Recreating this picture but with a clean mirror this time 😂
The second picture is from my last big cut I did over a year and a half ago. I’m definitely not quite as lean as the first time, but this time around I’ve managed to maintain the majority of my strength which is the goal here. Under two weeks out now from the comp, time to make it happen.

Fixing this one thing will make your sumo deadlift explode.
These two lifts look pretty similar. In the first I am deadlifting 475lbs, while in the second I am deadlifting 545lbs. These two lifts were done on the same day in the same workout, but surprisingly, I found the second, heavier lift to be easier.
Why?
It all comes down to positioning and patience. It is a minor thing, but in my first lift I rushed in the initial portion of the lift, which led to my left knee caving in slightly. What this did was cause me to lose my balance and fall forward slightly, forcing me to have to waste energy to pull the bar back towards myself into a proper position. The key for a sumo deadlift is for your knees to form an almost 90 degree angle and be perpendicular with the floor.
Notice how the angle my chest makes with my center line is minimized when my knees are in a proper position. This is because with my knees correctly positioned, I am able to open my hips and wedge them directly under my center of gravity, resulting in an overall more upright position. Too many people perform a sumo deadlift by yanking the bar up with their lower backs, which entirely defeats the purpose of sumo. The point of a sumo deadlift, is to position yourself to allow a greater recruitment of the quad and glute muscles in the motion.
The technique required to effectively execute a sumo deadlift is far more complex than a conventional deadlift, and requires much more patience off of the break.

🚨PR ALERT🚨 192.5kg 2.9xBW
I’ve never come close to touching this weight before I started block training. Never thought I would be able to gain this much strength in such a short period of time. If you’re to reach a goal, you need a plan. Don’t waste your time. Train smarter, not harder.
