WE ALL CARE. All the people there care, and not only those posted in political tarps on site. The cornerstone of "Binnadang" is that all of us care and value something so much that it unites us to achieve great feats. Caring transcends politics...it doesn't have any color--it is collaborative, it is cooperation, it doesn't hunger for individual credit. Kudos to all those who helped: all the officials from the different fence, the stakeholders, the community as a whole. We all should care...as members of one community.

PILANDO UPDATE: Benguet Leaders Continue Collaborative Efforts in Pilando Road Restoration

By Mia Magdalena Fokno

August 27, 2024–Efforts to restore connectivity at the road cut in Sitio Pilando, Gambang, Bakun remain in full swing as Benguet officials, government agencies, and the community push forward with both temporary and long-term solutions. This latest update highlights the ongoing coordination led by Vice Governor Ericson “Tagel” Felipe and Congressman Eric Yap, alongside crucial support from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and local stakeholders.

Temporary Access Road Nears Completion

Vice Governor Felipe, who has been directly involved in overseeing the construction of the temporary access road, reported that significant progress has been made. Following a meeting with DPWH District 2 officials earlier today, it was agreed that the agency would set up gabion retaining walls as a foundation while provincial equipment continues working on the road. According to Felipe, the access road is already halfway done and is expected to open as early as tonight or tomorrow morning.

“Thanks to the cooperation of DPWH and the teamwork on-site, we’re on track to provide this temporary access that will ease the burden on our farmers, students, and commuters,” Felipe said. He also took the opportunity to personally thank the Caticat and Vicente families, who allowed their land to be used for the temporary route. Felipe emphasized that the land would be returned to the families once the main road is fully restored.

DPWH Accelerates Restoration Work

Meanwhile, DPWH Cordillera continues its focused efforts on restoring the main road. In a statement this morning, DPWH reported ongoing work involving excavation, stockpiling of boulders, and the installation of gabion retaining walls. Informative signs have been set up, and traffic management is in place with the support of local police. This coordinated approach ensures that while restoration work continues, commuters remain informed and assisted.

Long-Term Infrastructure Plans Move Forward

Congressman Eric Yap provided an update on the long-term infrastructure plan following a meeting with national leaders, including Speaker Martin Romualdez and DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan. Yap confirmed that funding for the full restoration of the washed-out section has been secured, with work already underway. Additionally, Yap announced that the Pilando Bridge project, initially proposed as a cable-stayed bridge, will proceed next year with a more cost-efficient design that still meets durability and safety standards. This adjustment aims to accelerate the project’s completion while addressing the long-term needs of the area.

A Continued Unified Effort

The unified response from Benguet’s leaders reflects a strong commitment to both immediate relief and sustainable infrastructure development. Vice Governor Felipe, Congressman Yap, and the DPWH remain focused on ensuring that the needs of the affected communities are met swiftly and effectively. Both officials have urged the public to stay patient and cooperative as these efforts unfold.

“This is not the time for division or confusion. We must work together for Benguet,” Congressman Yap emphasized. Vice Governor Felipe echoed this sentiment, reminding residents that their patience and understanding are crucial as the province moves closer to resolving this crisis.

'MAY DRUG ADDICT TAYO NA PRESIDENTE'

In a heated speech during a prayer rally in Davao City on Sunday, former president Rodrigo Duterte called President Marcos a "drug addict" and claimed that his name was included in the list of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

The agency denounced this and said that Marcos was never on the watch list.

Duterte also warned Marcos that pursuing moves to change the Constitution could lead to his ouster, like what happened to his late dictator father. https://bityl.co/Nq4F
