Happy Juneteenth!

17/06/2023

Bridgewater's Juneteenth celebration is cancelled tomorrow due to inclement weather. 🥲 You have no idea how hard the Juneteenth Committee worked to prepare this event for Bridgewater. They met weekly for months and months to find sponsors, recruit vendors, find entertainment, organize the venue and create an amazing atmosphere for everyone in Bridgewater to celebrate Juneteenth. It's really devistating that we won't be able to see the result of all the committee's hard work and exerience their amazing community event. Please reach out to them and thank them for going above and beyond and let them know how awesome they are!!

The DPW Director also presented the annual water update to the Town Council this week and discussed the steps being taken and the expected timeline for improvements. In addition to the overview video below, it is worth watching the full meeting update on YouTube. Some key points:
- the new filtration plant is online and they also replaced media filters at the existing plant
- next step is to flush the distribution system pipes throughout town. that is happening now and will continue through the summer to remove the old residue from the pipes. residents are being notified of local flushing via the town website and may see temporary brown water while this happens, but it is a necessary step to clean the system
- system is planned to be fully flushed and filtering by the fall. that's when we should see improvements everywhere
- DPW Director encouraged any resident with feedback or questions to call him directly. He's eager to help and talk about all the things the Town has done in the past few years to address water issues.

PRESS RELEASE: Town of Bridgewater Launching 'Get To Know Your H2O' Informational Video Series on Municipal Water System

The town is launching a series of seven videos designed to help viewers understand the municipal water system and answer common questions.

The video series will launch Tuesday, May 23. One video will be released each Tuesday and Thursday on the Town of Bridgewater page.

The videos cover topics that include how water is distributed through town, how it is stored, what is naturally found in groundwater and natural discoloration, how and why water needs to be filtered and treated, and wells.

"We are excited to be launching this video series," Town Manager Dutton said. "There are a lot of moving parts to our town water system, and we hope that these videos will help town water users understand where their water comes from and the steps that go into ensuring it is safe and ready for use."

Congratulations to Mark, Suzi, and Paul on winning their Town Council seats! Good stuff is happening in Bridgewater!

23/04/2023

Thank you for voting YES on B-P!!! Question 1 passes!

22/04/2023

VOTE TODAY!
- Yes on Question 1
- Vote Cleonie and Eric for School Committee

** Here's a snippet about the vote **
The Annual Town Election will be held on Saturday, April 22, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Bridgewater Middle School on Mt. Prospect (the old High School).

Bridgewater is made up of nine precincts and three districts. Voter precinct information can be viewed via a map or street list here.

In addition to voting for local elected positions, Bridgewater voters will be asked whether to approve a Proposition 2 ½ debt exclusion to build the new Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School facility. A Proposition 2 ½ debt exclusion allows the town to increase its levy limit temporarily to pay for bonds related to a specified capital project and purchase.

Construction of a new school building was approved by voters in Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School’s sending communities — which include Bridgewater and six additional communities — in a referendum on March 5, 2022. Bridgewater voters approved the ballot question by almost 2-1.

The question will ask voters whether the Town of Bridgewater should be allowed to exempt from Proposition 2 ½ provisions to pay for the town’s allocated share of the project’s bond, which is approximately $1.2 million. The bond will fund demolition of the current Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School building, construction of a new building, and associated project costs.

A Town Project Tax Calculator has been made available to help residents determine the impact the project -- and anticipated future projects -- would have on their property tax bills. To use the calculator, residents may simply insert their assessed property value and click the “Calculate” button. Assessed property values can be found through the Assessors Online Database by inserting a street address.

Approval of the debt exclusion will allow the town to pay its share of the project by excluding the annual cost from the provisions of Proposition 2 ½. If voters do not approve the debt exclusion, the town will be required to pay the cost of the project through its general fund budget, which will have a significant impact on other municipal services.

Because the Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School project debt exclusion must be voted this year, the town deferred a planned debt exclusion for road repair work so that taxpayers would not be significantly affected by two debt exclusions.

The Town Election Warrant, to include the Proposition 2 ½ debt exclusion question, was approved by the Bridgewater Town Council at its March 7 meeting. The warrant can be viewed in full by clicking here.

Additional Annual Town Election information, including the Ballot Question and Candidates List, can be found on the town website.

Great things are happening! Let's keep it going with this weekend's election. I support:

- Vote YES on the BP funding. We already approved the project in a previous election...this just lets us fund it without having to do deep cuts to our town services.

- Vote Cleonie Mainvielle for School Committee for Bridgewater. She's done her research, cares about outcomes and will drive necessary improvements. We need her impact!

- Vote Eric Haikola for School Committee for Raynham. He'll be a great advocate for improvements and cares about outcomes too.

- Vote Suzi and Paul for the Town Council spots!

Thanks!!

Today we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

15/01/2023

This coming weekend, I'll be attending the statewide conference for Mass municipalities. In addition to networking on Bridgewater's behalf, I'm planning to attend these workshops:

1) The Path Forward on PFAS: Examining State and Local Approaches - I want to connect directly with pfas experts to get the facts and understand the solution paths available to Bridgewater

2) Using Public Communications to Build Community and Trust - we need to improve how we deliver and collect important information in Bridgewater. I'll be looking for tips from other communities.

3) Going, Going, Green! Municipal Aggregation and Clean Energy - I want to learn more about using our bulk purchasing power to stabilize resident power costs and provide cleaner power in Bridgewater.

**REPORT POT HOLES**

We're making progress on longer term roadway improvements - Cross St and Vernon St are prioritized for roadway reconstruction and a funding plan is in the works to present to voters to support those necessary improvements along with many other updates.

Until we get those improvements over the finish line, we will continue to have pot hole issues.

If you see a pot hole, please report it so the DPW can fix the issue. You can report pot holes online at:

Form Center • Bridgewater, MA • CivicEngage This form is to be used to report problems that Town operations need to address like potholes, road grading, etc. If this is an emergency, please dial 911. Anonymous submittals will be deleted. This form is not a place to report a crime or voice opinions.
