*Safe in Mandate* by Anna Grace Du Noyer| Link to audio: bit.ly/3j9HDWD |
Life, is looking up,
our pact looks promising.
Stabilised; The curve
is flattening.
Mortal interaction
Has comfortably collapsed.
Thank goodness
fatalities are down.
Fatalities are down!Progressing
from everyone,
per second
To most people,
per minute!
Love
is levelling with you.
Averaging out.
And settling
around below-none.
Our wide berth
Stirs no urge
To conceive.
Human being
Looms arrogantly
Above nothing.
Cowering. Scared.
Beneath verve
Matching balanced books
With the meaning of us.
Barely subjects;
Renounced.
And merely still.
With no fortune of fulfilment
Not indulgence in despair
There is nothing to see here.
Memories of substance
Simmer in the distance
But there's no harm done,
As no one ever touches.
Without a glimmer of danger,
Not chance that you could die,
You are safe now!
Protected, in this mandate
So feel glad, in life.
Alone.

*And the Rain Pours - by Anna Grace Du Noyer*
Right hand, labours on.
Burdened
by the clay of her body
A stubborn limb.
In tempered skin.
Still, her left
Passed in Spring.
Its gentle palm
Curls open.
Leaning into the
surly revolt of her body.
Summer swirled.
A haze of sun.
And delicate
forget-me-nots
Autumn threatens floods.
Swollen clouds loom overhead.
We brace for bitter winds
In the Winter of her life.
And the rain pours.
And the rivers carve a map.
And the days pass.
Searching the blur of her body.
A vulgar wristwatch throbs.
Pulsing past a beating heart.
Mocking mottled skin.
And the rain pours.
And strength settles into the seat.
A soft creak of leather
Warms the room.
Whispers of my presence
Saturate the cell walls
of her coma.
And the rain pours.
And unearths an infinite truth
A graceful dance. She flees
The wreckage of her broken body,
Expired lungs exhale all suffering.
A parting gift.
And the light guides.
And she sets sail.
And the light guides.
A compass tears through swollen skies.
And the rain pours.
And the floods rise.
And the banks burst.
And the rain pours.
And the rapids
Drag me into the gutter.

A poem about one of the many layers of . Thinking of my Mum who was on her journey away from Earth, three years ago.
We all know a ”faulty towers of eateries”. Poetry is not for everyone. Especially not when touted as ”trauma poetry”. I mean, how off-putting (I really should reconsider my PR strategy 😂).
But, in by book, Fear is a Liar, there are some dry and vaguely witty poems too.
Try ”The Village Italian”... which is traumatic, but only because of ”accidentally al dente courgettes”.
