Week One of Summer Hols ✅
.
Trying to cram everything in with two little ones feels impossible some days, but I wouldn't change it for the world.
.
Thing is they are only this age once. And it sounds so trite, and it's easy to brush aside, but every week that goes by Albie is getting bigger and taller, he doesn't want picking up and carrying, he reluctantly holds my hand in crowded spaces where once he would cling to it. His clothes are short on the ankle and midriff.
.
Wilf doesn't want to be left behind and so scarily quickly they are taking steps away from me that feel like they're coming far too quickly.
.
But even with this feeling, I still need time to be Rosie, and not just Mum. I acknowledge to love and enjoy my time with them, I need time away from them. I need time riding, thinking about things that aren't Do I have spare nappies, and are the water bottles full? I can spend time planning grids, working on canter leads, using my brain for something that fills me with excitement and challenges it.
.
I'm not able to be the best Mother I can be 24/7, so the morning Wilf has childcare means the afternoons we have the best time, because I've missed him and want to go pick him up for an extra tight squeeze...
.
The days Albert helps Josh working are the afternoons we make an effort to go swimming or to the park, the time we spend then is quality and it's lush ❤️
.
Everything in moderation, no one can be engaged all the time, so don't feel guilty when you announce at 6pm that you are off for a hack or arena hire and that you've got to Chapter 5 of Harry Potter so your partner can do bath and bed time.
.
Go be you and enjoy your horse for a bit, it makes you the best Mum ❤️🦄

Before children I rode Racehorses for a living. In fact, I worked all over in the racing industry, wanting to understand and work with the very upper levels of athletes, horses who are bred to be the ultimate flying machine. . Thoroughbreds are horses who inspire people to part with millions to buy them, trainers to lose sleep with stress but dream of glory running them, grooms to work for pittance to love & care for them, poets inspired to write odes about them, artists to create masterpieces to capture them.. the thoroughbred is almost a mythical creature, a horse that can be sold on a promise, a dream, the potential, for the same amount as a lottery win, but it's totally accepted if they never achieve that result and the wheel spins again as people keep chasing the ideal perfect racehorse. . They don't all achieve that result. Where there are champions, there are losers. Uno, though he managed to win a race, was never going to fulfil an ambition to win thousands on the world stage. . He was noticed however, not for his speed but for his wonderful personality and brain. He left racing because it would cost more to train him than he could ever win at his low level and he was such a gorgeous person the consensus was let him go & be someone's best mate. I am so grateful our paths crossed because he is the coolest little horse, he is far cleverer than me, and he's the ultimate athlete, in that he doesn't want rest days, he doesn't do pottering, he does adventure and learning and improving. He thrives on challenges and miles and brain training. . 📚🏇Uno had his first ever dressage test today, and though bodily he could have done fifty tests and not tired, after one little Intro B his little brain was working over time working out JUST what had happened and why he hadn't had to race, sprint or feel the burn. He was a total sweetheart from start to finish and I can't wait to take him out more. He came 5th with 66.7% and the moments he relaxed were MEGA and the m
💡📚Uno is going through his reception year of school and it is so flipping rewarding📚💡 . Little Uno arrived in late November, having raced and hacked all his life, he came from a friend who loved him dearly where she worked and kept telling me- Uno would ADORE to be busy and taught things.. and then with hunting and Christmas, as well various knocks in my health, all we have managed to mainly focus on is fitness as he had been off for nearly a year, then steering, then balancing up and down through the gears, as well as general suppleness and straightness. . Uno has LOVED every bit of having his brain used, and this week I finally managed to organise myself to give him his first day at big boys school! . As we know with our kids, from the minute they're born they're learning. They're taking everything in and they're soaking up so many things we don't even realise at the time! So when they arrive at Reception to start official "learning" it's already an amazing achievement to us that they're able to get themselves dressed, fed, take themselves to the toilet, and all with only being asked to do it five hundred times! 🤭 . That's what amazes me about horses too - when you meet a horse who has only ever been taught kindly. Who has had people in their life love them, and handle them properly and take the time to teach them, so they soak it all up, it really really shows. . Uno is SO lucky his amazing nature doesn't seem to ever have been taken advantage of or abused and because of this, he is SO KEEN to learn! 🥰 . He loves it, he thrives on it, and the best bit is when he makes mistakes, goes a bit green, or struggles to balance, he doesn't get worried or silly because he's been told off before... He shrugs his shoulders, comes round again and does his best to get it right! . Absolutely chuffed that on his 1st EVER attempt at schooling, his first time ever seeing poles let alone three in a row, he couldn't have been more delighted at the new game an
Our first date night out since Wilf came along.... . I can't bloody believe it!!! 😯🏇🥂 . What a turn around, for long term podcast listeners you probably won't believe that the miserable northerner who called all horses bastards and moneypits actually proposed tonight's idea and treated me to a sunset ride in Dorset's sunny hills on our two best unicorns. . Just to keep things real, I squirted Josh in the eye with fly spray before we left and Dezzie gave him a crack in the balls as we set off trotting enthusiastically.... Not sure if he'll suggest it again 🫣😇😂 . #childponysleeprepeat #firsttimeleavingbaby #firsttimebabysitter #9monthsold #coupleswhoride #learninganewskill #learningtoride #sunsettingsky #sunsethack #sunsethorse #dorsetlife #dorsetviews #podcasting #horseypodcast #horselover #horsereels #datenight #horserider #pferde #happy #discoverunder2k #explorepage
