VOYCE Project

VOYCE Project

VOYCE – Values and Opinions of Young Communities in Europe is an international project co-funded from Erasmus+ Programme.

Its goal is to put young people in the driver’s seat and give them the necessary tools to make a change in their societies. Young people are keen to take control of their lives and engage with and support others. Yet many face uncertainties about their future, as a result of technological change, demographic trends, discrimination, social exclusion, fake news and populism with yet unknown effects

What was the biggest of the project for you?

In our case, we are glad that we were able to show the existing possibilities for young people. Social Hackathon in Greece had a big impact on that - telling young people about + and its' differences in a simple way was the best takeaway.

From now on, participants know what's the difference between , and and how to use these and other programs to create the impact themselves.

Cheers to that!

On 13 December, as part of the European project "VOYCE - the values and opinions of young people in Europe" co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, non-formal education trainer Monika Sobanska from Active Women Association held an English-language online workshop for the international community "How to effectively plan and run a crowdfunding campaign for projects and ideas?". It was attended by 23 participants from the UK, Lithuania, Georgia, Turkey, Spain and Greece.

During the workshop, M.Sobanska shared her knowledge of crowdfunding, its principles, campaign planning and effective ways to increase the chances of successful fundraising.
The starting point was a completed crowdfunding campaign for the completion of the 2017 film , which served as an example and a so-called case study.

It is hoped that the knowledge and skills gained will help young people from across Europe to campaign and raise funds for worthwhile social projects, especially those developed as part of the 'VOYCE' project during the Social Hackathon in Greece.

⛑️ YOUTH AND WORK SAFETY

🔎 The NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) estimates about 70 youths died from work injuries in the United States every year and the injury rate for young workers under age 25 is approximately two times higher than for workers 25 years and older. 🇺🇸

📈 The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) reports a rise in yearly deaths at work in 12 EU countries, most notably in Italy (+285) and Spain (+45) where the incidence of mortality among young people is significant:

🇮🇹 According to the INAIL report, the number of young people and women who have died at work has almost doubled compared to a year ago: for the former, the number of deaths rose from 34 to 49, and for the latter even from 14 to 24.

🇪🇸 Statistics on accidents at work of the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy show an increase in accidents at work among young people: 88 young people under 40 died between January and June.

👆 The trade unions argue that these figures are not a consequence of increased economic activity after the coronavirus crisis but of a lack of investment in training and safety in the workplace.

Your voice is needed to say stop to these deaths and to demand decisive action to achieve zero deaths at work. Youths must work in safe places!

According to the European Institute for Gender Equality, young men and women in the EU have the same digital skills and access to the internet. Studies show that nine out of ten young women (92%) and men (93%) use the internet daily. This means that this generation, aged 15-24, is the most digitally literate in the EU. However, even if the chances of access are the same, the use of digital tools remains different. And confidence in service also differs. Indeed, young men are more confident in their digital skills than women. For example, 73% of young men aged 15-16 feel comfortable installing software themselves, compared to 49% of women.
The institute proposes ways of thinking about how to provide a safer space for young people. For example, to strengthen gender equality online. Offer digital education with a double objective: to increase the opportunities offered by digitalization and reduce the risks.

- 111,700 persons received refugee status,
- 63,000 were granted subsidiary protection status and
- 27,100 received humanitarian status.

A further 155,300 final decisions were made following an appeal, including:

- 14,000 granting subsidiary protection status and
- 24,900 granting humanitarian status.
Overall, EU countries granted protection to around 257,000 people in 2021.

📢Everybody in the European Union should be safe and free to be themselves📢
Recent research shows that even when greater social acceptance and support for equal rights is present, it has not always translated into clear improvements in LGBTIQ people’s lives. With an LGBTIQ equality strategy, the Commission addresses the inequalities and challenges affecting LGBTIQ people to move towards a Union of Equality.

