I can hardly believe it! I've poured my heart into writing "Precious Rising: Embracing All That I Am," and something incredible has happened.
I've taken several steps to become comfortable with sharing my bold move of publishing my story. When I set out to write this book, I knew that sharing it with the world was essential to doing my heart's work.
Passions are meant to be shared in meaningful ways to uplift and support others along their journeys.
Recently, while sitting next to a complete stranger, the typical "what do you do" conversation arose. Instead of diving into my usual professional discourse, I happily exclaimed, "Oh, and there's something else—I'm an author."
In that moment, something remarkable occurred. The woman, Sarah, asked me to tell her about my book and if I had any copies. I proudly confirmed that I did in my car. We walked together to retrieve a copy, and I signed it for her. Sarah turned the book over, read the back, and smiled at me, saying, "We have more in common than you think."
It was then that I realized the importance of remembering my "why" and continuing to share the message that we are greater than our circumstances. What happened to us doesn't define us; it's what we choose to do about it that truly matters.
I'm incredibly grateful to find inspiration in my own story and to connect with kindred spirits like Sarah along the way. 📖💫

‘That’s triggering!’ Is therapy-speak changing the way we talk about ourselves? Terms like ‘triggered’, ‘toxic’ and ‘narcissist’ are now bandied about in daily conversations. Is this mere psychobabble or are they useful tools in a complicated world?

Sunday morning reflections: I am happy. Yesterday had to be the most full circle day I have experienced in life yet. First, I spoke with someone from my childhood that I reached out to while writing my book to help me think of ways to assist families who were dealing with traumatic events happening — she’s a licensed therapist — only for her to tell me, “Precious, you helped me.” We talked for hours about what writing my book would do for so many others. Then, I delivered 10 signed copies of my book to someone I have been working with for many years in the nonprofit sector. She has supported me throughout my journey beyond what she probably even knows. As we embraced before leaving she said, “I am so proud of you.” This act of supporting me will multiply in so many ways. Then, a friend reached out just for us to talk a little bit about how he is preparing to read my book. And to solidify it all God had me surrounded by my family as my aunt reached out to me with the biggest smile to ask, “How are your book sells going?” I smiled back and whispered to her that it was going great. I hardly ever want to cause a scene. I oftentimes quietly move in intentionality, but when God surrounds my obedience with His power that’s when I know that He is ALWAYS there with me even in the extremely difficult things. Today, I will begin to work on another project with my book. I could not go into this work without those moments. I am beyond grateful in this season. I am also prayerful that God will help us do important work to protect children from how hard life can be at times.

Living powerfully// God knows what you need whenever you need it. I stumbled across The Sonrise Project on YouTube today.
I’ve often empathized with parents that struggle with unimaginable things that happen in their families.
Sylvia High shares the concept of authoring our lives in a way that allows us to maintain our mental health and wellness in ways that will help us even when others might judge us (our families).
We have to learn to live an empowered life despite whatever is going on. I encourage you to take the time to tune in.

About boundaries 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽
Healthy boundaries are about are you, not other people. You can choose how you want to show up, but you cannot make (force or demand) that others be anything other than who they want to be. Essentially with boundaries, you are making requests of others that they have the choice to honor or not. On the bright side, healthy people tend to honor reasonable requests.
Controlling others, particularly when their behaviors have nothing to do with you, is not healthy. Just as you have expectations, other people can have expectations for themselves. Just as you are entitled to live your life, other people are entitled to live theirs.
Sometimes, what you want collides with what the other person wants. In these cases, you have choices: which need is healthy, can you compromise and if you can't resolve it on your own, see a therapist.
A healthy boundary sounds like:
I'm not drinking because I'm not feeling well.
Control sounds like this:
"Since I can't drink, you shouldn't drink either."
Boundaries are not ways to control other people.
I’ve been moderately quiet since my book launch and here’s why. I happened to already know that my work was not complete. So, I took the time to enjoy those around me.
While waiting for the next steps, I climbed Hanging Rock mountain with my cousins, took a family vacation to Charleston, SC while enjoying Holly beach, celebrated my friend’s housewarming and another friend’s 40th birthday, went to our family reunion and reunited with my youth group at a baseball game through my nonprofit efforts. I’d say that time was well spent.
Now, it’s time for me to get back in action on my writing journey. An author’s work is never truly finished. I would even summise that publishing a book is only the beginning to an even larger effort.
I want Precious Rising ( ) to help raise awareness about childhood sexual abuse prevention. Many times families become victim to being silenced, which is even more debilitating than the fact that a child’s body has been violated. Young people simply do not have the maturity or words to describe how trapped inside they might feel when unimaginable things happen to them. I am here to be a voice for the voiceless. I am honoring my nine year old self every time that I speak on this topic.
In the next six weeks, I’ll be working to release the hard cover version of my book. So, if you haven’t already purchased your copy or you happen to prefer it, you are in luck.

