Class of 2024 parents: It’s time!

Following our building assessments today and monitoring of the most recent weather forecast, we are making the decision to close all CPSB schools and facilities tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17. Some of our campuses are continuing to deal with power outages, and we are also encountering heating issues across the district, several of which are due to ongoing construction. In addition, with over half of our students riding our school buses or walking to school, tomorrow’s expected wind chill temperatures at the time of pick up, are again, a significant concern. We feel this decision is in the best interest of safety for all students, faculty, and staff. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter, as these decisions are never easy to make. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to our campuses on Thursday, January 18.

***January 16, 2:30 p.m. Update - All CPSB schools and facilities will be closed tomorrow, January 17.

We are still assessing our buildings and facilities following last night’s temperatures, and we are also checking into restoration times for our families who are experiencing power outages in the parish and for our schools currently without power. While we do not anticipate travel issues tomorrow morning, we want to be thorough in our facility and forecast assessment before making a decision regarding the status of school for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17. We will provide an update for our families regarding school tomorrow later this afternoon. We apologize for the delay, but it is important to us to ensure our facilities are safe for students, faculty, and staff. We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we will be in touch soon with additional details.

Due to the chance of freezing precipitation impacting roadway conditions, all Calcasieu Parish School Board schools and facilities will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 16. All sporting events are also cancelled for the day. With current forecasts not including precipitation after tomorrow, we do anticipate opening as normal on Wednesday, January 17. We will update families and employees on the status of school for Wednesday by noon tomorrow. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

130 seniors still have NOT taken their senior portraits for the yearbook. Wednesday, December 6th is the last day for you to take your pictures. They will be in the library from 11 am - 4 pm. 🚨 SENIOR PARENTS 🚨
Meeting for all 2024 Senior Parents this Thursday at 6pm in the Boys’ Gym.

Senior Parent Meeting Thursday, Nov 30 at 6pm in boys' gym.
They will discuss important dates and information regarding scholarships.

SHS is excited to participate in World Kindness Week (Sponsored by the Library, P7 Bible Club, Student Council, Beta, Interact, Ed Rising, JAG, LEAD, & African American Student Caucus)

Students are encouraged to participate in the dress days listed in the graphic.
There will also be daily challenges for students:

Monday- write appreciation notes after STEM lesson in Fuel or in other classes’ free time
Tuesday- kindness bingo (the students can pick this up in the library)
Wednesday- post something positive online
Thursday- search for kindness rocks around campus
Friday- tell someone why you are thankful that they are in your life.

All week- they can help make a kindness chain at lunches and also hunt for hidden turkeys around campus.
