Clouded - a slightly surreal dreamscape. Bright clouds hovering over a darkening landscape.

Trees on the Hill - a slightly dreamlike atmosphere on a secluded hillside.

Colorful Skies - another sketch and color experiment. It’s been a while since I’ve done any studies, but took a hybrid approach with the style of contemporary artists Paul Evans and David Hockney.

Clouded Mountains - a minimalist sketch with a photo feel.

Nocturnal Gaze - Peak moonlight casting a spell. Pulling together some recent tweaks with technique for clouds, lighting and texture.

Clouded View - a tonalist, hilly landscape with dark clouds lingering above.

Mountain Peak - spontaneous and a little loose in style.

I was very excited to check my mail just now, and see this waiting for me. I recently backed a project from my friend Matthew Lamb and Hero Works Publishing for the comic The Legacy of Captain Bottle Works. The comic is set in my hometown of Johnstown, PA - also hometown of Steve Ditko (co-creator of Spider-Man) and Bottle Works where Matt is the creative director.

This is a proud geek moment for me. I was a comic book fan from an early age, and still remember going to the Altoona comic book conventions with Matt as a teenager. I remember both of us submitting comic art at the convention for a contest, and Matt walking away with a well-deserved top prize.

I *LOVE* the custom artwork that Matt did featuring my favorite comics as a kid - Alpha Flight (my #1 comic for many years), Ghost Rider, and Spider-Man.

Sunlit - light touching treetops as the night sky watches from above.

Autumn Feeling - a certain mood when fall colors begin to shift and change is happening.

Casting Moon - Moonlight casting and illuminating the cliffs and mountainous background in the distance

Dawn Rising - a cool fall morning, and crisp warming skies right after dawn

Hazy Fall Afternoon - capturing that fall mood and colors

Glimmer of Light - dark skies and landscape illuminated with a glimmer of light

Mountain Pass At Day - A night sunny day along the mountain pass

Sea Mist - a more abstract, tonal seascape

Solitude - Night falls in a remote, tranquil landscape

Moonlit Horizon - a painting that transformed mid creation. Curious blue-ish purple skies with moonlight bathing the mountains.

Luminous Skies - a fun color and light experiment. A mix of [digital] water/wash and some other techniques for a more semi-realistic atmosphere.

Radiant Sky - a lucid dreamscape that feels part dream and part hyper reality.

Blue Moon - Actually more blue skies and glowing shades of moonlight bursting through the clouds and remote mountain landscape.

Testing out some quick prints at home on canvas paper. While not as vivid as my professional prints it turned out well. Feeling like a kid again hanging on the fridge with a magnetic frame.

Ancient Cavern Light - old structures from a place forgotten by time. Daylight breaks through an unreachable entrance from above. A spontaneous creation; a beginning with no ending in mind.

Morning Glow - contrasting some tonal works with some more color and leaning impressionistic. The start of a bright day with sunlight shining through the woods.

Tonal Landscape - a tonalist experiment. Dominant yellow, browns and some red. This was initially a pre-sketch then with color added.

Sunrise in the Field - something Van Gogh-inspired. I have not focus on barns of rural scenes for a good stretch. Golden skies and sunlight giving warmth to the fields.

Reflective Moon - night skies reflected in calm waters

Surreal Lake - something dreamy, abstract and odd lighting. A dream forming and fading.

Majestic Mountains - Something slightly more photorealistic in nature. From imagination, conjuring Fiji and Yosemite.

Sunny Days - a dreamscape with sunlit fields. Originally more tonalist but turned bright and slightly surreal.
