Amy Venn Art
Hi! My name is Amy and I make art. I am so glad to have you on this journey with me!
All my babies came home recently after spending a few weeks on show in the city. While I enjoyed having the space in my studio, it's honestly so nice to have them back! I missed them!
Now the task of finding them good loving homes begins. Do you know anyone that would like one of my artworks?
Feel free to tag them below!
Do you ever just look at the mundane and think, I could make this prettier?
I call it romancing the ordinary!
I got a new work dairy, and decided since half the office had red ones I needed to make mine special!
A few quick folk art style daisies and it just makes me so much happier to use!
TGIF to all those full time workers who have to earn a living to fund their hobbies!!!
As promised here are the 3 best cyanotype prints I made! The far right are the purple flowers from yesterday's post.
Things I learnt:
1. Definitely have glass to hold them down tightly! I used plastic and it wasn't firm enough, so my chunkier flowers didn't print well, hence why they aren't featured here!
2. Leaves, especially ferns make beautiful prints and lay nice and flat.
3. Perhaps drip dry. My flowers on the right here seem to have had water puddle on them but I did paper towel them before leaving them flat to dry. I will try standing them upright next time.
Obviously if I had made the cyanotype myself with chemicals instead of precoated paper I could play with the levels of colour, but what I can change next time is length of exposure to the sun to see if I can alter the intensity.
I don't think this will ever be my main form of artwork, but I really enjoy the process and the endless supply of botanical fun I can have. I really admire people who have made a career out of cyanotype artwork. It's so beautiful when executed by a professional!
Do you have any suggestions on what weird and wonderful art forms I should try?
Have you ever tried cyanotype prints? Do you know what they are?
Cyanotype printing is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. It involves treating a surface, typically paper or fabric, with a solution containing iron compounds. When this treated surface is exposed to sunlight, a chemical reaction occurs, resulting in a beautiful blue image. The areas that are exposed to light become blue, while the shaded areas, depending on translucency, stay white. This technique has been used for many years!
I had a play a few weeks ago, it's such a fun process. I cheated and bought some prepared paper, but that allowed me plenty of time to pick some beautiful blooms from my garden to use in the process. This is the before. I'll share the after in my next post!
I just love trying out different art techniques!
Good morning and happy Friday!
Here's a closer look at yesterday's reveal reel.
Not sure what to call this pretty thang, but you can probably see that I'm trying a bit of a more free and painterly style. I really enjoyed this process and the end result, and definitely see myself using these techniques in future!
What do you think?
Merry Christmas from us to you! π»
I hope you all have a beautiful Christmas whatever it is you're up to xx
Installed a bunch of my artworks today at our local community information centre! So chuffed with how they are looking all on display!
So my plan to share weekly kind of got derailed this fortnight, you'll see in the second last picture why!
That said, it was so worth it. Traveled to Brissy to see Paramore live, next level show! Saw my art bestie in real life, you're amazing, wish we lived closer. Then had my first twitch experience with the amazing girl I had so much fun with you!
Attempted black friday sales at the dfo, attempted my own cyber Monday sale on my website (deals are still on btw) and then plummeted into virus land. Who knows where it came from, airport, plane, concert, dfo shopping?
At least in my sick time I have been semi productive, definitely managed to get some fever induced manic painting done! Good times.
Not sure that next week will have much of an update, I'm just using this week to get over this illness and then it's bump in time for my artwork exhibition! That's come around so fast!
Hope you all have a fab week! Xx

So grateful to be able to say thank you to the 400 accounts that have chosen to follow this journey of mine!
Starting from scratch earlier this year I had no idea I would hit this milestone in the same year!
With just over a month left of this year, I'm so looking forward to what 2024 brings to my art practice!
Thank you for being here with me!
So last night I joined my pal on and we painted and talked s**t for several hours. It meant I got less than 4 hours sleep - writing this in the uber on the way to the airport, who doesn't love a red eye flight π« - but golly gosh did we have fun!
I did a quick and dirty botanical piece while Zobi worked (is still working?!) on some awesome Christmas decorations adorned with her hilarious subs names.
Such a good time!
10/10 would stream again. thanks for an awesome time, you da best ππ₯³π₯°
1 week to go!
Well hi there!
It's been a bit, and I've had some beautiful art lovers join this journey with me recently so I thought I'd say hi again!
I'm Amy, a mid 30s artist from Townsville FNQ βοΈ
I work mainly in acrylics painting botanicals, but am open to play with other mediums.
I paint for my soul and my health, and bringing art to others is a happy bonus of what I do.
I work full time to fund my art habit (this is pretty normal by the way! So if you're in the same boat please don't feel alone!) but I would love to be able to eventually go part time to focus on my art.
My favourite colour is yellow and I love cats. You'll often see my cat Gibbs here! I'm also a member of a fab artist community of like-minded women led by the amazing π
If you're new here, this is a safe and encouraging corner of the internet where I will always support you and I am so appreciative of you joining me here. Welcome π€
I'd love to hear from you if you're new, tell me about you too!
Happy Sunday! Who's painting today?
How it started versus how it's going!
I am really liking how this Waratah is developing!
I plan to finish this little guy tomorrow, then start on three 10x10 inch thick edge canvases.
I'm thinking for the next three I'll do a white gum blossom, a bunch of scarlet banksia and some bright orange grevillea.
