is rising.

💯 Rising tide is actually more spectacular than high tide.

🪨 Always keep a safe distance from the rocks edge. The waves are powerful and can knock you right off into the ocean.

❓Anyone else just love to sit and watch waves crash? We can’t get enough!
