Cayleen Creates
This page is a collection of learning and growth. I'd love to get to the point where I could illustrate children's stories (and like what I do ;) ).
Please join me on my journey! More detailed posts can be found on my blog, cayleencreates.com
Potatoes and Ladybugs this week
Blueberries:
The garden is my happy place. Working on some garden art...
Shovels:
For the last bit of December I created a Yeti for SVSlearn's monthly challenge.
Some gnomes came to visit while I felted this week. I tried out a bunch of colours, and ended up with a merry rainbow of gnomes.
Rocked it for Nanowrimo! I got a rough draft finished for my novel! Now we're into Christmas crafts, and I've been having fun with felting:

It's NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month! So I've been writing this month more than arting. But I've had fun with some NaNoWriMouses, a little mouse character I created as an incentive for writing this month. I post a black and white one on my blog in the morning, and a coloured one at night with my word count. Super simple, but it's been really effective.
Here are a few:
Inktober Week 5! Yahoo! Made it through Inktober! Prompts for this week were: Buddy, Hide, Music, Float, Shoes, Ominous, and Crawl.
Next month I have a little friend I created to help cheer me on through . Oh, man, so much fun!!!
Inktober Week 4. Trap, Dizzy, Rip, Chef, Dig, Sleep, Coral.
Inktober Week 3. The prompts were: Disgusting, Slippery, Dune, Armor, Outpost, Rocket, and Storm.
Inktober creations. The prompts were: Radio, Blade, Rodent, Fancy, Teeth, Throw and Hope.
This week was a little random. Kids are hitting the books hard this month, so no more wandering art days for a while. This also means I'm on teacher duty, and trying to find ways to carve out time for my own art and writing. My getting up at 5am goal was foiled by an adorable 3 year old who wanted to chat about Santa (see pic). But, we are entering Inktober, a cool challenge to use a set of prompts to inspire ink-like based art. So that's my goal this month. Here are a couple of pieces for the prompts, 'Fish' and 'Wisp'.

Nature Study Week. We went to different locations to study what we saw, then brought back sketches to paint in water colour.

This was our Perler Bead Week. I was a little doubtful at first that I could find some way to be 'Arty' with this, but my kids were super excited. Turns out, perler beads are pretty cool!

With kids back in school, 'my' art time has become 'our' art time. This week, we played with chalk:
Campfire cuddles. Nothing like snuggling up by a fire under the stars to feel at peace with the world.
Last daily sketch for a while. School starts for us today, so I need to teach my kids! I hope to keep creating and maybe post some pictures of our crafts together.

http://cayleencreates.com/2020/08/27/dog-play/
We actually didn't have a lot of rain on our recent camping trip! But I do have memories of the times we did...
Playing with rocks! Because kids have nothing else to do ;)

Dog + Roast
Sticky, gooey, messy....joy.

Dog + Bathe
Bath time! Kids sure become 'one' with the dirt on camp.
Dog + Relax
Kids have different ideas about what hammocks are used for...

Dog + Gaze
One of the most amazing sights you can see is the night sky while camping.
I didn't really do it justice, but the idea is there.
And those Pomeranians are stinkin' cute.

Camp treasures. # pugs
Dog + Hike. Hiking, with kids ;).

Dog + Tent. I decided it was time to start practicing simple backgrounds. I love the woods, so a camping series seems like the perfect opportunity!

Alpaca + Receive. Socks! Who doesn’t need more socks?!
Alpaca + Knit
Almost at the end of this fibre journey. So grateful for people that share their skills and talents with others
Alpaca + Spin
Spinning the fibres twists them together and gives them strength. The drop spindle is a pretty handy tool for twisting those fibres together!
Alpaca + Pull
Pre-drafting, pulling, fluffing. It seems to be called many different things. By pulling gently on the roll of fibre that came off of your card, the 'rolag', you fluff and even it out. Some people skip this completely, but, personally, it might be my favourite step of them all. It feels like you're playing with fluffy fibre clouds!

Alpaca + Card
When you card fibre, you brush it so all the little strands are laying in one direction to make it easier to spin.
I find the natural colours of alpaca fibre so beautiful.

Alpaca + Dry
Hanging washed fleece to dry. Alpacas have so many beautiful colours of fleece!
http://cayleencreates.com/2020/08/10/alpaca-dry/
Alpaca + Wash
Washing the fleece.
You don't want to agitate it too much, or it might felt.
Careful little one!

Alpaca + Skirt
Getting all the yucky bits off!
http://cayleencreates.com/2020/08/07/alpaca-skirt/
Alpaca + Shear
I've got a few adorable alpacas to share. So grateful for RichEarthYarns (https://www.facebook.com/richearth.yarns) for letting me come play with alpacas and beautiful fiber! Amazing people there!
With these five powers combined, we have...
Cheese!!!
Mouse + Taste
Final sense! Taste! Think they'll like it?