I'm really enjoying the process of painting the finer details in these types of flowers, something about how whispy and delicate the flowers are just brings me joy. I'm quite heavy handed so it's nice to practice my whispy brush strokes. I picked up a filbert comb snapped brush to try while I was in Brisbane, hopefully it will help with my desire to be more light handed!
Stay tuned, I'll be sure to include updates on these new pieces, and share the finished Waratah with you!
Have you ever experienced the feeling of being in the creative flow? It's where the world around you narrows down to what you're working on right in front of you. Time and space ceases to exist for the moments that you are in your flow state. You are zoned into your most creative being, your creative soul. π«
This is the place I want to live in. That state of being where nothing else matters, rushing thoughts and physical feelings fade. Only you and your creation exist. You exist in perfect harmony with your creativity. It's chefs kiss amazing when you hit that sweet spot. π€
That's how I feel every time I pick up a brush for an extended painting session.
I am blessed when my creativity flows effortlessly and abundantly, and I'm grateful for every moment. π₯°
I believe that we all have the power to tap into our inner creativity and bring something beautiful into the world. You just need to be present, in the moment and listen to your inner being. Let her drive your creativity, let go and embrace the flow. β¨
Let's all take a chance on ourselves and see what we can create in our flow state ποΈ
My gorgeous art studio cactus, a mammillaria of some sort, has bloomed this morning!
This sweet baby came into my care some 1000km away from home, when my bestie took me to an amazing nursery near her home. To get this little cactus home meant a very long road trip together, but here we are!
Just wanted to share her because I think she's pretty special and a lovely reminder of my visit with my bestie β¨
Say it with me ladies! I trust myself! πͺ
When it comes to my art, I trust my instincts and follow my own path. π¨
Whether that's not following the "Instagram rules", or following them against others advice. It might be not changing my art as suggested by others, it might be changing it despite others suggesting it's perfect. It's simple! I do what I want because it feels right for ME! π
It's not always easy to go against the grain, but I know that my unique perspective is what sets me apart. π«Ά
I encourage you to do the same - trust your instincts and don't be afraid to take risks. Especially if someone is telling you that you can't! Prove π them π wrong! π
There's no right or wrong way to be creative, so let's embrace our individuality and see where it takes us ππ₯°π
So thankful for my very first collector! Bewitched by Waratah found her home in Mt Isa! Here is a picture of her in her new home. So fab!
Lots more native flowers are in the works, in preparation for my exhibition at our local community information centre
If you're from around Townsville and want to see my works in person feel free to jump on my mailing list for updates as we get closer to December. If that sounds like something you'd like, just comment "email" below and I'll DM you to set that up!
Wow! Thank you! It's crazy to me that in the last month another 100 of you beautiful humans have decided to share this corner of the internet with me. To stick around and watch my journey, my dorky reels, read my inspo posts, like and share my content. Thank you! THANK YOU! π₯°π
I've attached a snippet of the last month. It's been massive, first art sale, website is up, locked in a space to exhibit, like what!!??? Utter insanity to the Amy of 6 months ago who only had just started to get back into art! π€―
Here's to another great month! Should we do a giveaway at 500? π€
On this , let's dive deeper into the profound theme of worthiness. ππ It's a gentle reminder that every single one of us is inherently worthy of love, compassion, and support, just as we are. Life can be a rollercoaster, and there are moments when we doubt ourselves or question our place in the world. But today, we celebrate the truth that you are worthy, always.
It's perfectly okay not to be okay sometimes. We all have days when the weight of the world feels heavy, and that's when reaching out or checking in on a friend can be a lifeline. Your feelings are valid, your struggles are real, and your worthiness remains intact, no matter the challenges you face.
Remember, worthiness is not earned; it's an intrinsic part of being human. You deserve happiness, peace, and the chance for a brighter tomorrow. Sometimes, it takes courage to seek help or share your feelings, but that's a testament to your strength.
Let's use today to not only ask others, "Are you okay?" but also to ask ourselves, "Am I okay?" Self-care and self-compassion are vital steps on this journey of worthiness. Together, through open conversations and genuine connections, we can create a world where everyone feels valued and heard.
So, if you're reading this, know that you are worthy of love, kindness, and the support of a caring community. Let's embrace this truth, spread positivity, and make a difference, one meaningful conversation at a time. π€π¬
So looking forward to having this turn up on my doorstep this week! Come on Auspost, hurry up!
How exciting!! βTake a Breakβ has been SOLD to the lovely Amy and is making its way to North Queensland. Hope you enjoy your new piece of art Amy, you made my day and thank you heaps. ππππππ
β¨ The website has officially launched! β¨

I thought since you met Gibbs yesterday, I best introduce/reintroduce myself to you all! Hi! I'm Amy! I use too many exclamation marks and I'm an artist! βΌοΈ
My main medium is acrylics and I usually paint botanical works, sometimes a bit abstract, sometimes more realism. I dabble in other mediums but always come back to acrylics! π¨
When I'm not painting, you might find me gardening, playing videogames or having to attend the thing that funds my art habit... My day job π
I dream of being an artist full time eventually, ideally living in a forest, with an endless supply of coffee. π πΏ
In the meantime I hang out with my internet art pals, thanks for making that happen, as we all work towards our goals! π
Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments, tell me a fun fact about yourself!
