The latest is the updated tropical storm, Nicole, Heads up! As of 10am EST, Tropical Storm, Hurricane, and Storm Surge Watches have been issued for our area. Peak impacts are expected Wednesday and Thursday, but conditions will begin to deteriorate well ahead of the storm on Tuesday.
As the threat for impacts has increased, our Hurricane Threat & Impact Graphics have been updated. Those along areas of the Treasure Coast should prepare for the possibility of Cat 1 hurricane-force winds. You can find the most up to date graphics at http://weather.gov/mlb/hti
The latest forecast for Nicole has the storm at or near hurricane strength just offshore of the coast of Florida. Do not focus on the exact track, since it is expected to be a large storm with hazards extending well to the north of the center, outside of the cone.

As of Monday afternoon, Subtropical Storm Nicole was centered more than 400 miles east of the northwestern Bahamas.
Nicole was packing maximum sustained winds of 45 mph as it moved toward the northwest. Winds of 40 mph or higher were extending outward up to 275 miles from Nicole's center.
A subtropical storm is sort of a hybrid storm, meaning it has characteristics of both a typical low-pressure system and a tropical cyclone. However, unlike the typical low, a subtropical storm gets a lot of its energy from warm ocean water and has maximum sustained winds of at least 39 mph.
Subtropical storms are named in the same way as tropical storms, and both can become hurricanes if they generate winds of at least 74 mph. Nicole is the 14th named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season.

A hurricane watch was issued along the eastern coast of Florida on Monday as Subtropical Storm Nicole churned across the Atlantic and showed signs of further strengthening as it tracked toward the storm-weary state. AccuWeathermeteorologists expect this sprawling storm to take a turn and hit Florida’s east coast -- as a hurricane — later this week before it takes a run up the Eastern Seaboard.
On Monday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in anticipation of Nicole's arrival.
The Sunshine State faces long-duration impacts from pounding surf, strong winds and torrential rain, and as a result, AccuWeather forecasters have rated Nicole a 1 on the AccuWeather RealImpact™ Scale for Hurricanes. This scale takes into account the effects of storm surge, coastal erosion, flooding, wind and economic damage, while the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind scale accounts for wind intensity

Tropical Storm Nicole made landfall just before noon Wednesday on Great Abaco Island in the northwestern Bahamas, and now it's headed toward Florida where another landfall is expected Wednesday night as a Category 1 hurricane.
Nicole is the first November named storm to make landfall in the Bahamas in 15 years, according to the FOX Forecast Center. The previous was Noel, which made landfall as a tropical storm on Andros Island on Nov. 1, 2007. Prior to that, it was Category 1 Hurricane Michelle, which also made landfall on Andros Island on Nov. 5, 2001.

The bans were implemented after traffic came to a standstill during major snowstorms in 1967 and 1979. The city says the parking ban on "critical roadways" ensures that plows and salt trucks can quickly respond to winter storms.

VP Civil Engineer of Weather Operations and Supervisor of local reporters’ responsibilities are:
Oversee weather operations at a local level, initiate new executive weather projects, implement, and oversee field safety protocols for reporters including all weather events, not only during severe weather. During Hurricane Season, work together with Operations Manager, Todd Nardone, to produce and execute mainstream graphics. This includes, but is not limited to, verifying the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center messaging.
Customer service training is necessary through the Those meetings and conferences are free online and must be done on company time. Expect to attend at least one a month.
No timesheet is necessary with this promotion you are now a salaried TNW News, LLC, employee.
This position begins with four hours a week and three weekend hours, maximum.
Work hours increase during severe weather outbreaks and can be comped the following week as needed to balance out the position.
