We provide fruit options for our Little Tiny Tums numerous times a week. We always ensure we cut our grapes half way length wise!

Grapes provide a great source of fiber and vitamins, which makes it one of our staple fruits to incorporate into our dessert options for our Tiny Tums.

Today we’re talking about GRAPES! 🍇

It’s a well known fact that whole grapes are a dangerous choking hazard for babies, toddlers and young children!

The size and shape of grapes means that they can completely plug a child's airway. The tight seal produced by the grape's smooth surface makes them difficult to dislodge with standard first aid techniques.

Young children are particularly vulnerable to choking on a grape because:
• They don't have a full set of teeth and are still learning to chew properly.
• Their swallow reflex is still developing.
• Their airway is very small.

This handy image shows just how to slice them so that they are safe to eat - slice in half lengthways and ideally into quarters. NEVER in half widthways!

Same goes for sausages, olives, cherry tomatoes and large blueberries. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