This strategy follows a series of targeted actions across four pillars:
1. Tackling discrimination against LGBTIQ people;
2. Ensuring LGBTIQ people’s safety;
3. Building LGBTIQ inclusive societies;
4. Leading the call for LGBTIQ equality around the world.

Pride Month begins tomorrow, June 1! We are excited ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Why is June Pride Month❓

Pride Month is celebrated every June to pay tribute to LGBTQIA+ people who organized and actively resisted systemic discrimination based on their orientation and gender identity in the late 1960s.

On a June night in 1969, the LGBTQIA+ bar Stonewall Inn in the 🇺🇸 was the scene of another routine inspection of a "suspicious" establishment. Then a group of about 200 people, fed up with the unequal and degrading treatment, begins a protest that soon turns into a riot involving uniformed services. In the following days, several thousand people demonstrated in the streets. The protests of 1969 were the first such uprising in which non-heteronormative people stood up in solidarity against persecution and the first emancipation demands of LGBTQIA+ people were raised. It also gave rise to the tradition of equality marches.

On this occasion we would like to wish all LGBTQIA+ people safety, freedom, and the longed-for equality that you deserve! 🏳️‍🌈🫶

On the occasion of Pride Month, it is also worth taking a look at this year's ILGA-Europe ranking❗️

📍ILGA-Europe has been producing the Rainbow Map and Index since 2009, using them to illustrate the legal and political situation of LGBTQIA+ people in Europe.

The Rainbow Map and Index ranks 49 European countries on their legal and policy practices regarding LGBTI people, on a scale from 0 to 100%.

Where does your country rank? And what do you think needs to change in it for LGBTQIA+ to have a better life there? 🤔

May, fifth month of the Gregorian calendar. It was named after Maia, a Roman fertility goddess and spring—appropriate for the growth and increase we see in the month of May ☀️

However, the ancient times are long behind us...today our Mother Earth is getting poorer and no longer yields as much as it once did. Goddess Maya, where are you? 😓

Planet Earth is facing a dramatic decline in biodiversity, caused by unsustainable human activity 🥺

What is biodiversity? 🌍

Biodiversity refers to the variety of life on Earth as a whole - every plant, animal, insect and microbe that makes up the ecosystems on our planet. These species work together through complex interactions to create and sustain life.

According to a World Economic Forum (WEF) report, biodiversity loss is one of the most serious risks of the next decade. Already today, species extinction rates are tens/hundreds of times higher than the average of the last 10 million years! According to a World Wildlife Fund report, global wildlife populations have declined by an average of 68% in just over 4 decades. In addition, as many as 1 million plant and animal species are at risk of extinction within the next decades ❗️🙃

All of this poses a huge threat to humanity. The question is, what can we do about it❓

The governments of this world must immediately set long-term goals for halting the overexploitation of the environment. Take action to curb the effects of climate change and pollution, and understand the value chain and the interdependence of nature within it 🙌🏻

What is the role of young people in preventing disaster ⁉️

The young have a voice! They have the energy and power to act. It is on our side to educate our peers and society at large from the bottom up. Lobbying to local politicians, politicians in our national governments to finally be heard. We are the future of this world! Decision makers need to understand that if they don't act immediately, they will be taking away the future from us, our children and grandchildren in a few decades. However, we can prevent this from happening! Be the voice 🫶🗣

Europe Day - a celebration of peace and unity throughout Europe 🕊🫂

Every year on 9 May we celebrate Europe Day. It commemorates the anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration, in which Robert Schuman set out his vision of a new form of political cooperation in Europe that would make war between European nations unthinkable. The Schuman Plan is considered to be the seed of what is today the European Union.

We are proud to be European 💙, and you? 🇪🇺

The United Nations estimates that the availability of clean and safe drinking water could drop by as much as 40% over the next decade. By 2050, demand for water will have doubled and more than half of the world's population will be at risk of water scarcity.

Water is becoming scarce in places where it was previously abundant. Currently over 2 billion people in the world do not have access to clean drinking water, the problem affects 100 million inhabitants of Europe.
