POLICE CONSTABLE KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY
“It is with deep sorrow that we confirm the tragic death of one of our police officials, who was killed in the line of duty during a violent confrontation on Sunday, 22 September 2024,” said Captain Loraine Earle, police spokesperson. Earle said the incident occurred at about 17:00 in the Phahameng township area when the police were responding to a complaint. Earle explained what led to the police officer’s tragic death, she said: “During the incident, Constable Mojalefa Borolo (30) sustained fatal injuries and despite efforts to rescue his life by emergency medical services, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Responding to this incident, backup, including members from the Public Order Police Unit of Welkom arrived, and the three suspects locked themselves in the house and blocked all doors from inside. Police tactically entered the house and subsequently, three men were fatally wounded.” Acting Provincial Commissioner of the police in the Free State, Major General Solly Lesia extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen member. He said Constable Borolo's sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
