Last but not least, introducing our fourth artist showing this winter at The Shaftesbury Collective: Lucy Cooper.

Hello,
Iā€™m delighted to be opening my house again this year to show my silkscreen prints and to host Hattie, Alison and Rosieā€™s beautiful paintings, prints, cards, jewellery and ceramics.

My prints on display this year are all original limited edition screenprints handprinted on fine art paper - a printmaking process that I love and will therefore be very happy to talk about to anyone who may be interested! As those who have visited us previously will know, I tend to use strong colour palettes and I enjoy exploring uplifting and sometimes unexpected combinations of colour and pattern to reinterpret familiar sights. Iā€™m particularly excited to be showing some of my new work which I hope may transport visitors to the warmth and feel of the Mediterranean or to their own memories of sunny climes ā˜€ļø

Most of my prints on display are framed and therefore ready to take home and hang on your wall! But there are unframed prints available as well and Iā€™ll also be selling a wide range of greetings cards, as well as some earlier work at discounted prices.

Very much looking forward to welcoming visitors over the next three weekends. Come and drop by if you can - weā€™re just up the road from the Duke of Yorkā€™s Picturehouse.

the_shaftesbury_collection. Introducing our artistā€™s and makers.

Hi Iā€™m Alison and Iā€™m really looking forward to joining this talented group of artists and makers over the coming weekends.

Iā€™m a Henfield based designer/maker of contemporary precious metal jewellery, working mainly in Sterling silver and a range of the more unusual gemstones.

I have been making jewellery for over 12 years and love the endless creative possibilities that working with metal offers me.

The seashore is an ongoing source of inspiration, as is my background in art and design history with a particular love of early 20th century art movements. My jewellery pieces are all created with wearability and durability in mind and are hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office.

Hello, Iā€™m Rosie and Iā€™m so excited to join the Shaftesbury Collective Open House this winter.

I have always loved creating with clay, whether sculpting or throwing, and make as much time for it as possible. Since coming to Sussex nine years ago I have been inspired by its seascapes and skies, pebble beaches and murmurations, and I try to bring some of that natural beauty to my pots.

Each piece is intended for everyday use, and is designed to turn the day-to-day into a special moment. Iā€™m so excited to share them with you in our open house alongside beautiful work from:

Weā€™ll be open for the next three weekends: 25 and 26 November, 2nd and 3rd December, and 9th and 10th December, 11-5pm. Hope to see you there!

Introducing the Shaftesbury Collective makers and artists...

Hello, Iā€™m Hattie and am really looking forward to being in the Shaftesbury Collective Christmas Open House again. We loved meeting lots of you last Christmas ā€“ through the rain and snow! ā€“Ā Ā and are excited about sharing our work again.Ā

My training is in art history, but Iā€™ve always made a lot of art with my sons from when they were teeny tiny, and realised ā€“ thanks to them ā€“ just how much I enjoy making and creating. And so I kept going and here I am. My art is all about the joy and boldness of colour. I paint a made-up world of friendly but mischievous tigers and birds, and flouncy flowers. Iā€™m drawn to hot Indian colours, surface pattern, and am happy that people often say my art makes them smile. I paint with gouache because I absolutely love the feel of this paint and the strong colours it gives. My paintings are turned into limited edition giclee prints and greetings cards, and I will also have a few original paintings for sale in our open house.Ā

Delighted to have had a print selected for the Sussex Contemporary 2023. The theme of the open call was ā€˜Metamorphosisā€™ and I submitted this one-off screenprint ā€˜Connectionsā€™. I love how itā€™s further metamorphosed now that Iā€™ve added the selected artist badge!
The complete, non-logo version will be showing at the Brighton i360 from 7th-21st October, alongside a wide range of artworks by over 100 Sussex artists.

Iā€™ve been trying out slightly different colour combinations on this new, small format screenprint, with the intention of choosing one of them to take forward to create a larger format version. The question is: which one? šŸ¤”
I THINK Iā€™ve decided on my preference but would be interested in what you think. Let me know in the comments!

Iā€™ll be taking framed prints of this variable edition to in Teddington next weekend. They will also soon be available to buy through my website. Image size 10x10cm; framed size 25x25cm.

Lucy Cooper, , is a Brighton-based printmaker specialising in limited edition screen-prints. Lucyā€™s prints are characterised by uplifting colour palettes which evoke memories of much-loved places or moments of reflection. She explores interesting yet often unexpected combinations of colour and shape to reinterpret familiar sights in a semi-abstract style. Combining captured images with abstract elements and calligraphic influences, Lucy uses the screen-print process to develop colour and shape while still conveying the original sense of place.

Find her prints at in March at the new Paper Ink Print Festival!