What if the only thing holding you back from where you want to be in life is refusing to go through trauma recovery?
Before writing my book, Precious Rising, I spoke to my mentor about what I wanted more than anything.
My very words were, “This time I am going to go all the way through it.”
At the time, those words may have seemed almost like I wanted to relive the very things I wished to have never experienced all over again.
Something was different about me.
We talked about perhaps needing to seek counseling and therapy and I said, “No, that’s not it.” I had already learned the tools that I needed by taking that route once before. Truthfully speaking, I did not exercise the things that I already knew.
Doing the work IS DIFFICULT. I kept reminding myself around the house that I CAN DO HARD THINGS. I even posted those words as a reminder around the house. I had to believe it.
I am still recovering, but I will tell you this. I am not afraid.

My book release party was by far one of the best days of my life. I cannot be happier surrounded by so much love and support from people from all areas of my life: childhood friends, old neighbors, college roommates, professional colleagues, and close family. I had just the right combination of people to share myself with completely. I have never really been too much of an open book, but whenever you write one…well, you become comfortable sharing more and more of yourself. I ditched my PowerPoint presentation to speak from the heart.
Thank you again to everyone who supported me from the very first day and those who will support me moving forward. Keep Rising!

I cannot explain how this feels. I’ve read a lot of books in my life AND I have read my own book more times than any book with exception of the Holy Bible (although I have yet to read it straight through). All this to say that there is no feeling in the world to know that I took time with myself. I have proof of doing the hard work to understand some of the most difficult things life threw at me in my childhood. I didn’t let those things—that I wish never happened to a single young person—stop me. I want that same motivation in life to catch on to as many others as possible. Here’s to the next chapter of my life…I will

Precious Rising explores intentional parenting in the midst of healing from childhood trauma. One of the most difficult practices I’ve had to learn was how to leave behind those things that I wished not to repeat in my family instead of carrying the burden of fear of generational cycles.

When I started writing Precious Rising, I found myself in a quiet enough space to come to terms with how I treated my inner child — at nine years old, I faced molestation multiple times by multiple people. Instead of remaining silent about this young girl who found the courage and strength to keep me going, I wanted to share with others how she prevailed. After I cried with her, consoled her and became one with her, I realized that my story was not unique when 1 in 10 young people have reported being sexually abused before reaching their eighteenth birthday.
Instead of remaining in a space of despair, I wrote exactly how I rose above some of the most difficult realities I faced in my childhood. My book will help families reveal, deal and heal from traumatic life events. We all have crises that will arise. How will you respond?

***BOOK REVIEW***When I wrote Precious Rising, I anticipated that I would have the chance to share more about the person behind the work that I do for young people and families on a daily basis. I figured that many people had not had the opportunity to know enough about my lived experiences and it became time to release more of myself. Somehow I had put those things that don't define me so far away from my memory bank that I actually lost touch with this nine-year-old girl who found the strength to persevere. I knew I had to share her with the world when I faced an opportunity to embrace everything about what has created the strong, ambitious woman that I am today. This book review from author Samuel Bellamy, Jr. gets at the heart of what reading this book is all about.

I’m already within the top 100 rankings and that’s a good sign that we can do it together.

Commentary: The pandemic is threatening our children’s ability to cope Leaders must mobilize to address the pandemic-induced youth mental health crisis as a new generation heads to college, and eventually, the workplace.
The National Institute of Mental Health (USA) defines childhood trauma as:
“The experience of an event by a child that is emotionally painful or distressful, which often results in lasting mental and physical effects.”
Childhood trauma can occur when a child witnesses or experiences overwhelming negative events in childhood. Many childhood experiences can overwhelm a child. These can occur in relationships such as with abuse, assault, neglect, violence, exploitation or bullying. This is known as interpersonal trauma – trauma that happens between people.
However, it doesn’t necessarily have to be an extreme situation like mentioned above to cause overwhelming experience for a child. When a parent/caregiver cannot meet the child’s emotional or physical needs it has the same adverse impact on child’s developing brain.
Childhood trauma can also be:
Having an Angry parent.
Having a parent who doesn’t validate your emotions.
Having to pretend to be something you aren’t in order to please others.
Taking care of a parent.
Not properly cared by a parent/caregiver.
Having to parent/raise your sibling(s).
Only received love when you performed well.
Not feeling safe or comfortable at home.
Having a parent who can’t emotionally regulate themselves.
Take care of yourself, because you Matter 🤍
Love,
Urfa
